Weaknesses
- Backwards Priorities (?) -In her own words, "I'm loyal to my medkit first, and to the Order second."
While she is both doctor and soldier, she considers her role as the former more important than the latter.
- Out-Spoken Humanitarian -
Doctor Terrani vehemently opposes the Orders' use of torture and forceful interrogation, and exucution of unarmed beings.
- Proclivity to Insubordination (minor) -
Her position allows her to oversee the interrogation of enemy combatants, and she is known to step in at times of excessive force and stop questioning. She is not even afraid to stand up to a Sith inquisitor, provided the right timing, environment, and rhetoric.
These are minor infractions for which she has not received a warning, for it is clear she is no traitor.
- Limited Combat Training (note: subject to change via RP) -
Though Doctor Terrani is part of the First Order's Navy, she has been quite insistent upon a position outside of combat, which she was granted. Thus, she does not have extensive military training. The little she had in her past she has not retained.
- Sidearm Upkeep -
Doctor Terrani usually will find her days overbooked with medical duties and emergencies, and rarely has time to care for her weapon (i.e. cleaning, reloading). It will more-than-likely cause a problem down the line, as jamming or dry-firing is imminent. ((Sidebar: Please scold her for it IC...))
- Nonvebal Tells -
Being a Lorrdian, she is adept at nonverbal communication, but she does not really know that she is (e.g. she does not understand it consciously; explained in 'Character Quirks').
However, she can be found to use it unwittingly from time to time, to the point the someone both close to her and perceptive might pick up certain tells that she has taken on related to kinetic communication. An incomplete list follows:
* Tapping her stylus on datapad = usually indicates a low survivability chance for the patient in-question
* Set jaw followed by a taunt swallow = biting back a comeback
* Looks up, then away (similar to eye rolling) = something important is on her mind, but she probably does not want talk about it currently
* Fluttering blinks = is very bored though the rest of her body may appear engaged, or defiant though appearing resigned
* Over-enunciating = tired, hungry, or drunk, and is overcompensating through her speech
Strengths
- Compassion -Likely both a strength and a weakness to the Order is Doctor Terrani's compassion and general commitment to saving her patients.
Her drive leads her to save many of the officers and stormtroopers that pass through her medbay. However, she feels the same benevolence towards wounded enemies.
- Versatility -
Doctor Terrani is a knowledgeable physician practicing both emergency and general medicine. This affords her the flexibility to work with either military casualties and prisoners of war or with Imperial civilians as the Order may require at any given time.
- Competency -
The doctor knows how to do her job and always carries out her duties to the best of her ability.
She performs well--some may even say better--with limited resources at her disposal.
- Steadfast Loyalty -
Do not misinterpret the doctor's various weaknesses as disloyalty to the Order. While she is not completely comfortable with the Order's excessive--in her opinion--use of terror, and torturous interrogation techniques, she is not a defector.
Along a similar line, Doctor Terrani serves all of her patients indiscriminately and shows an unwavering resolve to heal them. There is little that she will not do if it means saving them.
- Respectable -
Doctor Terrani may occasionally backtalk her colleagues and even her superiors, but she remains respected because she has continuously proved herself a miracle healer, an indispensable medical representative, and a loyal Imperial. This trait will often secure her "her way"; even if others don't agree, they generally trust her advice.
Personality
Sharp of wit, quick of tongue, and persuasive of personality
Ae'sona Terrani is exceedingly proud of her medical exploits, and devotes much of her life to them, to the point that she takes the death of a patient--whom may not even be hers--on her watch personally. Determined to save as many lives as possible, she pushes herself as well as her personal staff and other fleet practitioners to their limits. As demanding as she is, working under her is a far cry from unrewarding or miserable.
Her team boasts the highest recovery rates of the 6th Fleet and perhaps in the greater Order. She also is quite the hypocrite when it comes to assigning shifts to her subordinates, offering them plenty of time to care for themselves, and, though she can challenge them, she is not one to point fingers at anyone but herself. On the contrary, she is very supportive of her colleagues, and more-so of those she often works closely with.
The doctor has long known that her job is as much about politics and it is about practice. To win ground on the medical issues that matter to her, she wears her intelligence and reputation like a plate of Mandolorian steel. Her medbay's pretentious reputation affords her, the head doctor there, the unique opportunity to command some political power on the ship. She takes full advantage of this.
Her biggest personal priority is to secure better overall treatment for both the military and captured insurgents. Most officers may not see the importance of humanitarianism, especially for the latter group. However, as medical adjunct to Fleet Admiral Rausgeber, her suggestions carry a great deal of weight, weight that might command attention and/or consideration.
Similarly, as Cheif Wardroom Warrant Officer to the 6th Fleet, she outranks many other Naval doctors, and can order them to follow her treatment standards.
She rarely hides behind the flowery language that may be considered polite, and instead opts to for blunt but tactful rhetoric. Unafraid to speak her mind if it means giving truthful medical advice, Doctor Terrani has caused her fair share of upset on and off the fleet, but she believes that the changes she pushes for are a step forward in the Order's galactic struggle. She is also willing to admit she is wrong or to ask for help.
As for bedside manner, Doctor Terrani is warm, but professional, and enjoys making small-talk if her patient will have it. Whether in a medbay or on a makeshift table, she devotes the whole of her attention to any medical emergency no matter how small. For good reason, she is a favorite among wounded Stormtroopers and Imperial civilians: reputable and genial, what's not to like?
She can come off as a little cold or distant to prisoners of war, but that does not mean that she is any less committed to their care. She is aware that her protest of POW maltreatment causes some to think her an Alliance or rebel sympathizer. That is not so; she remains loyal to the First Order, but the treatment of a patient, regardless of his or her colors, trumps her subordination until they are healed.
