"I am not the same Jedi as I was before. I am stronger. More powerful."
"You may talk like the Sith that you just buried, but you are still a Jedi. A Knight of the Republic you may not be. Yet you are still You."
-- Ella Nova in discussion with the Nomad inside A City Lost to Time after the cremation of Darth Ayra the Afflicted.
Alicia Drey, otherwise known as Ella Nova, was a Force-sensitive human female who served the Old Republic as a Jedi Knight during the height of the One Sith Wars. Later, after the Republic were conquered by the One Sith, Nova travelled to Coruscant on board the Sochi Ru (named after her Jedi Master) to find and capture the Dark Lord of the Sith: Darth Carnifex . After losing a Lightsaber duel against the Dark Lord Nova was instead captured and later imprisoned by the One Sith in a facility known as the Black Pyramid.
After 822 days of captivity at the hands of Carnifex, Nova was later freed from her prison by the Sun Guards on Sojourn after their Sith Master-- Darth Ayra -- sought the assistance of a Jedi after she became infected by the Orbalisks following a catastrophic pilgrimage to Freedon Nadd's tomb on Dxun. Taking her to Sojourn the Sun Guards delivered Nova to Darth Ayra who tried to persuade the Jedi into healing her. When Nova refused to help Ayra the Dark Lord attempted the Transfer essence ritual on the helpless Jedi Knight but failed due to the fact that the Holocron of Heresies was damaged after the explanation of the ritual was made inaccessible by the Jedi Masters Corvus Raaf and Connor Harrison some years before it fell into Darth Ayra's ownership.
The attempt did, however, turn Nova over to the Dark side of the Force. After falling over to the dark side Ella agreed to join her new Sith Master in their search for a cure to the Orbalisk infection. There Nova told Darth Ayra about Childhood: an anomaly found near Nespis VIII that was said to cure the sick and infected. Together the Dark Lord and the Dark Jedi would spend sometime together within the anomaly as Ayra desperately searched for a cure. There they would translate some of the hieroglyphs found within the Necropolis which directed them to the Deep Core world of Kalist VI where the mysterious Humanoids known as the Builders were said to have built an entire city and who were thought have also been responsible for the construction of the Childhood satellite.
There they discovered A City Lost to Time in a state of ruin and disrepair with none of the Builders in sight. As Nova went to explore the abandoned city for answers Darth Ayra would focus her last days into the creation of a Sith Holocron where she recorded all her powers, knowledge and beliefs about the Dark side of the Force. Meanwhile, her apprentice discovered a man known only to them as the Nomad. By the time the two of them returned to Darth Ayra they found her deceased within a tower in the centre of the city and the Sith Holocron that she had constructed before she had died.
After cremating the Dark Lord of the Sith Nova begun her plot to destroy Darth Carnifex . Taking the Initium, and leaving Kalist VI, the former Knight of the Old Republic joined Humbarine and used her status as a war hero in the Old Republic to win an election to become a Senator in the Galactic Alliance. It was here that Nova discovered that the Nomad she had met on Kalist VI had stolen the Sith Holocron of Darth Ayra the Afflicted from her.
Later Nova would use her credentials as a Senator to join A Summit of Governments in an attempt to ruin the peace talks between the dignitaries present and frame the Sith Order for an attack on the meeting. However, before she could proceed with her plot, Darth Carnifex framed Nova and manipulated the summit into trying to kill her after convincing all of them that she was Darth Ayra .
Captured by Vulpesen in the Temple of Balance during A Summit of Governments Nova was turned over to the Jedi Order. There the Jedi High Council imprisoned her in cryostasis until they could figure out how to turn her back to the Light side of the Force. Some decades after her imprisonment the Dark Lord of the Sith-- Darth Solipsis-- rose to power and declared war on the Galactic Alliance. Sparking a conflict known as the Second Great Hyperspace War Nova was forgotten about and there laid in a cryochamber for five decades inside a secret prison facility on Coruscant.
