Anij grew up on the Hutt-controlled world of Sleheyron. Very little is known about her early childhood beyond living in extreme poverty with a single father and two siblings. Every year her world conducted a gladiatorial competition in which districts selected a fighter to participate in what was almost certain death. At the age of 16 her father was involved in a very public murder and she was in turn chosen to represent her district in the Sleheyron games. Anij was obviously devastated and outraged over why she was chosen, but she never showed her true feelings to the public. In light of having virtually no combat nor survival skills, Anij was not expected to last long in the nearly two week long competition. Unbeknownst to the public, Anij's near photographic memory and awareness of her competitors was the edge she used to win. Not only did she manage to outlast her competitors but she racked up one of the highest kill counts in recent memory, earning her the unofficial title of Lady of Flame. This however came at great cost, as Anij suffered a mental break and developed a second personality referred to as Fanchon.
Fanchon had gone dormant as Anij was finally allowed to escape the horrors of the games, although her life didn't improve since. After disowning her father and trying to live in peace with her siblings, Sleheyron's (then) Hutt overlord demanded Anij to perform sexual favors in light of her newfound popularity. She refused and in short order the Hutt ordered that her siblings pay the price for her disobedience. Anij was devastated over losing her entire family but no longer had anything left to lose. In the coming decade rebellion began to arise on Sleheyron and the oppressed chose for Anij to lead them. At first she rejected the notion, wanting only to live in peace; but an assassination attempt made her realize the only peace she could hope for was to free Sleheyron from Hutt control.
The course of the rebellion was completely changed by Anij's brilliant leadership and charisma. Her tragic story and dedication to freeing Sleheyron lead to a planet-wide revolution. Unfortunately the Hutts couldn't allow a planet to escape their control. While Sleheyron wasn't worth the effort to maintain, its liberation would instigate further rebellion on other worlds. To avoid a sustained war that neither side could hope to win, Faso the Hutt extended an offer to Anij: If she agreed to become his personal slave, he would allow Sleheyron to have its independence. Anij didn't believe for a moment the offer to be sincere, but Faso had laid out an elaborate plan that would allow for the Sleheyron revolution to be contained and make it appear that she died valiantly for the cause.
How exactly this deal happened isn't entirely known, but Anij did agree to the terms and to give him a lifetime of servitude. She did this partly in the hope of influencing Faso to curb his more violent tendencies and extend her influence throughout his empire, although she had essentially given her life and body to the Hutt. She continued this practice over the next 40 years, slowly building up her power and influence from the shadows. Anij however had stopped aging due to her unknown Force sensitivity.
