- Mandurah Harbour - Mandurah Harbour is the capital of Alexandria, and the Commonwealth. It is situated along the southern hemisphere located around a naturally forming harbour along the southern side of the continent. While the waters are now primarily used for commercial fishing, the old docks have been transformed into spaceports to ferry civilians and military personnel from Mandurah Harbour to Port Ulladulla or Port of Eden. Although it is rare for these spaceports to accept inter-system vessels, it has been known to occur for smaller freighters.
Due to restrictions on airspace over many continents of Alexandria, Alexandrians travel by grounded vehicles. As such personnel vehicles are restricted from entering Mandurah Harbour to prevent traffic congestion, thus solely relying on a deeply complex network of public transport. Hundreds of trams make their rounds throughout the city, while intricate bullet train systems allow distant farming colonies across the planet to access Mandurah Harbour in a matter of minutes.
Military vehicles are exempt from these restrictions, and with such an intense presence of military personnel across the Commonwealth, military personnel are still a frequent sight. Whether it is from their transport carriers ferrying troops from training academies to outposts and bases in and out of Mandurah Harbour, or a commander flying their airspeeder through the city.
Culture:
- Daily Life - The military of the Commonwealth is all encompassing in the day to day life of Alexandrians. Whether it is the propaganda posters plastered on every wall that inspire the everyday man and woman to defend their nations borders, the frequent military parades, or the recruitment centers on every street block. Every person is expected to play their part in the military of the Commonwealth, whether it is the communications officer sitting in a station on the edge of the system, or the workforce on Alexandria pumping out shells and slugs in factories.
- Society - The people of Alexandria view military service as the epitome of life accomplishments. It was more duty than service. While outsiders may feel peer-pressured into the military, Alexandrians have known this lifestyle their entire lives and feel it is relatively normal. Due to the Commonwealths history with past wars that almost had the Cadi System wiped from the galaxy, those who do not spend at least one term in the military are viewed with disfavor among communities across Alexandria.
- Government - Alexandria is governed by the military, after overthrowing the former monarchy that had ruled for thousands of years. Although the military governs Alexandria, feudal titles have not been forsaken. They're commonly granted to high-ranking commanders, and with the titles come the responsibility of managing their planets, states or cities. Those who have the final say are a board of three military commanders making up the navy, army and intelligence divisions.
- Sports - Globally across Alexandria and Commonwealth-governed planets within the system, shockboxing is a tremendously watched and celebrated sport, albeit it was known as Naval Combat Boxing by Alexandrians of the Commonwealth. The sport is practiced strictly by military personnel, further influencing civilians to join the military. Military awards, medals and promotions are granted to talented boxers.
- Military - The military is the life and blood of Alexandria. The focus of the army is primarily that of guerrilla warfare, utilizing archaic techniques to gain a unique advantage. Slugthrowers are the mainstay of the military due to its lack of trace, unlike blasters, and it is capable of being silenced, making it incredibly more difficult to locate an Alexandrian shooter.
- Religion - Alexandrians were once tied to a faith, but that faith was abolished alongside the ruling dynasties of times past. Unlike the quasi-religious sects of Force Users across the galaxy, Alexandria has no sect, nor does the Commonwealth, requiring anyone who desires to train their abilities to seek it elsewhere.
Technology:
Technology of Alexandria has taken a vast dip from the rest of the galaxy. Due to isolation policies enacted by the former government, Alexandrians have focused primarily on ground-based vehicles, with mostly military vehicles possessing repulsorlifts or government-controlled public transport throughout the system. The militaries production focuses on slugthrowers and shells, rather than plasma cannons or blasters. Without contact with Force Users and their lightsabers, vibroswords are a rarity and mostly seen as an ornament or hobby, although vibroknives are commonly used by street thugs. The most advanced technology of Alexandria are their ships, possessing almost up-to-date technology for spacecrafts. As they begin to seek out diplomatic ties with the rest of the galaxy their technology is sure to catch up in the following decades.
History:
Alexandria was inhabited by humans over ten thousand years ago, albeit the governing humans were reclusive and kept the Alexandrian people under a tight isolation policy. A monarchy was formed by the ruling supreme, spreading their influence throughout the Cadi system. With an isolation policy and an ever-expanding population, planets across the system were forced to be terraformed to allow for the rapid expansion of their population.
As hundreds of years began to quickly pace forward, the old dynasties mild grievances had ballooned into immense political tension. Prior to the Gulag Plague of 425 ABY, a civil war between the lords of the Cadi System erupted. Devastation gripped the worlds governed by the monarchy. Although short lived, the effects of the war would remain for years to come, poverty, famine, radiation sickness, disease & PTSD among survivors.
Everything spiraled out of control when the Gulag Plague hit. A freighter emerged into the system, looking for relief from the plague, unbeknownst to them they held the disease within their blood. Welcomed with suspicion, the pilot was quickly turned away upon the news he delivered, but by then it had been too late. Officials who had met him returned to their families, and their family members would go to work, school and the shops. It spread almost overnight.
In a matter of weeks it had spread across the system. With much of the galaxy silent, hiding from the plague, they were unable to gain medical relief. They faced the plague alone, as they had with other challenges in their time. Over the period of the Four Hundred Years Darkness an estimated eight-hundred billion would perish. The Kingdom of Alexandria was crippled, and as they emerged from the darkness the military swept down on the ruling lords with fury.
A coup of military commanders stormed the palaces and estates of the elite class. Those of royalty and nobility who did not comply to the demands of the military were met with prison terms, while others were forgiven and allowed to join the military as penance. In a bid to gain control of a situation that was quickly getting out of hand, the commanders formed The Commonwealth, an alliance of the planets across the Cadi System that would be ruled by a stratocracy, a board of military commanders.
Since the coup, the following decades would be followed by rebuilding, strengthening the military and increasing military funding, and the funding of space exploration. The Commonwealth is no longer invested in the archaic isolation policies of the former Kingdom of Alexandria, and thus seek allies in a galaxy they have long forgotten.
Years of preparing to unite with the rest of the galaxy had almost paid off, the Commonwealth was prepared to emerge from their isolation. It was one evening in 844 ABY that all would be unraveled, once more. In a moment, millions vanished. Not only was the military crippled by this strange event, but the disappearance of two security council members of the army and intelligence division had vanished. This left the sole dependence of the Commonwealth in the hands of Horus, Lord of Admirals, and the only current security council member seated. In time the seats will be replaced, but for now, the people of Alexandria and the Cadi System will once more need to pick itself back up.
Notable PCs: Horus
Intent: This planet is being made for a minor faction that is being made known as The Commonwealth. This is a NFU military-centric faction that will hopefully put a new spin on political play in the galaxy with the unique governing stratocracy, as well as a place for NFU's to run around without the constant presence of Jedi, Sith or alternate FU orders taking the front stage.
