Serenno; my mother was from this planet, but I never had the opportunity to come here before. But that changed now, thanks to Ashla and the fact that I was now healthy. I prayed a lot to Ashla that this day would come. Actually, I would have been much happier if Tancred had been with me. I was staying in Kaeraran County at the Kala'myr Castle above Frostmere City. I was actually at home, even if I felt like a complete stranger in this place. For me, Aaven was home, even if I had strong roots here.

And unfortunately, this time I didn't come to visit my mother's homeworld, but to offer my help to visit a hospital in a small town where a mysterious disease has struck. Although I was not allowed out of my room for most of my life, I learned a lot. I also graduated early and was able to go to university, so now I was also studying at Aaven Medical University and because of my illness I had a lot of biological, molecular biological knowledge. Because of that, I was approached through the university to come and see if I could help.

Early in the morning, I travelled to the town of Arkgow, which was on the other side of the planet from my kinship's estates and territory. Actually, I wasn't going to the town exactly, but to the university campus next to it. It was in the middle of a large wooded area, with a huge area of land, lots of buildings and even a very modern hospital with a genetics and biology lab. The university and college was called the Nebula Vision Institute. The name promised so much and Ashla helped me to hope that I could help.

I met Professor Haldar at the hangar, she was the elderly doctor who contacted the University of Aaven to ask for help. I had gone through all the data on the way here, so there was nothing left to do but look at patients and samples. The doctor told me that they also keep many different viruses frozen here for testing and antibody development. What surprised me a little was that I saw a lot of armed men, security service men. I blushed and hoped they weren't here for me, because I was the heir to a planetary throne, much as I didn't want to be.

However, the doctor reassured me that they were not here for me, that my presence and identity were kept secret by the university, as my father had requested before he let me go. I privately said a thank you to Ashla for doing so, and the doctor told me that there is a seriously injured person here in the hospital who escaped from the Dark Empire and sought refuge here. This man was the one who was now under armed guard until it could be determined if he was trustworthy or not a danger to the university and the staff and students here.

In the meantime, while we were talking, we arrived at the serious patients' ward, where my patient was, as well as the one who had the university security service there. I'd heard a lot about the Dark Empire, my sister had been there, so I was hoping that she was really a refugee and not someone just trying to hide in a safe place.

Why did it have to be me...

Cesare's thoughts were swimming with confusion over exactly why it had to be him that led this mission. The claim was that his deep knowledge of the planet and people made him the obvious choice, and perhaps that was true... yet, Cesare's mind kept circling around to one escapable possibility...

This mission was a test.

He was still rather new to the Dark Side Elite, and considering his familial connections, there were still those within the ranks that didn't trust him. Not that they ever would... the Dark Side was a place filled to the brim with treachery and deceit, and the Elite were no different. He didn't exactly care to have their trust, but their approval, well... that was something he needed. The higher he climbed through the ranks, the closer he would get to the man responsible for his father's death. Until then, everything else was inconsequential.

In truth, the individual he was sent here to retrieve wasn't exactly an innocent soul, so there was little reason for Cesare to refuse the mission. Even if it came to death, he was a sychophant of the Dark Emperor. Even if he was a low-level scumbag, that was more than enough to help Cesare push any level of sympathy down into the depth of his being.

His shuttle landed just far enough away from the university to not get shot at by whatever paltry security may be present, but it was close enough to certainly get noticed. The door opened, leaving a clear pathway toward the front entrance the the building. Cesare stepped out, hand on the hilt of his lightsaber, ready to bring the deserter back...

Alive, or dead.

After putting on the appropriate attire, I followed the professor to the room where the patients were. I don't know how much of an expert I was on Sith poisons, it's true Tancred and I survived one, but I don't think it was thanks to us. We both suffered from the poison in different ways still. My brother has physical marks, which means that he has to cover not only his entire body but also his face if he doesn't want to be looked at strangely because of the injuries and disfigurements. Physically, I fared better, although I had to live my daily life in an isolated room until a few months ago.

I didn't feel that I had the knowledge of the Force to be able to neutralise something like that. I know they were mainly more interested in my genetic and medical knowledge now, but still... Ashla, I was afraid and worried that I wouldn't be able to do anything. At most, I could only ease their pain and suffering with my touch, which was also Ashla's gift and part of my healing. I had seen the medical records and pictures of the patient, but they were nowhere near what I had just seen.

There were bloody blisters on the patients, some of them already blackened as the infection had a necrotising effect. Their flesh was dead, as when flesh-eating bacteria devour healthy tissue. Ashla, that was horrible! I had read about similar illnesses before, but they were helped by antibiotics and other germs. Nothing here. The condition of the patients just got worse and worse. Some have even died from it. Fortunately it was limited to two dozen people, they were at some kind of event on a space station. The poison was probably airborne, because the food and drink tested negative.

The bad thing was that I couldn't talk to anyone because everyone had to be put in an induced coma because of the pain. After the tissues, the poison attacked the bones and started to break down and liquefy them, as well as the internal organs. As I watched the patients, I silently prayed to Ashla to help them, although I felt that there was nothing I could do. The best I could do was to isolate the poison that caused it, so that an antidote could be made to prevent this from happening again. I didn't think it would be possible to do anything in time. Why was Bogan so strong, and not Ashla in this case?

When we finished seeing the patients, I went to the front, out into the corridor, where I took off my medical helmet with shaking hands. The helmet fell to the floor beside me as I leaned against the wall and started to cry. I know life can be very terrible and many people suffer, but this? In Ashla's name, why do such terrible things happen? I could only pray that I would be able to help. Meanwhile, I heard footsteps as I looked up from the ward of the other, unknown injured, one of the guards came up to me to ask if I was okay.

I would have tried to tell you that I'll be fine, I just need some time to sort out the horror of what I've just seen. But the crying made me unable to speak for the moment. Please Ashla, help me!