Before the turn of the ninth century the Imperial Despot Ignacious Korvan joined a newly resurrected Darth Solipsis (who had been defeated by the Jedi Grandmaster Valery Noble during the Second Great Hyperspace War) and together begun the formation of a faction that would later be known as the Dark Empire. Seeking to recruit old heroes of the last war to their cause Korvan initiated Operation: Absolution to free to the former Imperial Knight Sahar and recruit her into the Dark Side Elite: an organisation made up various Force-sensitives who would serve the Galactic Emperor directly as the enforcers of His will.
During their mission to save Sahar from the Alliance the Dark Imperials freed other dissidents serving prison time for their crimes and recruited them into the Dark Empire. Among them was Ella Nova: the former Knight of the Old Republic who had been imprisoned for crimes against the Galactic Alliance almost fifty years ago. There Nova begun impersonating her former Sith Master and begun calling herself Darth Ayra while adopting her alias Alicia Drey for herself.
Under the disguise of the late Dark Lord Nova joined the Dark Empire in their offensive against the Galactic Alliance and invaded the Jedi homeworld of Tython therefore sparking a successor conflict to the Second Hyperspace War colloquially known as the
C o r e W a r s: a conflict which saw the Dark Empire launch an daring attack on the Core Worlds and successfully annex several star systems away from the Alliance. During the Battle of Tython Nova found Vulpesen: the same man who had captured her fifty years ago and consequentially led to her half-century of imprisonment in cryostasis. After losing her Lightsaber duel Nova retreated and resurfaced on Lianna where she met with Vyllia Santhe to discuss the recovery of lost assets, and wealth left over by the real Alicia Drey's former estate.
Adopting the business persona first worn by Darth Ayra fifty years ago Nova (as Alicia Drey) begun meeting with dignitaries from across the Galaxy in order to create arrangements that would give her influence with her new partners. It was during the Second Galactic Economic Conference that Nova would make contact with Casteban Mecetti and revealed that she had begun working for the New Imperial Security Bureau: a police and security organisation found within the Empire of the Lost which also dealt in acts of subterfuge, sabotage and intelligence gathering.
There she would use her position within the NISB to begin manipulating both Casteban and his son Maldor Mecetti into unknowingly helping her facilitate a new plot that would see the Empire of the Lost attack the Kainite: the amalgamated powerbases of both Darth Carnifex and Darth Prazutis whom had taken over the Stygian Caldera and the realms of the Sith Holy Worlds to form a vassal state of the Sith Order found north of the Tion Cluster.
After Velran Kilran led a successful coup d'état against the Imperial Ruling Council (originally formed by Aculia Voland before her mysterious disappearance) he turned to promote dignitaries within the Empire to form his own Council. Among those selected to join him was Nova who became known to the 'lost' Imperials as Director Drey. As the Staff Director of the New Imperial Security Bureau Drey initiated several schemes and plots to facilitate her masterplan which included the creation of the Direct Surveillance of Domestic Threats: an initiative that would see listening outposts established across the planets within the Empire of the Lost tasked with surveying and observing the local populaces of every star system within the Empire.
During the Convocation of Sojourn the new Staff Director revealed the existence of the Order of the Sith Lords to Maldor Mecetti and convinced him to join her in the Rule of Two following a series of events in which the Imperial Moff was used to facilitate an escape attempt in one of the prison colonies on Stygeon Prime, and the acquisition of the Creatura Reactor in exchange for a vast fortune of credits. Here, after being led by the Director, and in combination with his own acquisitions of paraphernalia designed to help him learn more about the Sith, Maldor was turned to the Dark side of the Force and begun calling himself Darth Trigonus.
To begin hostilities between the Empire of the Lost and the Kainite (using her new powers as head of the New Imperial Security Bureau) Drey established the NISB's position on Felucia: a planet located just a few lightyears away from the Stygian Caldera and a place that she knew to be holding Sith secrets. Skirmishes begun breaking out between the NISB and another sect within the Sith Order known as the Tsis'Kaar. These little events sparked a greater one.
