And I just lost my watch last night

And where were the spiders
Looking at his cards, Marek was definitely a little out of place. How long had it been since he played a game of sabbacc? And without reaching for the Force, because, well, being in the Protectorate space, he was going to do the least he could to make a wrong move and get on the bad side of someone. Though, he was spending money in Triple Nova Casino, so that had to be good for him, right?

It wasn’t like he was spending his entire salary, but he did have a good bit of money going into this from his checks from Haor Chall. Besides, what better way to burn time, and get a feel for the man he was meeting to discuss business for the Techno Union, than a game of chance? Looking over the cards and taking a look at the one known as @[member="Jared Ovmar"], Marek reached forward for his drink. Taking a sip of the Corellian whiskey on ice, he nodded.

“Well, I’ll call.” He wasn't one to typically start running out of the gates with a bluff. Bad juju, really.

His cards were rubbish. A pair of sixes, and a Solo, by the Force who came up with this game. Regardless, it was a good thing Jared was a professional at the game. Hours he had played in the Underworld of Coruscant, the bids were smaller, but for some reason it had meant more to him. Probably because it was all he had then.

What did another thousand credits, or a million mean in his situation? It made him slightly uncomfortable, comparing his current life with his previous one. Still.. some part of him enjoyed all of this.

The thrill. The cash. The Booze... and the women. Oh the women.

“Keep your head with your cards, Jared.”

At any rate, his cards were bad, but his pokerface was excellent and he was not about to be outplayed.

“Raise. Two hundred.”

He threw a couple of chips at the pot, and then took a sip from his appletini. Pretend to be strong, when you are weak. And weak, when you are strong. Wise words to live by.

“So, Marek. How is Techno Union doing?”

There was too much to think about, if he got his minds off his cards. Marek hadn’t really been a casino hopper or sabacc player in his past life, and as such was a bit of a crapshoot at this. He could do games like roulette and craps well, maybe that had to do with the Force? Probably, but here… well, here he was just going to play to burn time, light bets and enjoy himself. That was the best way to go for it, right?

Looking to his cards again, an eight, nine and the Endurance, he was all sorts of fethed, wasn’t he? Still, if Jared was going to play. Marek might as well call. Nodding, he did just that. “Works for me, lets play, huh?” Only a match bet, but really, Marek only gambled with his life.

And even that he wasn’t doing much of lately. Was his opponent drinking an… appletini? Ballsy move, Jared. What was next, a drink with an umbrella in it?

“We’re doin’. Looking to make some expansions and open up some deals to the companies that a brave enough.” He nodded to Mr. Ovmar. “Ready?”

The relationship between the Techno Union and Santhe Corporation was a strange one, technically Santhe Corp. was a founding member of the Union. Maybe not in execution, but certainly in spirit. Before Jared had come on the podium, Santhe Corp had been strongly affiliated with the Galactic Trade Guild. Together they had built a firm foundation, from which both entities had reaped the benefits.

But from there things had gotten muddy, and Jared did not have all the information. It seemed that somehow the GTG had gotten absorbed into the Confederation of Independent Systems, which really did not concern him that much. Such things happened all the time, so worrying about it was irrelevant.

Santhe still had its interests in the CIS space, namely Kamino, and Hypori. So it was important to keep those relationships healthy and on the level.

Still, now with the Techno Union replacing the GTG in spirit, well.. it changed things. It seemed the CIS wished to broaden their influence in the corporate world, a fact that did not really mix well with Jared. But there was little he could really do about that. Apart from trying to start a war, or something.

But war was bad for business, except if you were selling to both sides that is… But no, there were other solutions to these kinds of problems.

For one, you could join the problem, and make it your baby. A possibility Jared was currently exploring with this card game. A game of cards told you a lot about the people you were playing against. And that was really what he was looking for now, Marek seemed a man on the straight and narrows.

But Jared needed to know more. Was this man a leader, or a follower? Would he be easy to manipulate for other goals, or would be stay firm in his convictions? All very good questions. Questions that would be answered soon enough, he wagered.

“Always. What do you have in mind?”
