Appearance:
Aedan is a tall male, slightly above average. He is Human in appearance, broad-shouldered with a muscular and athletic build, much thanks to a healthy childhood and the Galactic Alliance Air Force. Aedan’s facial symmetry is on point. He’s got a well-trimmed full beard, and rich, medium-short hair.
He has a small birthmark on the lower side of his left neck. There’s a scar on his stomach, as well as a similar but lighter one next to his left eye. The scars are from when he got chickenpox as a kid. His mom told him not to scratch. He totally scratched. Aedan also has a big scar on his left knee, from when he as a kid was crawling on all four and accidentally jammed it into a nail that was sticking out from the ground.
Traits and Abilities
Strengths and weaknesses:
Born pilot: Even as a kid Aedan has always been fascinating with all things flying. It was always his dream to become a starfighter pilot, and that’s a dream he made into a reality. Aedan never feels more confident than when he’s in the cockpit. He has grown into a natural and highly skilled pilot.
Psychometry: About one in a hundred Kiffar had the ability to read the memories of inanimate objects - including formerly animate objects like corpses - by touch, an ability known as psychometry. Aedan won the Kiffar lottery.
Kinetic Communication: Aedan is well versed in the sophisticated gestural language “spoken” by the Lorrdians. The Lorrdians use this to communicate with each other using subtle gestures, facial expressions and body postures. In order to understand the language, they developed the ability to read other people’s body language so precisely, they could determine a person’s mood and intentions from even the most subtle cues.
Self-destructive tendencies: Without much care for personal safety, Aedan will push himself and his ship in battle to the limits of what they can realistically do. This is a manifestation of a low sense of self regard, and can easily backfire and place him in extremely dangerous situations.
Needs his wings: Aedan excels in the air. While he has the basic army training and keeps in good shape, this is far from his area of expertise. Outside of his natural element he lacks the confidence he has in the cockpit, and will likely pursue flight over fight and try to get to his ship.
Trust issues: Aedan is slow to warm up to people, and struggles to feel a sense of belonging to social groups. His trust issues stems from his psychometric affinity, which allows him to see what really happened by touching an inanimate object. Lies have been discovered this way before. Aedan struggles to trust what he can’t see with his own eyes.
Languages: Galactic Basic, Kinetic Communication, “Droid speak”.
Personal skills
- Piloting. If it can fly, he knows how to fly it and will do so in style.
- Decent mechanic. Is by no means a top tier mechanic, but his solid understanding of most ships allows him to get by on his own without major problems.
- Army training. He’s handy with a blaster and familiar with melee combat.
- Great mimic. Is excellent at impersonating people and able to imitate a wide variety of mannerisms and voices (even those of many non-Humans).
- Wicked beatboxer.
Overall, Aedan is a nice and compassionate guy. He is not self-serving at the expense of others he cares for. He believes in what the Galactic Alliance stands for, and that the fight they’re fighting is important. While he respects the chain of command and authority figures, he’s not above the occasional white lie to get either himself or his buddies out of a pinch.
Aedan grew up with two siblings. They were always competing, even in the most inconsequential of things. He has become quite competitive himself, and is a sore loser. To his credit, when he does win he is a graceful winner. Aedan rarely judges other people for mistakes and acts understanding, but will be very harsh on himself for making the very same ones.
The first impression most might get from Aedan is that he is playful and carefree. He does like to joke around alot, and his sense of humour leans towards the dark side. Aedan is slow to warm up to people and struggles to feel like he’s really a part of groups. Often he will use humour as a shield to avoid making himself feel vulnerable and people getting to know the real him. He does struggle with loneliness, even in the company of others.
Despite being really good at reading body language and using his own to express exactly how he feels and what he means, he does have his awkward moments. Sometimes his mind drifts off on bizarre tangents based on what has been said, and he loses track of the conversation. Aedan is not good with small talk, and doesn’t always know what’s expected of him to say. As a result, he is likely to just blurt out whatever comes to mind to avoid those awkward silences.
Biography
Aedan Lochlan was born to his Kiffar father and Lorrdian mother. He has an older brother and a younger sister. They were all born and raised on Lorrd. The Lochlans have been a happy family, the children blessed with upstanding and loving parents. The siblings have always been very competitive and trying to one-up each other. Like all siblings they had their fights and quarrels (they really gave their parents a headache as children), but at the end of the day they’re all close. Aedan regularly keeps in touch with both brother and sister to this day.
It was said that Aedan inherited his mother’s smarts and his father’s athleticism. Through his father’s heritage he also inherited an affinity for psychometry, which manifests in some Kiffar. It would have been a bizarre experience without his father explaining how that sort of thing worked. Even with his father’s guidance, it was a bizarre thing to adjust to as his powers started developing. It naturally felt strange, but he did get better and better at it, able to control it more. This second sight allowed him to see things others could not. It also meant he could see through things others did not expect him to. The ability has certainly made him more cautious and distrusting towards people. People can deceive you, but inanimate objects cannot lie.
Ever since a young boy, Aedan has always been fascinated with the art of flying. To him, it truly is an artform of its own. His childhood dream was to become a starfighter pilot. Some, even most, outgrow their boyhood dreams, but not Aedan. He never shook off the fascination and did everything he could to make that dream a reality.
Naturally, he wanted to serve in the army - specifically the air force. When he became old enough to pursue that line of work, it turned out that he was quite good at it. Whether what made him good was that he was a born natural, or simply that his passion drove him to put in more hours is up for debate. When he got picked up by Rogue Squadron, it felt like everything he had dreamed of became true. This was what he was born to do, and now he was doing it with the best in the galaxy.
