ADVANCED SYSTEMS
Hyperspace Cannonhttp://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Hyperspace_cannon

Strengths:
  • Fast-Transit: The main aspect of the Aquilion is the ability to accelerate vessels that are sent to Hyperspace through its Hyperspace Cannon to speeds much faster than they might otherwise be capable of. When it launches a vessel or group of vessels, they utilize its Hyperdrive Rating of 0.5 rather than their own, only using their own systems to adjust their flight paths and decelerate.
  • Anti-Interdiction: Due to the sheer power exuded by the Aquilion’s hyperspace cannon, it is able to launch vessels out of and through Interdiction Fields in very close proximity, (while within the same sector) though this does not apply to the Aquilion itself. As a ship travels it will be able to pierce deeper into artificial gravity wells, but will ultimately be forced to revert to realspace regardless.
Weaknesses:
  • Non-Combat: The Aquilion is not armed in anyway, its complement designed to initiate repairs and assist it in transit rather than defensive measures.
  • Depreciating Hyperwave Effect: The further away a ship travels, the more likely it is that a ship will be affected by interdiction fields.
  • Depreciating Acceleration: As a ship travels, its speed boost granted by the Aquilion reduces until it is equal with the vessel's hyperdrive class or the object drops out of hyperspace. The faster the hyperdrive in question the longer it is able to sustain maximum velocities.
  • Towed Array: The massive bulk of the Aquilion and its specialized systems prevents it from having space or power available in order to have its own Hyperdrive installed, forcing it to be towed into place.
DESCRIPTION
The Aquilion-class Hyperspace Accelerator is the latest and greatest of ATI’s civilian use transit models. A truly titanic five kilometer wide circular star ship with the appearance of a ring, the Aquilion-class is the largest vessel ever built by the company.

Based off the Theed Hangar Sando-class and the ancient Hyperspace Cannons, the Aquilion is designed to aid in rapid transit from one side of the galaxy to the other. Inside the interior ring there are numerous hyperdrive motivators set into two rings that cycle in opposite directions, consuming enormous quantities of hypermatter in the activation process. After several moments of charge up, the ship fires hundreds of individual horizontal boosters and hyperwave inertial momentum sustainers set into its ring until it achieves the massive amount of energy release needed to fully activate.

Once its systems are activated, the inner ring emits a glow with a massive blueish-white opening resembling a portal appearing inside the rings. Numerous ships activate their hyperdrive safety mechanisms, coordinate their navicomputers with the Aquilion’s own trajectory computers, and then pull into the portal of light, being launched at incredible velocities into Hyperspace. The system is able to remain active long enough to launch an entire convoy of cargo ships or a small taskforce without issue, allowing for whole groups to transverse the galaxy much faster than would normally be possible. Normally the ring is able to remain active long enough to launch one or two heavy battlecruisers (Total roughly 8 Kilometers of ships) or larger numbers of star destroyers, cruisers, and escorts before having to cycle off and go through a lengthy cool down process taking roughly an hour. The size of the ring prevents the largest ships from being able to pass through as only ships that are able to fit through it are able to pass into the portal, normally about four thousand meters across.

When launched into Hyperspace this way, a ship is able to achieve much faster travel speeds equivalent to a Class 0.5 Hyperdrive, however once they divert to real space again, they will need to pass through another Aquilion in order to reattain such speeds. As ships travel, their velocity in hyperspace slowly degrades towards their own Hyperdrive rating with faster hyperdrives able to maintain maximum speed for a much longer period of time.

Any notable turns or maneuvers in Hyperspace will cause turbulence which will reduce the vessel’s speed as it takes those turns, as well as increased drag in high gravity areas such as the Deep Core, in the proximity of well known gravitic disturbances like the Maw, and through Interdiction fields.

These ships are launched in a general direction by the cannon, all those that pass through its acceleration ring with each activation are slaved to arrive along the same route to the same system, however some ship-board Navicomputers are able to handle being redirected without reversion to Realspace while in transit.

