An Inescapable Meeting

we do not meet people by accident
Eadu, Senatory Hall, 10:00 am

Eadu's Senatory Hall truly was a place of gathering.

Nilia sat by the large, rounded glass of the large building. It had many rooms, but the atrium was the greatest. Through the massive feature windows, one could be treated to the spectacle f Eadu's natural weather, witnessing the violent storms that the world was famous for. Watching them reminded the young Senator of her childhood, playing often in the rain and being chaperoned inside when the winds got too intense. She had heard the frightening tales of people being picked up by the air currents and never seen again; whether they were designed to keep her inside or had any validity, she still had no clue.

There was a reason for her escape beyond simple pleasure, however. The diplomatic guests they had been hosting had yet to depart, which left a tinge of excitement in the air around the Senate -- Politicians gladhanded with foreign dignitaries, eager to make connections and spread the goodwill of the Sovereignty. But she was tired of that, at least for now. Her smile had begun to hurt her face, and it was so terribly easy to sneak away for a sanity check. Though she knew, someone would be by again soon to remind her of her duties to meet and greet a few more representatives, and she could only pray fervently they would get lost on their way to track her down.

In the outside world beyond the messy deals of organizing a new government, her planet's fearsome storm raged on. Dazzling lightning heralded the fearsome thunder, the murky clouds keeping the morning sunlight from reaching the rocky surface of the world that made for one hell of a light show. Sitting in silence, the Politician enjoyed it alone, almost eternally thankful for this brief piece of peace that she had duly earned.

Every now and then, Akabane found himself in familiar territory while searching for Aevan. Eadu was one of those places. The rainy planet that he'd gladly avoid if he had a choice. His reason for being here was because he had to do this, regretfully, he needed money. As long as he could handle the thunder that this place seemed to never run out of and do his job, he was promised a good pay. The job Akabane signed up for was security at Eadu's Senatory Hall.

Akabane was sure the organization only hired him because of his connection to the CIS. Of course he didn't boast proudly and say "I'm an apprentice to the sith lord Darth Metus," but he knew information got around. If that was true he didn't mind at all. What mattered most is that he got the job and screwing up would be a problem, so he focused on his work. Although, this job didn't require much effort unless something actually came up. So he stood around for hours waiting to catch a bad guy, sometimes he got lucky but most of the time nothing happened.

Socializing was normally something the guests and government officials took part in. Security personnel weren't supposed to chat and Akabane was aware that, but he couldn't help himself. He was a young, carefree troublemaker growing tired of standing around. Speaking with a stunning young lady would make everything better. Luck for him, someone who fit that description was sitting by a large window. Akabane made his way through the crowd and slowly approached her.

She was alone? Such a beautiful girl had no one accompany her? Instead, she looked outside the window to view the morning sky. Strange. Once he was only several feet away, he would be speak. Hands in pockets and eyes on the outside much like hers. "Did you get sick of flattering so many people? It must be exhausting." he asked with a warm grin.

The poor girl had been deep in thought, and had to suppress a yelp of surprise at the unfamiliar voice so close by, her body briefly twitching as she was startled. It was clear she had not anticipated being interrupted so quickly during her sabbatical. Taking a heartbeat to collect herself, Nilia turned slightly to face her intruder and was pleasantly surprised - At least it wasn't a stuffy old codger seeking her favour (Though the jury was still out on the 'seeking her favour' part, judging by the obvious aura of charisma).

Finally having pulled enough of herself together to reply, the Senator put on a friendly smile and looked up at the speaker with an expression of unreadable emotions, a lilt of playfulness in her voice despite as she answered his very intriguing question with honesty, "It does get tiring. But the work never stops, hm?" Judging by his sharp attire, he was either a bodyguard or a businessman. Either way, hopefully, he'd sympathize a little. Behind her, a few stray tendrils of lightning struck at a particularly vulnerable rock formation, followed by the roar of the thunder. Her eyes were drawn back at once and she grinned, clearly pleased with the spectacle. But after the rumblings past her attention was drawn back to the mysterious intruder, an eyebrow raising a little in question.

"Are you another groupie who finally sought me out in my place of relaxation? I'm afraid I'm all out of courtesy for the moment."

Akabane had accidentally surprised the girl when he started to speak, providing him with something to laugh at. It would be a silent laugh though, he was sure she'd be angry and believe he made fun of her. Moreover, he planned on keeping his job till the end of the gathering. Some time passed and then she answered his question. She said it did get tiring but the work never stops. The answer she gave him was enough for him to pity her.

