Behind the hull plating, marines are active at work, guarding the various medical crew and their patients.
[Access is limited to Alliance Personnel, and Allied Refugees on most occasions. Although, special cases may call for the care of one fitting none of the previous descriptions] - Description: The ANV Solace, on the outside, delivers the feeling of security and hope, at least to those Alliance personnel aware of its reputation. Decorated with an extravagantly designed Alliance Starbird on its ventral hull, and a darker blue color scheme compared to its counterparts in the Samaritan class, the Solace can be easily identified without the need of transponder signals and other systems.
On the inside, the Solace provides spacious, but simple corridors that weave around the inner-deck structure. Further in, these lead to the expansive medical suites, rows of hospital beds, and various compartments devoted to being trauma wards, and other special-use functions. Though, the closer to the vessel's bridge one gets, the more military and spartan the sights begin to seem.
Main Hospital(Sickbay):
Located at around the halfway mark of the hanger's spine, and continuing to flow toward the vessel's stern, is an expansive network of various medical facilities, each day bustling with the activity of doctors and nurses tending to the sick and wounded, to the sights of deckhands restocking important supplies.
The primary medical ward, equipped to handle rapid emergencies, consists of a complement of hospital beds, neatly lined against each wall and with seven-foot spaces separating each-- to make room for the various medical equipment. Further in is a specialized trauma bay, consisting of a small amount of isolated rooms, designed to facilitate advanced surgery, and various other serious treatments. Meanwhile, supply storage is not so far off, appearing as a large storeroom for a complement of repulsor-stretchers, scanning equipment, and more.
The Chief Medical Officer's office sits nestled into a wall of the primary ward, providing the current CMO quick access to the various patients and staff.
Main Hanger:
Taking up much of the Solace's bow(as it would on the Core Imperial Confederation's Venator-class attack cruisers that the medical cruiser has been built from), the main hanger provides quick deployment and retrieval of various shuttlecraft, allowing the swift delivering of patients to the medical bays. The large room consists of two rows of shielded entrances to the fighter storage facility, flanking the longer flight deck at the center. Unlike its Venator design-counterpart, however, most medical refits(including the Solace) provide a quickly-accessible conveyor-assisted path that facilitates even faster transportation to the medical suites.
The Bridge(C.I.C)(Combat Information Center):
Located in the vessel's starboard command deck superstructure is the brain and central nervous system of the entire Solace. Staring through arrayed viewports into what lays ahead, and augmented by various scanner systems across the vessel's surfaces, the bridge crew is allowed to steer the cruiser and otherwise coordinate shipboard operations.
Once walking into the C.I.C, blue-tinted lights begin to leap at one's senses, from the central holotable at the head of the main entrance, and from the grids of control consoles and holographic displays that flank it. A wide walkway stares down the center of it all, as well as being flanked by a pair of smaller crew pits for purposes of scanning, and various other coordination duties.
[Note: Unless a location(aboard the Solace) is specifically described, depiction is left to a writer's interpretation]
Security:
- Internal Security: High - Supported by six platoons of Alliance Marines.
- External Security: Medium - Vulnerable to attack from below, although escort ships usually make up for this deficiency
Historical Information:
With the fall of the Core Imperial Confederation, the former HMIS Pilgrim would find itself and its sister ships on the way to be scrapped; Although, these plans would be cancelled with the Federal Cooperative's acquisitions of the line, and the coming refits.
Eventually, the Pilgrim would find its place in the ranks of the Galactic Alliance and its navy, now rechristened as the ANV Solace. The vessel's service life in the Alliance, however, would start unremarkable. Occasionally, the Solace found itself cleaning up after the remnants of distant battles, simply serving as a hospital ship to be dispatched when all was clear of danger. But this menial role would take a sharp turn in due time.
With the climactic Annihilation of Csilla, the Alliance fleet and its allies were left in ruins, many devastated by the Mercy superweapon, many more vessels simply crippled under the fire of Brotherhood starships.
Rather than waiting, as Csilla itself fell victim to the explosion collision with Mercy, and potentially endangering the allied survivors, the decision was made to send the Solace to rescue everyone it could. Deckhands, officers, and doctors alike rushed to clear cargo bays and any space they could manage, thereby increasing their medical capacity by just less than a factor of two. Meanwhile, transports flew from the hangers and back to collect escape pods and the survivors from now derelict ships.
After that fateful incident, the Solace would gain a new reputation, especially amongst those it rescued, as a sign of hope and salvation. And upon these realizations, the Samaritan line received a doctrine change, providing a consistent escort group to allow such vessels to quickly extract the wounded from whatever situation they found themselves in.
Although its sister ships would adopt his doctrine, and would each take a role in various battles and rescue missions, None would truly match the accomplishments and distinction of the ANV Solace.
[Early Change Log:
-Corrected original (Core Imperial Confederation) ship prefix to HMIS
-Added Battlegroup Andor Affiliation]