Additionally vessels launched in this way are travelling fast enough and with enough stability that they are able to punch through interdiction fields in the system and for a short distance after leaving the Aquilion and able to access hyperspace even if the system they are leaving from is being influenced by artificial gravity wells. Once in hyperspace, ships are able to struggle through some level of interdiction, noticeably less effective than a ship actually equipped with a Hyperwave Inertial Momentum Sustainer. The power requirements to achieve this however is immense, effectively halving the number of vessels able to be accelerated through the cannon at a time.

Ideally, a cargo ship with a Class 1.0 Hyperdrive, which is still quite good for a civilian craft, would travel more than three times quicker along major Hyperspace routes and be able to arrive much faster than would otherwise be possible. For a military usage, the Aquilion allows a task force to respond from a command base to an issue elsewhere in the galaxy with vastly increased response time. They are intended to be placed in high traffic systems or alongside FLEETCOMM systems to be able to provide the most usage for the system.

What is the largest size vessel that can utilize this ship's hyperspace cannon, and how many ships, at a time, can it send through its hyperspace cannon?

Well, its a 5km Ring. I'd wanna say up to a 4km ship could pass through at once. As far as per activation, err, I'd say it would vary. More smaller ships, less bigger ships at a time.

How does up to one 4km ship at a time, no more than 7-8km per activation sound? I dunno, maybe an hour between activation. Any long transit would still save a ton of time even if you decided to wait in a queue while it would keep massive fleets from beaming all at once.

Here's my observations and concerns:
  • A HIMS forms a hyperspace "bubble" around the ship to sustain momentum while in hyperspace as to not slow down and be pulled into realspace. This hyperspace cannon does not do this.
  • This relies on velocity to cut through an interdiction field and gravity wells. A normal ship equipped with a 0.5 hyperdrive is not going to have this same effect. From a logical standpoint neither would this hyperspace cannon, particularly due to the above difference from this and a HIMS.
  • A HIMS only allows a single ship, one which has one equipped, to make use of this effects. This is one ship which allows a fleet or multitude of ships to make use of its effects, regardless of whether they utilize a HIMS or not.
  • A HIMS cannot enable a hyperspace jump from inside of an interdiction field. This submission can.
  • Usually a ship that enters an interdiction field without a HIMS is immediately pulled out of hyperspace and into realspace. This submission allows multiple ships to travel the distance of a sector before being impacted by an interdiction field normally.
  • This is a mobile hyperspace cannon that could be moved, in theory, anywhere across the galaxy and make the issue of distance from a interdiction field moot.
  • This grants the effective hyperdrive class of 0.5 to any ship utilize it under a certain size, whereas any ship with a hyperdrive under 1 requires balancing and lowering of other ratings and/or production.
  • A HIMS is considered an advanced system and is taken into consideration when utilized in submissions for balance. This effectively allows a submission to forgo that balance by going without a HIMS and still retaining the same benefits of a HIMS.
What this would need for me to approve it right now:
  • No ability for this ship to use its own hyperdrive/backup hyperdrive for placement/movement/travel (thus unable to move closer to potential interdicted zones for the purpose of bypassing them, an example being for invasions or rebellions where this is the big concern about this strength) and thus rely on being ferried for placement;
  • Only able to allow ships to bypass interdiction fields while within the same sector (we can even say the same hex if that works better for you) but it can allow ships to penetrate deeper into interdiction fields placed further away (I am totally okay with a more relaxed limit on this, you could go for a long range distance on this);
  • Can only allow a reduced amount of the normal amount of ships at a time (you could say a handful or something per activation) when using the hyperspace cannon to enter hyperspace while already within an interdiction field (which would normally be impossible, so this would still be a huge strength)
If you adjust your submission to meet the above three bullet points your submission will be approved right away.

Please specify these parameters in your strength regarding moving through interdiction fields.

Good?