The lightning strike outside caught the girl's attention and she grinned at it. Akabane glanced out the window for a moment and witnessed it himself. He wasn't impressed by the lightning striking the rocks. A sigh came out rather than awe. She spoke again, this time asking him a question and not as friendly. Akabane laughed when she finished. "Certainly not. I saw a lovely lady all by herself and decided to spend some of my precious time with her. If my presence is unwanted however, I shall leave you alone."

At once it seemed she felt bad, it was written all over her mildly crestfallen face, "Oh. No, I mean -- I appear to have misjudged you. I suppose you may accompany me if you wish. I'm Nilia, well, Senator Saavilin. I'm not familiar with you, however..." Curiosity was blatant on her face as she looked up to him after her introduction, obviously attempting to figure out what he could be, at least in terms of his job. If he was someone truly important, she had royally botched it already.

"Stormwatching is a hobby on Eadu. It's not that remarkable, but it's something to look at, isn't it?" The young Senator didn't wait for his reply to her first sentence and shifted over on the bench, making room for him if he so wished to sit alongside her. The storm simply churned on outside, unabated by anything or anyone as more lightning arced across the crowds in a violent display of raw power.

The expression on her face bothered Akabane. Don't make that face. it left him with an uneasy feeling, had he caused it? She gave him permission to accompany her if he wanted to, he smiled. Akabane was expecting her to shoo him away. He felt relief, waiting for her to finish speaking to give his reply. Nilia Saavilin was the young lady's name, she was a senator? Interesting... he thought that name was familiar for a moment, in thought almost ignoring her gaze. Nilia looked his way with curiosity in her eyes. Oh, right. he had forgetten they were doing introductions. "It's a pleasure, Miss Saavilin." he started. "I go by Akabane, I'm currently working for the Confederacy. Although this is... I wanted more work, and security pays well apparently."

Akabane waited to answer her second question until he sat down, as she had scooted over. Accepting an invitation from a female was something he did best. There were things he couldn't accept due to reasons, but an invitation to sit down, he could do. He walked over and graciously sat down beside her, eyes focused on the outside. "That's strange hobby you have , Miss Saavilin." he said chuckling a bit. "But, I love nature above everything else so I might enjoy this 'stormwatching'." he said being as honest as he could. Akabane wanted to say something else, he smirked. He decided to keep quiet, because he was in slapping distance.

"Strange? ...Well, I suppose it is strange." Nilia agreed, nodding her head slowly. Akabane. In truth, he seemed familiar to her as well, but it was impossible to place. The Senator's head was swimming with the day's meetings and greetings, and despite her job demanding it, Nilia had never been that good with faces. Either way, it wasn't important; they knew each other now, "The Confederacy are fair allies, any member of them is a friend to me." She seemed genuine about that, the irritation of before replaced by a warm smile on her face, she seemed to recall certain old memories that brought quite a bit of joy. There was an interlude as more tumultuous clouds rolled across Eadu's skies, before Nilia spoke up again, her torso shifting a bit to face more towards her new acquaintance.

"So, you're freelancing as security for now, but... What role do you hold within the Confederacy outside of that? Soldier?"

She agreed that stormwatching was a strange hobby. There really wasn't much to look at besides the storm on this hellhole, so he could see why one might have that hobby. Still, he couldn't sit there and watch a storm for long without getting bored. Thankfully he had something else to look at, someone else. Nilia said any member of the Confederacy is a friend to her. He wasn't sure how to feel about that. "So our friendship is over if I cut my ties with them?" he was only teasing, a half grin on his face. Akabane did wonder though, how would this have went if he had not mentioned the Confederacy?

He continued watching the storms, glancing over at Nilia time to time. Beautiful long black hair, divine brown eyes, an irresistible smile, well-dressed, and the list went on. Akabane felt like the luckiest man alive sitting next to such a cute girl. Working on a rainy hellhole was worth it for this. She asked what his role was within the Confederacy. Akabane shook his head when she asked if he was a soldier. "In a way, you can say I'm a soldier but my official title is Sith Apprentice, and professional troublemaker."

Sith Apprentice? She let that title roll around her brain for a moment, to see if that jogged anything. Unfortunately -- Or, fortunately -- Nilia wasn't well versed in the lore of the Sith and their distinctions. But she smiled at his jokes, shaking her head to his first question, "No, I like to let people stand on their own morals... But being a part of an allied faction certainly helps." Professional troublemaker... Good one.

"You don't look like much trouble to me. Then again, I suppose you very much look like trouble to your enemies." Was the Senator attempting her own joke? It was hard to tell, but the way she beamed indicated that it was intended to be at least a little funny, looking down to her lap then as if maintaining eye-contact had become hard after her mark-missing humour, "So... Sith Apprentice... Sounds important."

