Airak is a Zabrak. During his teenager years, Airak never liked the independence of the Zabrak people about politics. All people had their side, Airak felt like he sould pick a side too.

One day, he decided that he was going to join the Galactic Alliance. It wasn't a difficult decision. His parents didn't quite like it, but they respected it. He served as a military from the Galactic for a few years. Airak travelled, fulfilled missions, served his time. He stayed in this life for almost six years. Never grew too much in rank. He wasn't so ambicious and he hated to be in command. This lack of ambition made the Zabrak question his own decision. Was the Galactic Alliance the right place? Did he make the wrong decision? Is the fate of all Zabrak to live a life of independence?

A few weeks later, Airak Ar'dai decide to get away from the Alliance. At least for some time. The Zabrak went home, stayed with his family during some time and then decided that was time to explore the world again. He thought of working as a Bounty Hunter, but that wasn't for him. So he chose the way of the Smugglers. He made some contacts, got some merchandise and started the work.

In this trips as a Smuggler, as a person who wasn't serving one of the political sides, but was just a civillian, the Zabrak could experiment the world from some more neutral point of view. And what he saw confirmed his first decision. Airak saw how the Empire act in a lot of colonies. Airak saw exploitation, repression and misery. He himself was repressed more than once for trying to defend some civilians. In one of this fields, Airak was selling merchandise in a poor village. Nothing to expensive, just tools that helped in the daily work. It was one of those days
that the Empire showed up. He didn't know which Empire faction were, and didn't care, they were all the same. The soldiers saw the merchandise and confiscated it all. Not just the merchandise from the Smugglers, but the products that the workers had bought. No refund. And they also took some tools that the workers had for a long time, bought from honest sources. It didn't matter.

This day Airak abandoned the life as a Smuggler. It was impossible to live a life and not pick a side in this conflict. He couldn't "work" in such a miserable job and close his eyes to the misery, exploitation and cowardness of the world. He thought that he wasn't comitted to the Alliance, but in that moment he saw that he was deeply comitted. He missed the Alliance, the feeling of helping, of doing something that was worthy. The friends and fellow soldiers were not just "work colleagues", they were like family. And the service in the Alliance wasn't just a job, it was also a purpose. Airak then took a decision, something that he usually has difficult with: no more to be a Smuggler, and no more to abandon the Alliance. He would get back to his old job and serve the Republic until the end of his days.
