Ardon
Character
The implant is not visible without peeling away the synthetic skin.
OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
The implant was a somewhat rushed job by a cyberneticist on a frontier world Ardon was trying to help. After his ship was shot down Ardon suffered a serious injury. The only person available who knew enough to help was a cyberneticist, and that cyberneticist had unfortunately less than the best technology available. He helped Ardon as best he could using some droid parts and the equipment he had available, attempting to repair, or replace, the part of the brain that Ardon had damaged. While the implant did work with incoming information just fine, it lacked the complexities it should for proper communication. This meant that Ardon was left only able to speak in a very specific fashion.
Due to the damage he also has issues with recognizing verbal inflection cues. If he has context he can sometimes get it regardless, but noticing things like sarcasm (especially from someone new) may be missed. This also means he has considerable difficulty in giving the same types of cues as well, although he may still be sarcastic, it won’t necessarily be as obvious. In a way this resembles how a colorblind person might see two colors as being similar, to him the differences are so minute it’s extremely hard to tell unless he is familiar with the situation.
Additionally, due to the nature of the implants, they are threatened by EMP and ION technology. The cyberneticist sealed it well from the environment, but it could not be properly protected from EMP or ION weaponry which can still damage the system. Even worse, is that the right damage could cause Ardon pain or even endanger him further. Naturally best efforts were made to avoid him getting harmed if such weapons were used, but the danger remains.
Ardon’s situation did at least provide one or two advantages. The speed at which he can process numbers, and amount of them, has been greatly increased. This transfers well to a range of abilities, as well as increasing projectile estimations, flight, slicing or electronics work, and certain statistical thinking. The other advantage is more simple, he is optionally capable of wireless connection to many electronics. This is primarily used for information transfer between him and the device, but can be used to control it. To him, it’s like he’s talking to the machinery. It greatly helps in the case in which hacking is necessary, as he can more quickly recognize coding that needs to be altered to allow him access or allow him to tell it certain things. On the downside it means when doing this, he can’t actively be speaking to someone easily as it’d be like trying to carry on two conversations at once. Sometimes, if the coding is simple enough, this is alright. But that’s not necessarily easy.
OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
- Intent: A clearer explanation for Ardon’s cybernetics.
- Canon Link: N/A
- Permissions: M/A
- Primary Source: N/A
- Manufacturer: A relatively unknown cyberneticist
- Affiliation: Ardon
- Model: N/A
- Modularity: Unique
- Material: Synthskin, Titanium, cybernetic/droid parts.
- Classification: Partial Brain replacement implant
- Size: Extremely Small
- Weight: Extremely Light
- Resistances (Optional):
- Energy (And other Blaster type weapons): Average
- Kinetic: High
- Lightsabers: Low
- EMP: Low
- ION: Very low
- Environment: high
- Connectivity: The implant allows Ardon to wirelessly connect to most electronics allowing him the ability to receive or send information easily. This lets him control or hack certain types of technology more easily as well. There is a switch that allows him to turn it off completely to avoid issues.
- Allows him to use an (inferior) form of speech
- Can still learn new languages but not necessarily speak many of them
- Allows him to connect to other technologies wirelessly
- False skin around the implant site hides and protects it, with a metal plate behind that.
- Since the way information is transferred back and forth is a lot like a form of talking, incoming information doesn’t risk harming him. And he can mostly ignore it.
- Greater mathematical capabilities
- Powerful or multiple EMP’s can easily damage the system. One regular EMP damage will damage it, but likely will not cause immediate effects.
- ION weaponry can easily damage the system.
- Damage to the system can be painful and even dangerous
- Cannot produce normal speech as it was partially constructed from droid parts, instead results in a specific form of talking.
- Does not transfer video information as well when communicating to electronics
- Can also have issues recognizing certain verbal inflection cues. (Does not affect visual cues)
- Using the implant to control or transfer information with electronics is comparable to talking, this can make verbal communication with people difficult.
