Asking Questions. This Episode: Large Factions

What are the factions' impact on this site's social landscape? Good or bad?

  • All major factions are just cliques driven by people stuck in group think.

  • Can't talk. Still need to keep working on dev threads and arg---negotiate with a judge.

What do y'all think about the current status quo on SWRP? Are we welcoming to new people beyond saying, "Hi, welcome! :D".

I say "we", but I'm really talking to each and every individual who cares and reads this.

What do you think about the behavior of factions in general? (I'm not looking for specifics. I do NOT want to see anyone start in on how "Mandos this" or 'Republic that")

I can't say that I had too much sitting on my mind when I came up with the idea to start a poll and discussion about this.

So, Factions and Social things...Converse.
(Also, I made votes public. I didn't know if this means that people get to see the vote tally or if it means that you get to see who voted for which option. If it really means the latter, I'm sorry.)

Yikes. I'm a Mando, so that was meant to be funny. Should have worded it more carefully. >.<

As for 7, that's just an observation I've held of many people over the years. I found it funny because a friend of mine plans on doing a VERY long dev thread and he asked us to wish him luck.

Edited the turkeys out of 6.

There are still positive and neutral options. If you have another positive you have in mind and would like added up there, so as to make you feel more comfortable about the balance, I'm open to suggestions. This is one of the reasons I wanted people to discuss. I know that I can't think up every possible option by myself.

I don't see an appropriate option in the poll for my point of view. Which incidentally is a mix of several of the options.

Sadly some of the most welcoming and genuinely helpful people in regards to factions have either left Chaos or have been hit with extended bouts of inactivity.

Then in some regards I can't help but see and feel that Faction RP has become like a second job here at Chaos. A virtual assembly line of what can you do for us.

IC Vengeance especially just wants to watch it all burn. ;) :p

"My Work + My Initiative + My Expectations = My Success"

Finding success can be hard. Especially when it comes to Factions. Often we don't even consider the formula we use to judge it by either. Above is just one of my personal formulas for judging my own success. And I have had a lot of success. Believe me.

However. Please notice a few things.

  1. It does not include my rep, my abilities, my disabilities, my schedule, or my popularity. This is on purpose.
  2. It does however include, my expectations.

Expectations. Man. These can be a big whamy in throwing off our math. Especially when it comes to judging our own personal success in a Faction environment. Often when we go about judging our own success or failure as a Faction Writer we look at our Work, (Our Threads,) and we look at our Initiative, (PMs, invites, socials, time spent, etc,) and we say: "Man. I'm just not getting the results I expect I should. Now, I'm frustrated."

Happens to everybody. Especially, new members.

Trouble is? Almost everybody's expectations are way off base. After all? There is no common sense guide to expectations, is there? And... As such, many of our own ideas about success are made with bad math. We've messed up our own formula.

[member="The Noble Scoundrel"] as you move forward in your participation here on Tef's website. Take a moment to consider your own formula for success; your work, your initiatives, and, (most importantly,) your expectations. Because I promise you. As you come to learn about, experiment with, and solidify new expectations? A focus on attitude. Not altitude. Your success with not only show itself. It will grow and flourish by leaps and bounds. Truthfully. This is not just a promise for you either. Every member on this site can experience the same transformation. Even new members. Even old ones too.

In closing. Remember Noble. You're already a big success in My Book. And that's one of the weirdest Factions of them all.

Some factions can most definitely be cliquey. Not that that's always a bad thing. I think it's just the natural result of people working together and developing close ties.

However, not being part of the in-crowd was what led me to eventually leave my former factions and help start a new one. Now I'm part of the First Order, and I think we're the best faction ever and I'm not afraid to say it. :)

My philosophy basically agrees exactly with what you just said.

Do what you wanna do.

And have fun doing it.

If you are not having fun doing it, stop doing it.

Glad you're having a great time w/ the First Order, I like how you guys roll.

Depends on the faction, some are really welcoming, some are stuck in there ways. Also it how much you as an individual are willing to interact with them, as remeber they are people too.

Also yeah I want to watch the map burn, it gives people headaches.
