DESCRIPTION |
The first in a new classification of warship, the Alliance-class Starhawk represents a new breed of vessel put forward to bolster the Defense Forces of the Galactic Alliance and secure victory in the coming conflicts that await on the horizon. The Starhawk classification is defined as any Battlecruiser whose design favors speed and maneuverability in lieu of armaments and carrier capacity. However, due to the sheer size and complexity of these vessels, only a limited number have been produced, making them a precious resource that should not be blindly or foolishly thrown away in the pursuit of glory. The main weapon of the Alliance-class Starhawk is a Tractor Beam Array which consists of six individual projectors at the front of the vessel, arrayed around a forward hangar entry point. Each tractor beam projector is powered by a Magnite Crystal that is said to allegedly produce a beam ten times more powerful than those tractor beams on a standard Star Destroyer. This array is also theorized to be sufficiently strong enough that it could potentially tear the hull plating clean off of a starship with ease. Utilizing the Array does come at a cost, that being in its limited use and lower rate of fire. Between activations of the array, its capacitors and power systems need time to recharge while specialized technicians work to realign the crystals or replace them as needed. Likewise, further redesigns were needed to ensure that the vessel was capable of housing this impressive array, and as the design focused on the implementation of this system, it sacrificed abilities in other sections. To ensure that the array and its power systems had the room required to operate at peak efficiency, hangar capacity was sacrificed, resulting in the vessel carrying a lower number of Squadrons than a standard Battlecruiser of its size. Further focusing on increasing the speed and maneuverability of the vessel also resulted in many of its weapon systems being replaced in favor of additional power systems and components to further achieve higher rates at Sublight and Light speeds respectively. Located at the center of the vessel is a connective fuselage, the design of which is similar to that seen in the Nebulon-B Frigate, albeit larger. This connective section houses the majority of the vessel's hangar bays and also keeps the forward sections connected to the aft engine compartments and systems. This area is key in ensuring that the vessel remains operational, as sufficient damage has the potential to prevent the vessel from launching or recovering its Starfighters, or may make it more difficult for the crew to traverse between the two sections. Additionally, there is a worst-case scenario, in which, the connective fuselage is damaged to the point that the vessel is split in half. An additional hangar bay is located towards the front of the vessel in the middle of the Tractor Beam Array, though this hangar bay poses its own challenges as navigating the small corridor in and out is difficult; and near impossible when the Tractor Beam Array is powered and in active use. The Alliance-class Starhawk steps forward onto the Galactic Stage to join a long line of warships that have come before it and provide the Galaxy with a new classification to add to the Anaxes War College. Focused on speed and maneuverability, the vessel serves as an insight into its designs just as much as reveals that the defense of the people is the utmost priority. Designed to fulfill this role, its powerful Tractor Beam Array more than makes up for its smaller armaments. The true test will come when the first Flag Officers command these vessels at the behest of the Galactic Alliance, and it is a test that is rapidly approaching. |
