Intent: To create a highly resilient and light weight material for the use in body armors and armored clothing.
Development Thread: (The main way people work for their toys, though most submissions don't require a development thread. Restricted items require specific development threads. Substantial development threads can help judges approve more powerful submissions. If in doubt, put 'If necessary,' and a judge may or may not ask you for one. Threads cited here must be at least 10 quality posts.)
Manufacturer:ZyTech
Model: Atherian MicroMesh
Affiliation:Open Market
Modularity:No
Production:Mass Produced
Material:Synthetic Materials, Carbon, Iron, Duralium, Lanthadine
Description: Atherian Micromesh was developed to create a new substance and an alternative to Armorweave that is stronger and lighter then Armorweave. MicroMesh is created by molecularity bonding synthetic material and one of the base materials in micro layers. These Micro-layers are then layered on top of each other in a consistent order of 2 Carbon bond, 1 Iron Bond, 1 Carbon Bond, 1 Duralium Bond 1 Lanthadine Bond. This sequences is repeated up to five thousand times leaving the final layer to be a Lanthadine/Duralium Carbon bonded layer.
The Finished Micromesh sheets are only half of a millimeter thick and then go into the second phase of the production phase. The sheets are coated with a bonding agent and then placed on one another with heavy pressure applied to ensure an appropriate layering and allow the bonding agent to fully seal the layers together. The end result is a sheet of material that is 2.75 millimeters thick, highly resistant material that is far more resilient then Armorweave but far more rigid.
While the layering can be reduced, every milimeter removed from the stock reduces its effectiveness by 7 percent.
Strengths:
Resilient: Artherian Micromesh is highly resilient to blaster fire, bladed and piercing weapons and is capable of taking a glancing blow from a lightsaber. A direct hit from a lightsaber will cause severe damage to the area struck, if not penetrate out right.
Lightweight: Artherian Micromesh's weight is considered negligable when compared to other forms of armoring and protection. This makes it suitable for the production of armored clothing and cloaks.
Weaknesses:
Rigid: The material is very rigid which cuts down on agility which makes the material better suited to someone with a heavy combat style.
Exposed: Due to the rigid nature of the material joints must be left unarmored or a secondary armoring must be used. External elbow and knee pads are recommended for close quarters combat.
