In their career as a slicer, akkd0g_ has targetted criminal, government, and corporate institutions alike. While they performed these attacks as an agent of the Collective - a former shadow organization that used intrigue and espionage to control world governments and further their agenda - at the peak of their career, they have since returned to their roots as a freelance slicer paid by the run. For this, they are known to several bounty hunter guilds, holonet watchdog institutions, and government cybercrime and intelligence agencies. While their charges vary from government to government, they largely pertain to cybercrime, espionage, and coercion. While they are fortunate enough to not currently be identified, every job they run presents the risk of their signature being picked up by the right institution, the run being thwarted, and even them being caught. They were identified by select intelligence agencies during the collapse of the Collective, but some years in hiding, prolonged efforts scrubbing their identities, and many favours exchanged have culminated in their anonymity being restored.
Biography
Born in the underlevels of Nar Shaddaa, Sola was raised in captivity after she was orphaned by the same criminal disputes common on the planet. Her earliest memories involve being sold between and working as an "indentured servant" in exchange for her living and upbringing costs being covered by her master of the time. While her childhood was spent mostly cleaning, fetching, and delivering messages by paths too small or too exposed for most adults to traverse safely, once she had "worked off" the cost of her upbringing, her masters provided education at cost to extend the length of her servitude. This was a common practice and allowed for slave owners to retain their slaves well into their adulthood, if not for their entire lives. In this instance, this master's particular criminal institution required slicers, so a freelance slicer was hired to train Sola at the cost of her freedom.
Sola's training, which functioned more like weekly tutoring in computing fundamentals for some time, eventually turned into more of an apprenticeship as her aptitude for computer science became more obvious. Her master of the time, albeit reluctantly, allowed her time commitment to this apprenticeship to become full time on the promise of servant duties in the evenings and her skills eventually being used for his institution's gain. In truth, Sola had seen the potential for these skills to help her escape and committed herself to these studies for want of hope. With her skills, both learned from her mentor and self-taught from information in the holonet, Sola built and programmed the first iteration of her droid exoskeleton and omnireality headset from the husks of scrapped droids and eventually, shortly before her "graduation" as a young adult, achieved her dream. Late one evening, well after her skills had been put to work by her master, she compromised the hideout's network, updated the friend-or-foe identification protocols of the security droids and turrets to target all organic lifeforms except the other slaves, unlocked the cells containing the other slaves, then escaped through a ceiling window using her exoskeleton. During her escape, she was caught by the gang's slicer who, after taking her by the throat with both hands and strangling her to the cusp of consciousness, had his head flattened between two of the four droid arms of her exoskeleton.
Since her escape, Sola adopted the moniker of "akkd0g_", the primary holonet alias that she trades her services as a fully-fledged freelance slicer under. Her droid exoskeleton, once a cobbled together means to escape, has since become something of her guardian angel and closest confidant, with countless upgrades performed on it since.
Strengths & Weaknesses
Ace slicer | Frail constitution |
A lifetime working as a slicer for institutions ranging from petty gangs to shadow governments has allowed Sola to grow into an ace slicer: an expert in manipulating and breaking data and computer systems for her own often illicit gain. To supplement her skills, her toolkit is diverse and comprehensive, ranging from purpose-made programs to the omni-reality headset which almost always obscures her face. This headset allows her droid exoskeletal companion to warn her of threats and display relevant information in real time - essentially providing a complex heads-up display - while also allowing her to slice on the fly should her work require her to take to the field. | Adolescence spent living in squalor as a slave in the lower levels of Nar Shaddaa created several health conditions and concerns for Sola, some of which developed into permanent or ongoing conditions which impact her today. For example, as a result of her sparse diet of the time, Sola struggles to maintain a healthy weight or build. In turn, any sort of physical trauma would be much more severe for Sola than it would be for the average layperson. Likewise, she doesn't have the strength to complete many tasks - such as lifting, running, fighting, and even standing - unassisted, for which she relies on her exoskeleton for help. Furthermore, Sola's skin and eyes have grown in the gloomy, dim conditions of the Nar Shaddaa lower levels. Bright light and sunlight which would be normal for a layperson severely affect Sola, resulting in effects such as severe sunburns, heat exhaustion, and disorientation. |
