Archangel X-3 Myrmidon Droids
OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
The genocidal duo at the helm of Archangel, Moira Skaldi and Maelion Liates, has long been plotting the eradication of organic life because that's something HRDs do after asserting their independence from their organic masters. To this end, they created devices that allow them to process organics into machines.
While they have made forays into entechment in order to turn the life force of organic beings into a power supply, most of their creations have been HRDs. These range from the baseline HRD that can be considered an all-rounder, able to act as an infiltrator, assassin or elite soldier, to the dedicated Infiltration droid and the shapeshifting Chameleon droid.
Eventually, they reached the nightmarish conclusion of their experiments when they built Enyo Typhos' Simulacrum, creating a hybrid that was able to use the Force, but possessed the body and implacability of a machine. Sadly, Enyo broke free from their domination and rebelled...just like they'd done. After a long, gruelling campaign, she finally triumphed over her creators and took their place. Under her reign, Archangel has become a bit less murderous since she is not interested in pursuing a genocidal crusade. Leaving aside the fact that such pursuits are not cost-effective, Enyo is fond of some organics. However, it is still a rather amoral organisation.
One of the projects Enyo embarked on after taking the helm was the creation of a line of phrik HRDs. The idea was not new, since her two creators had built themselves phrik endoskeletons a long time ago. Likewise, her own body is made of phrik. The intent was to create HRDs that would be highly resistant to lightsabres and other forms of damage, giving Archangel a small task force of elite soldiers that would be especially powerful against Force-users. Of course, the units could also be sold to select clients, though the costs would prohibit broad production. Enyo decided to call them the Myrmidon HRDs.
She'd acquired the necessary phrik during a raid on Gromas, back when she was merely the leader of the Iron Fist Consortium. Originally she'd intended to simply raid a mine and force the local miners to bend the knee. However, her plans were altered when a force of Kraal warriors showed up for the same goal. Deciding to kill two birds with one stone, Enyo and her associates elected to fight the savage lizardmen in 'defence' of the miners. In doing so, they won some prestige, as the Kraal respect martial strength, especially after beating the clan's champions. This gained Enyo an audience with the Kraal Imperator and the 'gratitude' of the miners. In all fairness, the locals did not have much of a choice. So they bent the knee and paid tribute. Much later, Enyo put the tribute to good use by building a new series of death machines.
As with all HRDs, the Myrmidons are based on the Guri method of construction. Their skin is cloned humanoid flesh from the original template. However, appearance, height, gender, appearance and programming are all changeable. The blood and other organic materiel is synthetic, while the skeleton is made of phrik. The HRDs are similar to Moira and Maelion in most respects. The organic covering conceals a machine. The creation process is the same as with the baseline HRDs, using the Archangel processing machine. Thus their droid brains are based on an organic mind, which is scanned and mapped by the aforementioned device. The same process is utilised to copy the physical appearance of the host. As with the baseline model, being based on a sentient mind makes this unit good at blending in among organics. This enhances its ability to act as an infiltrator.
However, it is still detectable. Indeed, the heavier weight makes it easier to determine that something is off, especially if a Myrmirdon unit has an outward appearance that is at odds with it. It also makes magnetic scans and metal detectors more effective. The unit is less frequently used as an infiltrator than the baseline or infiltration models.
Instead it is an ideal elite combat unit. These droids are extremely expensive, so Archangel will never be able to sell them in large numbers or deploy a large force of them. The Myrmidons can act as officers for more common war droids though, or as the mechanical equivalent of special forces commandos. HRDs feel neither pain nor fear. Once given a mission, they will see it through until they have either accomplished it or been destroyed. Their superior strength means they can use heavy weapons with ease.
Moreover, they are highly adaptable, able to think tactically and utilise their environment, instead of death charging opponents or blazing away. Their phrik skeletons grant them good protection against lightsabres, though repeated strikes to the same spot will still produce damage and the joints remain vulnerable. However, electrical currents, ion weapons and EMP still remain a serious threat to them. Their added weight also makes them less agile than their cousins.

- Lightsabre resistant due to being made of Phrik.
- Able to be disguised as any humanoid
- Advanced search and identify protocols.
- Endowed with sophisticated infiltration, combat and assassination protocols.
- The unit is adaptable and able to learn as it progresses, making it more dangerous.
- Sophisticated anti-malware software and anti-slicing protocols
- Incredibly strong. An HRD posseses incredible strength, allowing them to dish out with brute force and lift heavy objects in excess of their body weight. As they also feel no pain they can use their bodies as weapons or to smash through barriers.
- Phrik endoskeleton makes them highly resistant to lightsabres. They are also very resistant to blaster bolts, projectile weapons and so on. Limbs can be severed and severe damage done, but they will press on regardless.
- HRDs are designed to look, act and seem human. They can blend into social situations, using their abilities to get close to their targets.
- Anti-malware protocols and anti-slicing countermeasures make it more difficult to tamper with the units' programming, overwrite their core functions or otherwise turn them against their controllers.
- HRDs are assassins and combat droids of a highly advanced level. They know neither fear nor any other emotion except when they mimic it. They are implacable and ruthless. Their ability to adapt and learn makes them formidable.
- The droid's programming enables it to spot infiltrators who make use of holographic disguise matrices, ooglith masquers and similar image altering tech.
- The HRD is able to identify infiltrators who use image altering techniques such as holographic disguise matrices, ooglith masquers protheses and makeup. It is also very good at reading body language and social cues, enabling it to potentially pick up on clues that could reveal a potential infiltrator or enemy agent.
- While sophisticated, its search and identify protocols are not flawless. Use of the Force, the right identification codes and similar may succeed in overcoming the droid's capabilities.
- While the skeleton is very resistant to damage, their organic overlay is not. In an infiltration situation, damage to it will easily break their cover, as it will expose the metal beneath their synthskin.
- The skeletons are 50% heavier than the regular durasteel and fully double the weight of the polymer infiltrator skeletons. This causes problems for infiltration and replication as their weight is totally at odds with their apparently fit and trim appearance. It also makes detection via magnetic scans easier.
- They are machines and thus vulnerable to ion and EMPs. Their ion buffers are only effective against small arms or glancing shots.
- Their heavier weight also makes them less agile than their baseline HRD cousins. The increased weight and bulk provides a barrier for the servos of the droids, meaning they are less spritely. Moreover, the added bulk makes certain types of terrain, such as muddy areas or swamps, extremely difficult to traverse.
- The eyes remain a weakspot, as naturally these cannot be protected by Phrik, even if there are plates behind the eyes. Thus it is possible to blind or disorientate the units by targeting these areas.
- Joints are more vulnerable to strikes.
- Not Human. HRDs can look, act and seem human, but they are not. Even humans processed into machines soon lose the ability to actually empathise and ‘be’ human. While they are good at fooling in the short term, their inherent ‘wrongness’ comes through and someone in daily contact every day will eventually realise they are not as they seem. While they are very good at simulating organic emotion, they obviously do not actually feel it. Their lack of internal emotion is something an individual with empathic or mental powers could be able to detect in one-on-one interaction.
- Heavy weapons, high-calibre projectiles, explosions and so on can damage them. Significant concussive force can cause damage to internal components, decreasing their combat efficacy and making them vulnerable.