In a more informal setting, Aes'ona is kind and fun-loving. The enemy that she has been in contact with thus far find her more than a little out of place in their stereotype of the First Order.
She does have a hard time unwinding and opening up completely, however, as she periodically forgets what it is like to not be an overworked doctor. Due to the hectic nature of her job, she spends must of her off-duty time sleeping, and then eating and showering. Theoretically, though, she would like to kindle a life outside of her medical degree, though she is so invested in her work that she couldn't imagine being elsewhere. Understandably, she secretly worries that she will not ever be able to develop a "normal life".
::CHARACTER QUIRKS::
- Doctor Terrani has nothing against medical droids, but does not prefer to use them in her own practice. She would rather have an Organic for an assistant.
- She plays both pazaak and dejarik while idle, to keep her mind active. Most of her idle time coincides with her transfers from one ship or station to another.
- Her favorite food is a medium-rare, well-seasoned Bantha tartare. Despite many attempts to teach herself, she remains unable to cook it, or anything, for herself.
- She does not drink for fear of addiction (and medical repercussions), though she is ironically a religious caf-drinker. Otherwise, she avidly drinks either plain or infused water.
- Also somewhat ironic is her personal legal will to allow natural death if she was ever to need advanced cardiac life support (aka, a DNR order).
- She keeps a single, potted bafforr tree on the desk in her office and makes sure that it is well-cared for. She says that caring for a plant is the first step to caring for a humanoid, because if you cannot keep the former alive you will not be able to save the latter.
- Her favorite flowers are, in order, Sficca, Lyris, and the endangered Tarisian rose. She likes a wide range of flowers, though, and is known to obtain them for her bedridden patients.
- Her medical nickname, "Doctor Tyranny", is used mostly by enemies of the First Order. One of her many functions is to oversee interrogations and treat prisoners, including injecting suggestive serums. Thus, she appears to be a passive, tyrannic enabler. However, she does not partake in actual torture.
- She has no idea she is Lorrdian; she has always assumed she is human, just like Taeir.
- She writes letters to him everyday and sends them via daily transports, because she feels guilty that she is too busy to visit and wants for it to see like a sincere gesture instead of an electronic afterthought over the HoloNet.
- On average, the doctor sleeps about 5 standard hours for every 32 waking ones.
- She has minor spacephobia; she is fine knowing she is in space as long as she cannot visually confirm that knowledge.
Story
(Bio & RP)
- Prologue: Bibliography -Aes'ona Terrani was born on Lorrd to a Lorrdian family in the city of Qatamer. At age seven, she was stolen from her home by First Order child recruiters and brought to the Training Base Zenith. Once there, she was assigned a training group and an overseer. With her new comrades, she underwent mandatory brainwashing, making her forget much of her past, formative years. Though she had a young mind that proved malleable enough to erase memories and plant loyalty, it was not receptive to artificial instincts.
For example, Aes'ona displayed an intense dislike of violence, a predisposition that likely resisted the Order's conditioning of her. In such, it became painfully obvious in two year's time that Aes'ona simply did not have the physicality nor mentality to become a Stormtrooper.
The question then became what was to be done with her. Her overseer advised Commandant Taeir Terrani to dispatch her, but he instead requisitioned Aes'ona's guardianship, vowing that he would find an appropriate posting for her. And so he would.
More than once on his rounds, Taeir witnessed Aes'ona reassemble some of the most complex hardware on the base without instruction on how to do so. In addition, his reports of various written tests would often show that she had scored highest.
With these instances in mind, Taeir saw great potential for some sort of technician or naval officer.
Following orders from his higher ups, Taeir submitted Aes'ona for one last memory wipe, during which she also received some general, placeholder memories. These allowed Taeir to write and memorize the story of her early childhood, molding her memory as he saw fit. He stayed as close to the truth as possible, establishing that he adopted her from an officer when he was going to put the child up for adoption.
He moved her into his home in Prosperia, Dosuun, under the primary care of R4-A7, his R-A7-model protocol droid, for about a year, until he hired a Nautolan nanny, Nileeta Forr.
At sixteen, she received her GED, after she had self-studied for nearly seven years. Directly afterwords, she traveled to Varunda IX to begin her schooling at New Habat University. Within the first term, she realized her interest in and affinity to medical studies, and began to pursue such an undergraduate degree.
Over the next 4 years, she obtained her premed. She then moved to Byblos to attend the Academy of Medicine there for her doctorate. Finally, she completed an 8-year combined emergency care and general practice residency at FMIS Mountbatten.
All this time--these 12 years--her adoptive father continued to serve the Order on her old base, meaning that Aes'ona was given a wide degree of freedom. Still, her loyalty in the Order did not waive. She did develop freedom of thought, became something of a critic to the government, and grew into much more of an individual as her eight-year-old self was, but she enthusiastically signed up for the Naval Medical Service Corps upon the completion of her residency.
For about two months, she took a medical officer training course.
Upon completion, she was given a position on Mountbatten in the recently-built hospital group known as Sanctity Physic Dormitories. SPD is, like the other groups on the medstation, a regional hospital serving both the First Order military and the greater public.
Almost immediately, she began putting together her own band of specialized doctors, which she called the Alacrity Clinic Group. In her first few months in the military, her good friend Dermin Brayaa, a talented physical therapist, was the only other member. Since then, it has steadily grown into a band of practitioners spanning a range of medical specialties. Alacrity accounts for only part of the SPD's staff, but acts as the group's medical board. Aes'ona became director to them both.
Around the same time, she also became a medical consultant to Commander Hersh Thaxton, semi-regularly holo-conferencing with him on related matters.
