Description: The Malleus-class Light Star Destroyer is one of the longest serving designs in the Protectorate Navy. While it has served faithfully, its armament and performance have not been up to par with the latest Protectorate ships. As the economic situation stabilized, starship designs drafted, and shipyards gained experience, more and more powerful ships came off the assembly line. Eventually, the Malleus began to fall behind.

However, rather that put the ships to mothballs, a bold project was undertaken. Encouraged by the success of the Telum Mk II and Incus projects, retrofit planning was done to fully modernize the Malleus and take advantage of the experience and material wealth of the Protectorate. Super-structure was added to the forward half of the ship, adding some overall length to the ship. The bridge was actually moved towards the front of the ship as well, an unconventional design, but one that reflected the ship's new namesake.

In honor of her service to the Protectorate in a chaotic time and as a testament to her unflinching resolve, the Malleus-class Star Destroyer line was rechristened the Alcori-class Light Star Defender, in honor of former Protector @[member="Tegaea Alcori"]. The new design incorporates the same dangerous long-range turbolaser cannons that the new Warden-class does, but does so without sacrificing the ship's ability to handle diverse combat situations, both large and small. Two mini-hangers were attached in pods on either side of the forward section of the ship, giving it its own fighter escorts for the first time.

The Alcori-class is designed to be a long-serving and stalwart defender of the Protectorate for years to come.

Okay, this thing has a lot of guns and there are a lot of numbers being played with, so I'm approving this, but I'm going to add some of my reasoning for why to failsafe anyone making too many complaints about it.

This ship is 130 turbolasers under the "light Star Destroyer" heavy gun config limit. 130 turbos should "pay" for just about anything. Assuming even a 2:1 trade off of laser cannons to turbolasers (which is a very generous assumption in favor of cannons), this leaves the Malleus with another 30 turbos that it doesn't have. It's under firepower for a light Star Destroyer no matter what equivalencies you take to it.

1 turbolaser > 2 laser cannons
50 quadlasers = 200 laser cannons
100 turbolasers > 200 laser cannons
Remainder of 30 turbolasers ~ 65 dual ions

This ship is approved, after far too much math for my liking.

EDIT: And now after I look back at the LSD loadout, I see it comes with 50 quadlasers...so all of my math served no purpose, because a turbolaser is infinitely more valuable than an ion cannon. 130 turbos > 130 ions, and I've wasted my time. Decision stands.
