DESCRIPTION |
The Anaxes-class was designed and developed to provide the Galactic Alliance with the means to batter down shields and crack open the hulls of vessels that were much more heavily armored and shielded than other vessels. To ensure that it was capable of placing its ordnance on target, additional targeting systems and arrays were installed throughout the vessel to provide gunners with the means to increase their accuracy. However, due to its focus on heavier armaments that are known to be particularly volatile, additional defensive measures were taken to protect its payload. These measures can be seen in the increased defensive capabilities such as reinforced hull plating and redundant shield generators that provide the vessel with a means to withstand a prolonged engagement. Though the vessel was designed with heavier defenses, it still has its drawbacks, due in part to the volatile weaponry that it is known to carry and deploy against enemy targets. In the event that the defenses have been breached or a lucky strike is scored on the vessel, there is the potential of a catastrophic reaction that would detonate the ordnance carried onboard, resulting in the vessel being torn apart by its own explosive munitions. Likewise, its payload is limited, and once its ordnance has been expended, these vessels are often moved to the rear of fleet formations to either reload from a supply vessel or provide Anti-Starfighter and Anti-Corvette screens. Additionally, as the vessel's design was primarily focused on an increased capacity of weaponry and the utilized ordnance, the Anaxes-class is known to lack the capacity to field anything beyond a singular squadron of Support Craft. As enemies become more entrenched, and fleets bolster their defensive means, the need to batter down those defenses is become paramount. The Anaxes-class provides an answer, and a potential counter to this issue to overcome the heavier defenses that the Galactic Alliance is likely to encounter in more well-armed and prepared adversaries in the conflicts to come. |
