Appointed, Not Elected (Lady Silencia)

Kuat. As Alena's father had constantly said, that in the case of the planet Kuat, what mattered was not the actual planet, but it's shipyard. The Kuat Drive Yards was everything. It gave the planet its power both politically and economically. And naturally, whoever was in control of its shipyard was in control of Kuat. And now, the CEO of Kuat Drive Yards was now Kuat's monarch.

Alena smirked as she walked through the shipyard ring surrounding the planet. She was here to continue her father's legacy, and further her political career. She was already the elected representative of a province on the planet, which had began her political career. Being on the council gave lots of benefits, which included rather high salaries. The only way she could get higher politically from her current position would be to become selected, not elected as things turned out to be.

The Queen of Kuat had wanted to see her. That had given Alena a good enough reason to buy herself the most extravagant dress she could afford. She had seen and learned that the Queen could easily ruin or promote her career, whichever she wanted to do. As Alena approached the CEO and queen's office, she let out a breath to calm herself, then went in after knocking.

The grand chamber that was the CEO's office could be described as tastefully opulent with its polished black tile floor, red banners, tapestries and priceless works of art adorning the walls. It was a massive room where one's footsteps and words echoed were they too sharp or loud. There at the center sat the long Council table with its thirteen chairs - something wholly familiar to Alena after her time spent serving on it. She might glance at her own chair, if perhaps out of some form of pride that it was certainly her own, and notice that her nameplate was missing.

"Councilor Beswin," Queen Lorelei looked up briefly from a pile of datapads on her desk and glanced at the woman over a pair of half-moon spectacles. She smiled primly, taking in the appearance of what happened to be a brand new, finely detailed and tailored dress, "What a lovely ensemble."

Those green eyes did not leave the face of the woman as she leaned to utter something to her Assistant, DiVanca, who nodded and promptly strode off along the side of the room then out through the same doors which Alena had just entered.

"Have a seat," Lorelei beckoned gently with a hand towards the cushioned chairs set before her desk, "we have some issues to discuss."

Alena began worrying when she first noticed that her nameplate was missing from her chair at the council table. Feth. She however, made sure no suprised look came across her face, and gave the queen a respectful bow before walking further into the room. What had happened? Alena's mind raced around, her thoughts shifting to possible events that could've occured that damaged her reputation. Nothing really came into her mind.

"Councilor Beswin," began the Queen of Kuat. Interesting, Alena noted that the queen was still referring to her a councilor. "What a lovely ensemble." Alena gave the queen a thankful smile. "Thank you, your highness." she said, although feeling plenty worried about what would come next. "Have a seat, we have some issues to discuss." Following the monarch's hand motion, Alena moved forward and took a seat infront of one of the cushioned chairs facing her desk.

"What issues shall we discuss, your majesty?" she asked respectively, feeling somewhat anxious.

The Queen's gaze followed Alena's progress across the broad expanse of the chamber, studying her with great intensity. This did not relent until the Councilor had seated herself before the desk. Lorelei, easing back into her own chair, gave the barest hint of satisfaction as she pulled her glasses from her face, folded them closed and delicately set them upon the glass surface of the bureau. Silence rang supreme for several moments longer while the Queen took up a datapad from her left and gave the text on the screen a cursory glance. Alena would catch a glimpse of her own image on the file.

"The first," she began, "is that of your seat on the Council. You have served on it for several years and have done a very good job of filling the rather large shoes your father left behind following his retirement. For certain he must be immensely proud. Sadly, I'm afraid, all good things must come to an end. I've no further need of your skills on this Council."

The Queen discarded Alena's file in a pile to her right as she took up another from her left, one not immediately visible to the now Ex-Councilor, "You are being replaced by a Miss Damalia Kismet, your runner-up in the Provence elections, effective immediately." Again that piercing green gaze settled mercilessly upon Alena, probing the woman for all the minute signs of distress and emotional turmoil. It occurred to the empath, who was already fully aware of the woman's anxiety, that there was a far gentler way to break this news. Yet old habits die hard and Alena's reaction was paramount to her final decision on what was to come.