In Darkest Jungle the forces of the Kainite and Sith Order engaged in a battle against the Empire of the Lost which resulted in Felucia being annexed by the Imperials. Under the cover of battle Director Drey met with the Lord of the Tsis'Kaar, Darth Malum of House Marr , and revealed herself as a Sith Lord. There, she was recruited into the ranks of the Tsis'Kaar and joined Malum in a conspiracy that later led to the formation of the Fifth Wing: an organisation which facilitated the recruitment of Imperials within the Empire (alongside expats of the Tenth Sith Empire and Tsis'Kaar operatives whom infiltrated the Empire of the Lost with the help of Director Drey) to begin influencing the inner political, military and economic workings of the Empire through acts of sedition, sabotage, treason and intelligence gathering.
Here the Fifth Wing infiltrated the New Imperial Security Bureau and it's Imperial Immortals as well as the other branches which made up the Empire of the Lost's organisational and military structures. Simultaneously Drey had effectively infiltrated the ranks of the Tsis'Kaar and used this to her advantage to attend a war cabinet convened by the Corpse Emperor, Darth Empyrean , on board his flagship: the Mors Mon. As the Sith discussed their invasion plans for the Galactic Alliance they also considered attacking the Empire of the Lost in order to protect their secrets on Felucia, and to secure the Sith Holy Worlds, which were now threatened by Velran Kilran and the expansionist policies he had adopted after coronating himself as Emperor of All Imperial Kind.
During the war council meeting Drey made her presence known by attempting to dissuade the Sith into attacking the Empire of the Lost and to focus their aggression upon the Galactic Alliance. This was a mistake as it, in turn, drew the attention of the congregated Sith Lords and the Corpse Emperor, who used his esoteric abilities to determine her location and identity. This-- combined with the hostilities which saw Felucia annexed by the Empire-- led to the Sith Order invading the Imperial occupied world of Tion.
In conjunction with the Kainite, Darth Empyrean led an invasion on Tion in 902 ABY and subsequently annexed it away from the Empire of the Lost. In doing so the Sith Order also won the planets Felucia, Morlana One, Florrum, Ferrix and Makem Te, with the later planet's population destroyed by the Corpse Emperor in The Reaping of Makem Te during the weeks leading up to his invasion of the Tion system.
With the Sith Holy Worlds secured from the threat of Imperial invasion (now that there were several star systems in between the Empire of the Lost and the Stygian Caldera now) the Dark Lord of the Kainite, Darth Carnifex , enacted a Base Delta Zero on the planet Tion in the Fate of Tion. This event plunged the Empire of the Lost into chaos as billions of surviving Tionese spread throughout the Imperium as refugees (following the destruction of their homeworld) and was further exacerbated by the Trade Federation of Planets placing the star systems remaining within the Empire under a trade embargo therefore cutting off goods and services which filtered in from the Core Worlds.
During the Siege of Tion the Corpse Emperor not only took Tion but also exposed Director Drey as a spy for the Dark Empire whom had infiltrated the Empire of the Lost using evidence provided by the Trade Federation of Planets. In the aftermath of the battle the Imperial Ruling Council convened a trial on Lianna to try the Director for acts of sedition, and treason against the Empire. After being defended by Vyllia Santhe during the trial Velran Kilran found Drey not guilty and cleared her of the alleged crimes.
After being cleared Director Drey wrote a letter to Maldor Mecetti urging him to turn away from Kalist VI after he was led there by the mysterious Her . A cunning woman in her own right, and with experience on how a Sith Lord thinks, Drey suspected that Darth Malum of House Marr would try to kill her after she effectively betrayed him during the war cabinet on board the Mors Mon. So, in anticipation of the attempt, the Director sought to initiate a series of events that would see the Fifth Wing exposed, and the Empire of the Lost joining the Galactic Alliance in their war against the Sith Order, so that her plans to destroy Darth Carnifex could continue after death.
Her prediction became true. Darth Malum of House Marr summoned the Director to Florrum and captured her alongside Darth Strosius . There she was brought before Darth Empyrean during the Rubicon, and was murdered by Darth Malum. The Lord of the Tsis'Kaar then purged the Fifth Wing of any loyalists to the late Director and continued the conspiracy that the two had begun on Felucia. The death of the Director brought about the emergence of Her : a Sith Lord who followed the Rule of Two, and the Sith Apprentice of Darth Mendacium the Betrayer, who was formerly known to Director Drey as the Nomad.
