As the Galactic Alliance expands its reach over the galaxy, its military capabilities must also adapt to the threats it exposes itself to. Drawn-out wars of attrition and heavy sieges can drain resources, making wars expensive. The shroud was created to make warfare easier for the GADF since it essentially turned tanks into spies. Vehicles that could easily pass as a tree off the road could be inserted deep into enemy lines stalking enemy troops as scouts reported back to command. Urban warfare can turn costly for the enemy when debris and crashed road vehicles ambush patrols in a sector presumed clear. The technology had been in development for years as the shroud had to work in as many environments as possible. The shroud was field-tested on various chassis in worlds with differing climates before AIL could produce more. The schematics of the device remain a closely guarded secret amongst the team who worked on the device and is locked behind a high-security clearance with many of the design details classified to prevent espionage.
- This is a one-of-a-kind technology designed to scan mundane objects around the craft's environment, creating a camouflage field around the craft to resemble objects in its vicinity.
- Photoreactive fibers are also part of the shroud. The fibers' purpose is light absorption. This allows the craft in its camouflaged state to blend in with its surroundings so it doesn't stick out like a cheap holoprojection.
- An optical camouflage system is inserted in the scanner to optimize its camouflage capabilities. The system generates the object the craft is looking to disguise itself in its software while using sound dampeners on the craft's internal systems.
- The holoprojector is how the craft presents its disguise. But with the help of the shroud's other components, it can present a hyperealistic image of what the craft is attempting to disguise itself as.
- An environmental scanner is needed to provide readings that are fed to the shroud's other systems to generate an image that fits in with its surroundings. For example, if the craft wanted to disguise itself as a boulder in the rain, the shroud needs to know the weather, time, vapor content, and other atmospheric readings. This will determine the correct coloration, lighting, and imaging for the vehicle to blend in.
- In some situations, a vehicle might not have an object in its vicinity to disguise itself. Therefore the the shroud also has a standard cloaking device which is kept as a backup to the camouflage system.
- Nothing but trees - A craft equipped with the Heavy Camouflage Matrix will blend into the background well, whether it be trees, structural debris, rocks, or even other vehicles. Working in tandem with a sound dampener and sensor-avoidant material.
- Not your average camo - What separates the shroud from other cloaking and camouflage systems is that it works more like a disguise making it ideal for infiltration and sabotage.
- Why is that tree moving? - The shroud requires full power. If a craft accelerates or uses its weapons system, it will automatically deactivate and can't be used again until all other systems aren't in use.
- What do you mean I'm not a tree? - If the shroud takes a direct hit with a hard enough projectile it will be inoperable until it can be repaired. Additionally, if the shroud were to take EMP damage, it would shut down for a certain amount of time depending on the damage output. It would be ideal if the shroud wasn't exposed to any sort of damage to remain fully operational.
