- Unit Size: Medium
- Unit Availability: Uncommon
- Unit Experience: Trained,
- Very highly trained soldiers, but not enough real world experience to be considered veterans
- Basic universal training
- Advanced close quarters training
- Combat engineer training
- Flight school training
- Equipment:
- Armoured suits similar in composition to storm trooper or clone trooper armour. Enclosed helmet and short term life support systems.
- Vibroblades
- Boarding shotguns
- SMG blasters
- Sonic grenades, calibrated to minimise damage to ship integrity while still proving highly lethal.
- Combat Function: Primarily they are used in ship to ship combat, repelling boarders and boarding enemy vessels. They are all given compulsory engineering training and are expected to be highly familiar with the ships that they are stationed on, to allow them to provide the best defence. This does mean the operate less efficiently when moved to an unfamiliar ship, so long term posts are usually preferred by command.
- They know their ships - the insistence that the Marines know the ships they are stationed on inside and out allows them to make best use of the Warren of corridors they may have to defend.
- Engineering training - compulsory engineering training allows them to make minor repairs or operate equipment independently to assist in emergency situations.
- Little real combat - for all their excellent training they have very little actual combat experience so far
- Maybe too well drilled? - while this is no doubt an advantage on the defensive, it makes them less effective while performing boarding actions themselves or otherwise operating in an unfamiliar environment. Particularly in aggressive boarding operations there has been reports that their tactics can be predictable.
Its a cruel galaxy and you never know who might come knocking on the door of your starship. Fleet admiral Isla Draellix working alongside other generals had this formation created while her warships were still in spacedock.
They are well trained, well equipped and well taken care of. It is doctrine that the soldiers morale and wellbeing will make them a better force? Some might say this makes them soft, but others feel it gives them a reason to die to preserve their way of life.
They are mostly taken from existing infantry divisions that are then specialised for naval combat, but due to the rapid expansion of the fleet in recent months, direct recruitment into the Marines is starting to happen.