On Voss Her revealed themselves to Maldor Mecetti and exposed the fact that Director Drey was not a spy working on behalf of the Dark Empire, Sith Order nor the Empire of the Lost but was in fact working for Her in order to continue facilitating a plan to destroy the Sith Order so that it could be reorganized into following the Rule of Two. Mecetti was led to Deep Core in order to discover the planet Kalist VI where a subroutine within the communicator he had been using to contact Casteban Mecetti was prompted urging him to turn away from the planet, and to find Valery Noble , so that he could expose the Order of the Sith Lords, and the many other secrets that she had shared inside her letter.
Instead, Mecetti proceeded to Kalist VI and met with Her on the outskirts to A City Lost in Time. There, the two entered the ruin to recover the Sith Holocron of Darth Ayra the Afflicted and commiserated the beginning of a new Rule of Two.
"When all the options are wrong," he muttered to himself in the darkness, "What does it matter which one I choose?"
-- Darth Bane in discussion with his apprentice Darth Zannah.
Legacy.
The Direct Surveillance of Domestic Threats, which was created to help operatives from the Tsis'Kaar to infiltrate the Empire of the Lost, is still in use today. During the Rim War: Revenge of the Empire the Tionese warrior Fùchóu Zhī Shén was manipulated by the Fifth Wing into attacking the Nest and was subsequently hacked by the program. Also, despite being murdered by Darth Malum of House Marr , the Fifth Wing (a conspiracy designed to reform the Empire of the Lost into the Sith Empire) remains active today, and continues to work towards influencing the internal politics, military organisations, and economics of the Empire, namely within the Tion Cluster.
The Imperial Immortals is special task force which works for the New Imperial Security Bureau and served under Director Drey during her team as the Head of the NISB. It is still active despite many of it's members belonging to the Fifth Wing. Despite her attempts to expose the Order of the Sith Lords before her death at the hands of Darth Malum the Rule of Two continues to persist, and survive in the shadows, influencing events which affect the Empire of the Lost, and the Sith Order, of which the Fifth Wing is their plot to destroy the Sith.
As part of her plot to destroy Darth Carnifex the Director sought to influence the Empire of the Lost. One way she facilitated this was through the founding of the Drey Corporation: an agricultural and mining company based on Lianna who came into possession of several assets on the planets Ruisto, Obredaan, Lothal and Kegan. The work of the company turned the Keganites into an important worker force within the Empire, and helped stem the effects of the Trade Federation of Planet's trade embargo on the Empire, through the supply of foodstuffs throughout the Tion Cluster.
The company also saw the acquisition of the Doonium Mines of Lothal which facilitated the mineral Doonium coming into supply and demand in the Empire: an important resource in the use of constructing Star Destroyers. These mines were later acquired by Makai Dashiell and his Aina Holdings who brought them into their portfolio under the umbrella of their Lothal mining operations. Unfortunately, the same could not be said for the Director's old business partner other deal, as Drey's Cortosis Mine was nationalized by the Dark Empire despite her attempts to negotiate differently in Dark Extractivism.
With the help of Vyllia Santhe the Director was able to track down several assets which were one owned by Darth Ayra . Among them were the Spice Mines of Kessel that the late Dark Lord had opened alongside the Black Tie Syndicate in the 840s, and which now operate under the Empire of the Lost. The spice produced by these mines are sold by the Imperials on the black market, and the credits circulated back into the Empire's economy, providing the means to reduce the effects of the trade embargo placed upon the Empire of the Lost by the Trade Federation of Planets after hostilities broke out between the Imperials and Sith Order of which the Director helped to facilitate.
After falling to the Dark side of the Force the Director (before she later adopted the alias of Alicia Drey) was Ella Nova: a Dark Jedi who once served the Old Republic as a Jedi Knight before she was captured by the One Sith. In the final days of Darth Ayra , Nova helped the Dark Lord of the Sith discover A City Lost to Time and this was where she would later construct her Sith Holocron which was then discovered by the Nomad that would come to be known as Darth Mendacium the Betrayer.
