- Dart: Owing to a favorable thrust-to-mass ratio, the Archer is able to accelerate and maneuver at great speeds.
- Difficult Target: The corvette presents a rather slim targeting profile and otherwise is quite capable of evading most anti-capital gun emplacements.
- Atmospheric Capable: The Archer can fly over and land on a planet’s surface, whether to deploy troops or to provide air support to friendly units.
- Point Defense Coverage: The placement of the Archer’s autocannon emplacements restricts its defensive firing arcs to sections directly to port and starboard, in addition to anything above the corvette; the vessel is left with a noticeable ventral blind spot.
- Durability: Much like its Aurora-class Predecessor, the Archer presents little in the way of heavy armoring should a well-aimed round make it past the corvette’s shields.
- Forward-Fixed Ion Cannon: The Archer must constantly reorient itself to target another vessel with its main ion cannon.
- Reliance on Limited Munitions: Aside from a forward-fixed ion cannon emplacement, the Archer relies on a limited supply of missiles and autocannon ammunition.
Designed as a cheaper and more accessible alternative to PhoenixDrive’s Aurora-class Destroyer, the Archer-class presents a significantly smaller silhouette and significantly less overcomplicated interior at only 106 meters from stem to stern. Like its predecessor, the Archer’s major assets are its speed– which even tends to surpass the Aurora’s own maximum velocity– and its point defense grid. Though limited in their firing arcs by the surrounding spaceframe, the vessel’s two Ph-30 Autocannons can quickly be made to cover a wide area around the Archer when employed in tandem with a roll on the corvette’s central axis.
Archer-class vessels typically adopt less aggressive roles than those of the Aurora-class, with the corvettes not designed to survive direct engagements with the capital ships the Auroras are most often pitted against. An Archer corvette may be seen closely guarding larger allied vessels through the employment of its autocannons, or providing more direct fire support through the use of missiles and its integrated ion cannon. Vessels of the class may at times be employed as atmospheric enforcement or planetary assault craft, owing to the atmospheric capabilities of their spaceframes. Others may be used as law enforcement cruisers, sent to round up raiders within small wolfpacks or in complete solitude.
