The goal would be to join a Sith faction, work hard as an apprentice, and then eventually become a lord in his own right.

Ok a fairly basic overall concept. Do you have a preferred role to achieve that goal? For example Vengeance here is a Battlefield Sith. Join the battle, overwhelm the enemy, and secure victory.
Some people like to be Sorcerers dealing in really awesome dark magics. Others are Alchemists making dark artifacts.
Other option is the pure Knowledge route of those wanting to learn every deep dark secret of the Force.
A personal favorite of mine is also the Inquisitor. A hunter of man and Myth.

That Vengeance could help with if you are interested.
Why don't you set something up on Bastion and let's see how this goes. If nothing else the Ascendancy has several other options if not Vengeance to achieve what you are looking for.
