So, I came upon this interesting concept after being prompted the question "If you were given a book with the story of your life, would you read the end?".

Not sure why, but I though of "What would it be like if you could remember the future, but not the past?"

So, upon meeting someone you could know everything about them merely by remembering what you would or might do later, but moments after forget how you met. It would be like, a short-term memory loss Oracle.

How cool of a story would that be? If you could use the future to your advantage like that, could you give up on your knowledge of the past? Also, would this be roleplayable, or would there be too many variables involved with how we don't know what will happen next in an RP OOC so why would we know IC?

Just some food for thought. You can answer the original prompt too if you'd like.

In reality... that would be one of the worst things imaginable. So no, I would not give up my memories of the past in order to see my future.

However, for RP... that is quite an interesting concept.

IC: Sounds like someone ah'd be mates wi' an' such. Ah see th'future (sometimes), an' he (or she) knows it. Go on ahead an' confirm me fears.

OOC: Not sure if it's playable. I mean... it'd be a challenge, and I think it would be dependent on bringing in a lot of people who might have a good idea of what is to come for their characters, or a certain degree of awareness of what comes next, who might be invading whom, so on and so forth. Basically, there's probably a lot of meta involved. ;)

Oh yeah I'm sure it would require LOTS of meta, but just imagine the difficulty they would have mentally?

I'm not sure or not I could handle that. Of course, if you had a life time companion, you could just rely on them as your memory of the past, find comfort in their love to act as your handicap. You can see every path way in the future, but are blinded to what you have already done, your minds eye permanently looking forward. A person like that could only feel grief for people who are alive, as if they die they forget them. A person like would know when someone was going to hurt them, yet might not do anything about it because they'll just forget the pain later. They'd be an indomitable spirit, but equally manipulated. Their reality could be changed at the snap of fingers, and they wouldn't be able to tell the difference, yet they would know it was going to happen.

What a tragic existence.

I'm partial to more seriousness than humour in my writing, so there's a certain allure to the idea, when you define it like that.

IC Drama. Good stuff, that is. But yes, it would be a rather difficult character to write. It'd be a matter of weighing whether or not the level of difficulty would squash the fun that we're supposed to be having, engaging in this hobby in the first place.

Could I imagine living like that? Probably. Would I want to? Probably not.

IRL: Never! I would destroy the book, burn it down, separate the ashes, bury them all down, and just to be sure, dig them out with enough dirt surrounding them, get all the ash (with dirt) together, and throw them into Eyjafjallajökull.

RP: It... could be cool, I guess... It may be playable, but not too interesting, I think. Maybe at first, but as time goes on... No, most likely.

I think I might just do this concept... but I need to find time for it. Voracitos is a demanding git, and Triam is calling out to me. I already have Kyr, Stone, Iron, and Boke literally crying that I don't use them as much any more or even very much at all.

I think honestly, the most difficult part of trying to be something like that, would be defining the present. If you don't remember what you just did, and know what you're about to do, where is the in-between? There wouldn't be any overlap of the past and future, so how could you perceive anything happening around you. There wouldn't be any sense of present! They'd only be able to perceive what isn't happening.

I'd imagine they'd either be freakishly incredible at combat, or pretty much dead whenever someone wants them to be. By freakishly incredible, I mean they can just evade anything that comes at them, because in a blink of an eye they've already moved.
