"It is a strange fate that we should suffer so much fear and doubt over so small a thing. Such a little thing."

- An adjustable spectrum of temporary Force severing and empowerment. On a simple, analog inset dial, clockwise increases the target's Force connection and counterclockwise decreases it.
- A locking mechanism to prevent accidental rotation.
- Can apply a Force severing attack to a target visible through the central circle (i.e. positioned along the symmetrical axis). (Extent of success determined by opposing writer.) In training scenarios, reducing or removing a student's Force connection can have all sorts of value.
- Can increase the Force connection of a target visible through the central circle (i.e. positioned along the symmetrical axis) - again, a valuable training function. This is strictly limited to a single 'grade' of power increase: new initiate to full acolyte, acolyte to knight, knight to lord, and always capped by the strength of the user.
- Can recharge more quickly (a few hours instead of a few days) when on a planet/in a location that's strong in the dark side.
- Is ryvving terrifying.
- Very short range, roughly two or three times farther than lightsaber combat range.
- The effect, even at its greatest, will wear off in two hours or less, and can be cancelled by using an Angakut or a similar ability.
- Cannot be used on yourself.
- Cannot increase target's level of Force power beyond the level of the user. (I.e. no handing it off to your slave and telling them to power you up.)
- Generally takes days to 'reload.'
- Can't be used by lightsiders, though it can certainly target them.
- Damage the amulet, and the effect will end immediately.
- Force Light will suppress the effect and could destroy the amulet.
- Ysalamiri and void stone will cancel the effect.
Force severing and enhancing Force sensitivity are, to Ashin's mind, two sides of the same coin or two ends of the same spectrum. Therefore she and some of her alchemist associates created a dial that runs along that spectrum. They created this powerful, specialized Sith amulet as a unique and multifaceted training tool.
The Angakut takes the form of a dual, concentric, rotating ring. Reasonable pressure is required to make the ring rotate, and there is a small but sturdy locking mechanism to keep it from rotating at all: this isn't the kind of thing you'd want to go off accidentally. The amulet is often worn as a necklace. Wearing it as a ring is not recommended, for safety and comfort alike. However, more than one Sith Lord has worn it on the index finger and activated it with strong, precise thumb pressure. This usage, like all usage, requires the ring's symmetrical axis to be pointed at the target (as if you could see the target through the ring if you removed your finger).
At one point, an alchemist discovered that twisting the Angakut's central circle back and forth rapidly could make a target's Force sensitivity fluctuate wildly - significant power in one moment, significant weakness the next. This usage is, again, not recommended, largely because a canny target will save quick attacks for moments when their power spikes to rival yours, and then you're hooped.