From what it appeared, the Queen of Kuat seemed to have put an end to Alena's political career. What had she done wrong? Alena had no idea. Her carrer as a councilor representing her district had been marked with several noteworthy accomplishments, and she was doing fine according to recent polls. As the reality was, however, if a queen wanted her out of the council, that would be so, effective immiediately.

"I've no further need of your skills on this Council... You are being replaced by a Miss Damalia Kismet, your runner-up in the Provence elections, effective immediately." Alena opened her mouth to speak, then closed her mouth when words failed her. There had to be a logical reason behind this, she thought. "Oh..." she said quietly after a while, glancing up at the monarch and her datapad.

"uh... what other issues shall we discuss, your highness?" she asked weakly.

Eyes narrowing on Alena, the Queen placed the datapad in her hand down on the desk, holding it there at her fingertips, "The second issue is the recent resignation of Kuati Senator Devra Winji - an event that has not yet reached the insidious ears of the media," Lorelei spun the datapad around and pushed it towards the ex-Councilor. Devra's file was just as complete and just as honorable as her own, save the large red letters at the bottom dating her resignation.

"In light of the fiasco brought about by Mr. Brunswick it is of absolute necessity that Kuat maintains a constant and strong presence within the Republic. As such, I've decided to forgo a full Council meeting to deliberate the replacement of Miss Winji. We simply cannot afford to lose traction, especially considering the more recent actions of the Republic regarding alliances of questionable factions."

The Queen folded her hands on the desk, landing Alena with a very pointed stare, "I have chosen you as Miss Winji's successor."

What came next was quite unexpected. Alena had known about Devra Winji being the senator, but she had not known that the woman was retiring from her job as the Senator of Kuat. Winji had been the best possible replacement for the lunatic that came before, and it was unfortunate to hear that she was resigning. Alena looked down at the datapad, which displayed the resigning senator's data.

Interesting, it also seemed as though that the Queen had decided not to bother with a full council meeting to choose a successor. Even at that point, Alena wasn't sure how that concerned her. From what she had been told before, Alena wasn't even part of the council anymore.

"I have chosen you as Miss Winji's successor." Alena blinked for a few seconds, and the reality hit her. The queen had chosen her to become Kuat's new senator! She immiediately gave the queen a bow. "I am honored, my queen. I promise that I shall not disappoint you.." she said, fighting to keep a delighted smile from spreading across her face. "...what are your views on current Republic politics, your highness?" she asked.

The Queen gave a pleased smile, brows raising with bemusement at Alena's query.

"My view of the Republic is much the same now as it was when we first came under their banner - grave disappointment. It is a governing system based upon dated methods that have proven time and again not to work. Be that as it may, I maintain hope for improvement, and that is why I am happy to be sending one of the best and brightest to represent Kuat. Be a voice of reason, a scion of tact and intelligence, and above all stand for what you believe in."

"I will expect regular reports from you on any changes within the Senate and any other motions within the Republic of note. Remember who you represent, Miss Beswin, and be proud of your heritage. This is my direct link," the Queen passed a Comm across the desk to Alena, "upon which you may reach me at any time. If you are ever uncertain of anything it's always best to ask."

After recieving the comm link, Alena gave one last thankful smile before standing up and giving the queen a grateful bow.

"Thank you, your highness. You shall not be disappointed."

"Let us hope not," the Queen replied with a smile of poisoned honey, "My Assistant DiVanca has all the pertinent paperwork for you to sign and read over, including everything Miss Winji was working on before resigning. If anything is missing, DiVanca will find it for you. Good luck, Miss Beswin, you may go."

OOC - No need to RP out the nitty-gritty seeing as how you're already active within the Senate. Let me know if there are any other plots of threads you'd like to get started up. :)