Nilia had one of those smiles that was contagious. Akabane was mesmerized for a moment unknowingly, slowly smiling himself. Usually, he wouldn't stare at someone or be affected this much by someone's appearance. Something had to be wrong with him. Weak, you mustn't hurt yourself again. a voice spoke in his head, almost as if it was the Akabane who lost all hope speaking. Obviously, the voice was talking about relationships, he leaned over and looked at the ground with a hand over his mouth while he conversed with himself. I bet you aren't fun at parties... he told the voice. Akabane came out of thought and fixed his posture when Nilia answered the question.

She first said he didn't look like much trouble to her, but then changed her mind when looking from the enemy's perspective. Akabane got a good laugh out of that, funny. "Looks can be deceiving." he smirked, but it changed to a half grin quickly. Nilia was curious about his role in the Confederacy still. Keeping the grin, he wanted to test his luck. He took in a deep breath, released, and nodded. Akabane turned to face Nilia, ready to ask the question but then... his heart beat suddenly picked up speed. Where's my composure? he couldn't explain this sensation. Losing your cool because of a pretty girl? The warrior has fallen I see, he tried to ignore the voice even though it made him angry. Getting angry at a voice seemed foolish to him so he would call down. "I don't think it's that important. Your position as a senator deserves more praise, Miss Saavilin."

Akabane was unable to overcome the anxious feeling, but that didn't stop him from being a troublemaker. He was causing more trouble for himself than anybody else though. "You know, I'd love to share a drink with you some time, maybe dinner?" he paused, Oh my god, what did I just say! It's too early to ask that you dog. he couldn't act normal at all. Akabane's face showed his emotions like an open book, slowly getting red. "Okay first, I apologize for abruptly requesting such a thing. Second, let me explain." he took in another deep breath. "Miss Saavilin, I..." he could only hear his heart beat, still beating petty fast and no words would come out. I can't do this. he turned his head. "So embarrassing... what's gotten into me?" he mumbled while facing away.

You can do this, or has your charming side been lost along with your fiancée? the voice in his head said something nice this time. He grinned fully, some red color still in his face. Okay, we both like our image I see... he truly hated feeling embarrassed. Now it was time to fix things, he cleared his throat before speaking. "I ask because I'm interested in Nilia Saavilin, the senator. And I take it you're curious about Akabane, the apprentice? Learning about eachother is much more enjoyable when eating together... or drinking." he explained himself this time instead of choking.

For a few moments, Nilia appeared to be floundering in a lost silence at everything Aka had said, eventually looking to her lap. Slowly her face turned red too but she knew silence was festering, so she finally looked back up to the Apprentice with a bashful expression and managed an awkward reply, "Oh. Um." Clearing her throat, she finally managed to force out a reply, nodding her head, "That would be lovely, actually. If you'd want to. I'm sure I have room in my schedule."

It was clear by her manner of speech that the Senator was woefully unprepared for this sort of inquiry. Dropping her gaze from him to her lap again, a slightly nervous chuckle left her as she moved to change the subject, exhaling heavily and looking to him once more with a bit more composure, "And, well, Nilia the Senator isn't that interesting, I'm afraid." Another half-hearted laugh, but it seemed she was somewhat serious on that, and indeed, it was fairly true -- What was there to her, outside of politics?

The answer was, not nearly enough.

Akabane regretted his little visit almost instantly when silence fell over them. Well... that wasn't true, he was glad that they met but he seemed to have messed up majorly. This was the most painful thing he'd ever experienced, not even a wound could compare. He kept a red face for awhile, but then she spoke. Akabane slowly turned his head to make eye contact with Nilia. The expression on her face was proof of the mess that he'd created. She said his proposal would be lovely. Wait, what? she was open to the idea, he was shocked. Akabane turned to look out the window again without saying a word.

The redness in his face went away shortly after her answer. He couldn't a remember any times in his past when he got this embarrassed, so he was relieved to lose the tomato face. Nilia appeared to have calmed down as well. What she said next bothered him though, Nilia the Senator wasn't interesting apparently. He sighed and stood up, moving towards the large window. "It's okay if you think that way, Miss Saavilin." he paused for a moment and turned around to face Nilia, a smile on his face. "But whether I think you're interesting or not is up to me, yes?" he said trying to lighten the mood.

He approached Nilia slowly and knelt down on one knee in front of her. Akabane reached for her hand gently, attempting to hold it briefly and place a kiss on it. If successful, and even if she pulled away and slapped him, he'd say something encouraging. "Miss Saavilin, you are a sweet young lady and I bet you wow crowds with your beauty. Those qualities are enough to fascinate me." he would stand up and back up a few steps. "However, I'd love to find out what more there is to you." he continued smiling.
