Many an advancement has sprung from necessity, many more from the minds of those bold enough to seek answers first and ask forgiveness later. Those learned few who make up Apex's ranks know this to be true, just as surely as they know that most will never understand - narrow minds and inane taboos are all too able to slow the wheels of progress to a grinding halt, even before conflicts of religion and ideology are taken into account.
It is evident, then, that the best hope for advancement comes from casting off the shackles of broader society for the company of worthy peers.
RATIONALE
The Apex Research Collective is a secretive society of boundary-pushing academics drawn from Globex's Special Projects Division, reeled in from the tumultuous waters left by the collapse of the Tenth Sith Empire, and headhunted from corporate and state-sponsored institutions with far too many boundaries and far too little ambition. Their specialities are as diverse as their backgrounds, but all are ingenious in their own ways.
Mediocrity is absent from their sterile halls, where the best and brightest work side by side to create wonders, horrors, and terrible mistakes.
