- General behavior: Literally bred for battle, the Arkanian Warbreeds enjoy forming into hierarchical collectives which engage in warfare, treating their ability to fight as their primary commodity and skillset. When not serving as soldiers, they tend to be passionate about everything they do, and are often seen as bawdy and excessive in their behavior.
The Arkanian people are obsessed with tinkering with life, both for the improvement of self and the improvement of society. To this end, they created various offshoot species to serve roles in their society, with the genetics of these species tailored to accomplish various roles. These roles included servants, technicians, and construction personnel. A flirtation with a soldier offshoot, called the warbreed, ended poorly.
The Warbreeds were created to be generally larger, stronger, and healthier than the Arkanian base population. This was meant to make them more effective and enhance their survival in battle. The Warbreeds also share the Arkanian low-light vision and bright-light sensitivity. The Arkanian Warbreeds were not superhuman in their abilities, but tended to the upper range of humans, matched only by the best human athletes. As a consequence of the genetic tinkering with Warbreeds, they have lower than normal force sensitivity.
The Arkanians treated their offshoots poorly, often little better than slaves. One-thousand prototype warbreeds were placed into a special marine unit on an Arkanian defense vessel. Half were male, and half were female, with an intention to evaluate their comparative performance in battle and determine if there was a difference in performance that needed to be addressed.
Due to poor treatment, the Arkanian Warbreeds rebelled and took over the ship. A virus was released into the environmental systems of the captured craft- a failsafe against just such an occurrence. However, it was not entirely effective and approximately 200 of the 1,000 Warbreeds survived.
The survivors fled from Arkanian space and have made a living as soldiers and mercenaries ever since. They are driven by powerful passions, including the passion to breed, and have frequently preferred breeding among themselves to keep their ‘species’ alive. Arkanian Warbreeds in the galaxy today are the offspring of the original rebellious exiles.
The true Arkanians have proven frequently diabolical in their treatment of offshoot species, and so the exile population of Warbreeds has never felt comfortable returning home. Instead, they live as vagabonds among the stars, often taking service with armies and mercenary companies that desire capable combatants for their forces.