Exoskeletal companion | Bit dependent |
Sola's closest confidant and life-long ally is her droid companion, 4-RM, which takes the form of an exoskeleton equipped with four droid arms sprouting from her back. Perceiving the world and the holonet through several lenses and sensors and integrated with Sola through her omni-reality headset and her cybernetics, the droid protects and relies on Sola in equal measure, the same as Sola does for the droid. The droid is equipped with machine learning algorithms and pre-programmed routines which allow it to handle weapons, interface with devices, operate machinery, and even scale and navigate buildings and difficult terrain should the situation call for it. | Without access to the holonet or computer systems, Sola has few, if any, skills with which to trade or use to survive. Furthermore, Sola is almost entirely dependent on 4-RM to complete most physical tasks, including even standing for more than an hour or so at a time. Likewise, as a unique droid with a nuanced personality and very close integration, 4-RM is entirely dependent on Sola for maintenance and care. While the two together are perhaps a force unto themselves, one without the other have incredibly limited application. For example, while 4-RM has been hardened against EMP as far as a droid of the size can and has the means to recover from it, it simply isn't enough. When impacted by an EMP, Sola quickly becomes imprisoned by the dead weight of the droid, which is hard-wired to servo-lock until recovery in an attempt not to crush her. Likewise, modern chaff countermeasures can temporarily disorient and overwhelm 4-RM. |
Inventory
Perhaps the most significant components of Sola's possessions are her omnireality headset and her cybernetics. The omnireality headset, built from several devices much like 4-RM, is a headset that is capable of providing both augmented reality features, which is particularly useful to Sola for quick-slicing and monitoring for threats and points of interest, and virtual reality, which Sola normally uses when entirely focusing on slicing or for recreation. At a minimum, the headset adjusts light levels to healthy levels for Sola's eyes, which are used to the gloom of the Nar Shaddaa lower levels. Through her cybernetics, the headset is also capable of accepting thoughts and blinks as input. Sola's cybernetics are almost exclusively related to integration with computer equipment and data. Steel and ports spread well across her body, which integrate with 4-RM, her omnireality headset, and can even be plugged directly into computers to interface with them. Other cybernetics and 4-RM can process this information and feed it to the omnireality headset for input and display. Furthermore, as part of her service to the Collective, Sola has a small non-volatile hard drive integrated into her cybernetics which is capable of storing data that Sola may or may not be aware of. While this was originally used for storing classified data without Sola necessarily having to know it and as a backup in case Sola went rogue, she has since sliced and reclaimed the drive for her own use.
Sola travels the galaxy in a B-7 light freighter, which is currently registered as the property of Chikoob Tanwa - a Rodian freighter pilot who largely transports industrial equipment and computers, but also fruits and grains. Naturally, this identity is fraudulent and is used in conjunction with the low profile of the unassuming freighter to avoid suspicion. It is equipped almost entirely as stock, including the laser cannon, but has had its radar and detection capabilities extended. The freighter was stolen during the collapse of the Collective from a freighter's rest station in the galactic northeast as part of Sola's escape and has had its registration tampered with and even deleted several times since. Most of the cargo space is occupied with computer systems and technical equipment, which Sola uses to maintain her equipment, store data, and coordinate cyberattacks.
In her personal armory, Sola maintains one blaster sniper rifle, two heavy blaster pistols, two vibrodaggers, and a hold-out blaster. While Sola's skills at arms are rather poor, 4-RM is equipped with programmed routines which allow it to operate to the weapons. 4-RM typically stores the heavy blaster pistols and vibro-daggers in the crook of Sola's back for use as required. Likewise, Sola often holds the blaster sniper rifle herself when it is necessary in order to brace it, but 4-RM assists her in aiming and calculates the ideal shot trajectory through the exoskeletal components on her arms. Sola stores the hold-out blaster separately on her person in case 4-RM is impacted by EMP, chaff, or some other measure of countermeasure or failure. In addition to a reliable assortment of casual and comfortable clothing, Sola owns weaved armour with some integrated plates for the unfortunate occasions where she must take to the field. This particular apparel is modified with accounting for wearing 4-RM and her own cybernetics and is usually worn with pouches as required.