If Nova had not helped Darth Ayra then she would never have made it to Kalist VI where her Sith Holocron would not have been stolen by the Nomad. Later, he became Darth Mendacium the Betrayer: a Sith Lord who begun practising the Rule of Two and would later take his own Sith Apprentice. Indirectly Nova holds some responsibility for the reformation of the Order of the Sith Lords eight centuries after it had been originally destroyed by Darth Vader on board the Second Death Star, and for a new lineage of Sith Lords who follow the Rule of Two as taught by Darth Bane.
Directly, Nova worked for a disciple of the Rule of Two-- a Sith Master, known only as Her -- in a plan to destroy the Sith and reorganise the Sith Order. This plan led to the Siege of Tion: an invasion by the Sith Order on the Empire of the Lost which resulted in Darth Carnifex destroying the planet Tion.
In the Core Worlds the Dark Empire attacked the Galactic Alliance and took several star systems into their domain. In Operation: Shadow Hand Nova participated in the invasion of Tython (under the disguise of Darth Ayra ) which initiated the C o r e W a r s. On the other side of the Galaxy the Tingel Arm Coalition was formed as a Rebellion against the Empire of the Lost after the Imperials annexed the planet Lothal: a battle that was won with thanks to Nova after she eliminated a militia inside the Capital City. Her use of a Lightsaber in this attack was later used as evidence in her trial as the prosecution tried to prove that she really was a Sith Lord.
The Director is also indirectly responsible for Maldor Mecetti 's fall to the Dark side of the Force. While the Imperial Moff had already studied Sith Holocrons on his homeworld of Obulette, and had been collecting Sith paraphernalia for quite sometime before they had even met, she revealed the existence of the Rule of Two to him during the Convocation of Sojourn that would later lead him into meeting Her who orchestrated all of the events which led to him becoming Darth Trigonus and later making him her Sith Apprentice.
Physical Information.
When Ella Nova was a Knight of the Old Republic she wore a traditional Jedi robe, and her armour when battling the forces of the One Sith as they invaded the Old Republic. After falling to the Dark side of the Force she switched to wearing Sith apparel as she begun impersonating a Sith Lord called Darth Ayra . In her public life Alicia Drey wore the uniform of the New Imperial Security Bureau which carried on her chest the highest rank in the organisation of Staff Director, and when attending business meetings, wore dresses or clothes that made her look stunning. She was 5ft, 8in tall and always had blonde hair.
Personality and Beliefs.
"I have freed you. Better than that I am too sick to stop you from leaving. Yet you are still here. Why haven't you left me?"
"Both of us have been killed in our own way, Ayra. The least I can do is make it hurt a little less before you pass on."
"Will you avenge Us?"
"Of course, master."
-- Darth Ayra and Ella Nova's conversation on Childhood.
Sometime in the 830s Ella Nova was recruited into the ranks of the Jedi Order on the planet Coruscant. Here, she was taught about the Light side of the Force, and the Jedi Code, first by a Jedi Master called Carn Dista, and later when she was taken as a Padawan learner by Sochi Ru. As a Knight of the Old Republic she was a believer and defender of democracy, as well as the rule, and law of the then Galactic Republic, before it was conquered and destroyed by the One Sith.
After turning to the Dark side of the Force Ella lost her belief in the Jedi Code, and in the Light side of the Force. She begun to adopt the principles of the dark side and used them to create cunning plans, schemes and plots which resulted in the destruction of an entire planet, and two galactic powers entering into conflict with one another. This belief in the dark side also allowed her to infiltrate several organisations within the Empire of the Lost, Dark Empire and the Sith Order.
Although she impersonated the Dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Ayra , Ella did not believe in the Rule of Two nor was she a believer in the Sith code. This in spite of the fact that she used these to help turn Maldor Mecetti to the Dark side of the Force. Towards the end of her life Ella only cared about destroying Darth Carnifex and was willing to do anything to accomplish it up until she came to regret her life. Before she headed to Florrum to meet with Darth Malum of House Marr (where she was later captured and murdered by the Lord of the Tsis'Kaar) Nova wrote a letter to Mecetti urging him to find Valery Noble and bring the Empire of the Lost into an alliance with the Galactic Alliance against the Sith Order indicating some regret for what she had done since the Dark Empire freed her from captivity.
