STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES (Required: 2 Weaknesses Minimum) :
Strengths:
Anya is such a slight girl that it seems as though a stiff breeze would blow her away. She has wispy blonde hair, and big blue eyes set in a face that still has much of the roundness of youth. Usually she is extremely serious, partly in an effort to appear older than she is and partly because she is rather awkward and uncomfortable around others. Her clothes tend towards simple robes and dresses.
BIOGRAPHY:
Many planets often have small tribes living in the wilderness, away from the trappings of civilisation. Anya was born into one such tribe, amongst the mountains of Varonat, far away from the small human colonies and even away from some of the most basic technology. The tribesmen were descended from humans who had survived the plague all those years ago, who had fled the colonies and those who were dying there. Now only folk tales remained, for this tribe had not left the mountains since.
Anya's mother died in childbirth and her father, saddened and weakened by the loss of his beloved wife, followed soon after. The leader of the tribe, and Anya's uncle, took the baby in and raised her as his own.
At an early age it was clear that Anya was different to her cousins, and indeed to the rest of the children in the small encampment. She would at times pick up a toy and begin laughing hysterically; at other times, another object would reduce her to hysterical tears. Patient questioning by her uncle, Orlaf, revealed that the young girl believed the objects were 'telling stories' - some of which were frightening to the poor child. Orlaf, and the rest of the tribe, came to believe that Anya had the ability to see the truth, merely by touching something - or someone.
Orlaf saw the value of this to the tribe and removed Anya from the general chaos of the family, secluding her in a tent of her own. He provided her with gloves, to protect her from an onslaught of images, until she was old enough to fill the role he had in mind for her. Anya was protected from most of the other members of the tribe and almost overnight became something of a legend amongst them.
On her tenth birthday Anya was named the Arbiter, she who saw truth and delivered justice. From that point on, if a crime was committed, the evidence was presented to Anya, who at a touch could tell what had occurred and who the guilty party was. Faced with this, crime amongst the tribe almost completely died out - for who would be foolish enough to try and conceal anything from the Arbiter?
Anya has since begun to fulfil a different role for the tribe, that of a spiritual leader. However her own spirit is troubled. Over the past year her dreams have been filled with odd visions, of floating jewels in a black sky and metal birds that allow humans to fly. Having never seen a ship, let alone been off the planet, Anya has no name for these images; only a deep feeling of unease about them. She has taken to painting the most recurrent or frightening images, as if hoping that pinning them down this way will remove them from her dreams; but this has not worked, and Anya knows that the world outside will soon destroy their way of life.
