- Weight: Very Heavy
- Ammunition Type: Generator Power Supply/Ship Power Supply
- Ammunition Capacity: Effectively unlimited.
- Reload Speed: Low, Ten second recharge rate.
- Effective Range: Battlefield
- Rate of Fire: Very Low, Once per ten seconds, when fired, it emits a beam of pure electricity that lasts ten seconds.
- Stopping Power: High
- Recoil: None.
- Nicknamed 'The Burrower' for it's ability to burrow through materials like durasteel, and penetrate Ship hulls, and pretty much destroyer star fighters and smaller ships.
- The energy beam, upon hitting a deflector shield, will spread the impact across the shield, significantly draining the shield's power, this blast lasts ten seconds, and could very well lead to the destruction/defeat of a ship.
The Alterra H.I.D. Turbolaser MK. 1. (The Mark 1 for short) is a large, turbolaser sized cannon with a singular barrel, that can fire a ten second beam of pure electricity and plasma, that can pierce hulls. It was designed by Alterra Arms and Armour for the Confederacy to be used on larger ships to assist in the winning of battles, liberation/protection of planets and other assets the Confederacy might find valuable. It was somewhat inspired by the Deathstar's laser, and the Eclipse' laser in the one, powerful blast aspect. It can fire a singular, ten second long burst of pure electricity and plasma that can burrow through most materials. While this is a good idea in theory, it drains alot of power, and takes ten seconds to recharge, provided the energy supply is providing enough energy at a sufficient rate. It is also typically bad against larger ships, unless it can get a shot on a critical part, such as the reactor, bridge, or engines. Otherwise it is mostly only doing non-essential damage, making it a sniper type of turbolaser. It can rotate on the base in a full 360 degree turn in either direction, and up and down on the holdings to point straight up, or angle downwards. However this movement is slow, and it is recommended to take out slow moving vehicles, or fire infront of faster ones, before they can turn away. It can also be used as a Anti-Personnel turret to obliterate forces. Going back to ships, it could, in theory, cut certain ships in half, provided they are of the right size, such as a small frigate, or a cruiser.
Strengths:
- Highly effective against small forces and vehicles, such as tanks, air speeders, star fighters.
- Blasts are very high-yield, capable of destroying a starfighter in a single shot, pulverizing most ground vehicles, and dealing significant damage to shields and armour of larger spaceships.
- It has no auto-targeting system, as a safety measure to prevent it targeting friendly ships and/or unnecessarily using the ship/base's power, stranding it in space, and/or lowering it's shields. This however, is a double edged sword, serving as a weakness aswell.
- Due to it's power source, large barrel and turbolaser status, it's range is battlefield.
- Has limited effectiveness against larger ships, and thicker/denser hulls/materials.
- Turbolasers in general are mounted on large, bulky emplacements which have a hard time targeting strike craft and even smaller and faster corvettes.
- The significantly increased energy output results in a slower cycle time for the H.I.D.
- It has no auto-targeting system as a safety measure, meaning it must be fired manually, meaning each turbolaser must be controlled independently.
