Asmus was born to a Valgauthian father and a Mirialan mother in the Unknown Regions. After five years of what could be called cool-attention, his mother escaped the raiding group his father commanded.
Those five years were not by any measure terrible under his caregivers eye. The first two being the worst of them as resentment and anger rode the woman in her situation. Those around the two would pick up the slack while she was punished for her lack of attention and care.
Something that perhaps spurned her further on the child's existence.
At some point the feelings were either set aside, or fell away. Shown some modicum of care even for being what he was, she did present him with some attentions though never to the point of true affection. Learning the basics of three languages, as well as a stark moral contrast to those that had imprisoned her. Whispered words to sabotage the future heir to her captors throne. These small ideologies contrasted heavily with the violent and rather barbaric ideals that prevailed through the community surrounding the woman and her offspring.
These small differences would plague him throughout his later life.
After his mother's escape, Asmus was thrown to the wolves for the rest of his time with the raiders. Left to fend for himself, and fight for the food he needed. Able to competently pick up and wield a blaster by the age of eight, Asmus was taking part in his father's raiding by age nine.
Initially meant as a diversion, the young boy showed his true colors during one instance of merchant raiding when the defending crew attempted to hold him hostage and negotiate. With little consideration for his own offspring's well being, his father attacked the vessel regardless of their threats. Upon reaching the vessel's captain, he was surprised to find most of those attempting to keep Asmus in check disabled to some degree.
Broken limbs, teeth marks, and a few scorch marks from blasters showed the signs of his paternal lineage as a berserker in combat.
Fighting tooth and nail through his continued existence under his father, Asmus came into his own as a tried and tested ruthless underling. Even those beneath him were not safe from his wrath in combat. More than once using his own as shields or even disposing of them for perceived slights. On a number of occasions his father had a worry of his own son challenging his authority, and suffered his son's attitude little when openly challenged.
Twice Asmus challenged his father's plans, at least once earning himself a near fatal retaliation for the act. Left to his own devices for recovering, he survived the ordeal. And earned nothing from it save for a slow consuming hatred for his father.
Through his teen years, it became almost customary for his father to send him along on what most considered suicidal missions of raiding. Earning Asmus some level of admiration by those beneath his command for his perseverance and continued survival on these missions. During one such raid Asmus and his father were running a joint strike.
To their surprise, what awaited them was an ambush.
His father was the first to fall, his entire ship being boarded and silenced within the opening minutes of the raid. To his credit, Asmus avoided a similar fate with difficulties. The enemy that rose up to meet them was not something they'd encountered before. Well organized, working in tandem like a well oiled machine. Attempting to salvage the raid the young Asmus attempted to capture and hold what they believed to be a merchant vessel loaded with colony supplies.
In the hold he only found more of those armor clad warriors. The raiders around him slowly fell as they fought to escape the kill zone.
Believing himself at his final fight, Asmus threw everything into defeating those that had sprung a trap on them, and while not his intention, allowed some of those beneath his command to escape in the mayhem he began. A quick descent into what those that witnessed would call madness, Asmus began to use those armor clad warriors against each other in the confined spaces of the ship. Suffering growing wounds as the fight drug on, he would pull the armored bodies against him as he tried to advance against them making them into living barriers against the staggering firepower focused on him.
Whether impressed by the young boy's drive, or simply seeing an opportunity to gain a useful weapon, Asmus was knocked out rather than disposed of like the rest of his father's band.
Coming to, he found himself in the company of a splinter group of Mandalorians accompanied by other riff raff marauding the unknown regions. Far from home and doing little more than capitalizing on an opportunity to live a life of patrolling the unknown regions for credits and other goods. Jules Omaand took in Asmus as a youngling much to the chagrin of others in his company. Citing the combat abilities that had been displayed earlier, space was made among their numbers to accommodate the second senior warrior's wish.
From thirteen and on, Asmus was part of the Omaand company patrolling the unknown regions. Years he spent learning how to be civilized as best the Omaand's could manage. During this time a common nickname was formed around the boy, beginning as a means of aggravation.
Blue eyed bug.
A knock on his green skin and sharp eyes. Initially the phrase would stir up a fight, eventually becoming slightly shorter and more familiar. Blue Bug eventually stuck as a call sign while he was with them. Training and proper weapons practice became the normal day to day when the roving mercenaries weren't actively on the hunt for more pirates and troublemakers.
Even four years did not seem to be enough to shake Asmus of his black and white opinion of the galaxy. Orders were orders, and regardless of the implications needed to be followed. Survival had been ingrained so thoroughly into his being that there seemed little room for the subtle nuances of morality or social interactions beyond dark humor at times. The company made the best of their newest recruit, even gifting him with a proper body glove when they believed he had finally stopped growing.
Overshadowing most of those within his direct company, those outside of their group found it hard to believe he was only seventeen.
It was during an interaction with a local settlement, as the Omaand company often visited for information or trade, that another ambush occurred. Former associates of Asmus had been tracking the group, believing the heir was being held captive in a fruitless attempt to bring Asmus back into the raider fold. The Omaand company fell around him, and the semblance of civility the group had cultivated in the youth shattered when his mentor and role model Jules fell to the ground.
The fallout of this event stretched far enough to gain the notice of groups in the Outer Rim, garnering a patrol to visit the settlement where the ambush occurred.
The remains of the raiders, villagers, and wildlife painted a gruesome scene of grief filled violence. What didn't expire upon initial injury were left to do so upon the ground from what they could surmise. Further investigation led them to a grave sight, with Asmus silently sitting and staring across the mounds there. Uncertain as to the circumstances, they coaxed Asmus into shackles before taking him to the Outer Rim proper for processing and what they figured would be a small stretch of prison time in case anyone came to press charges.
A small request for the crew's effects to be brought along was granted, though stored for processing upon his release.
Being held in an Outer Rim prison for five years had shown the enforcers exactly what they had dredged up from the unknown regions. Cold and calculating, the mirialan giant was effective at keeping those around him from missteps. Earning himself a few more years on his time inside through aggression and threats, a private military contracting service took notice of the inmate when one of their own was released from the same facility.
Approaching the prison and working out a contract, they assumed full legal responsibility for Asmus Omaand's contract. Receiving a proper chain code and a documented legal identity, he was released to the PMC's custody.
Serving the remainder of his years for the paramilitary company, he received the gear of his fallen mentors upon release, eventually able to make a set of armor needed to fit his large frame. A way of remembering those that had given him more than any had ever done before. When asked if he had a preference for an operations name, he supplied them with the call sign Blue Bug.
The contractors went far and wide through the known galaxy, offering their services to those with enough credits to catch their attention. Initially given little more than a room and hot food, Asmus seemed unaffected by the lack of amenities. In eight years, Asmus went from little more than a grunt with a keen eye, to a capable operator with cautionary remarks on his records.
Released from his contract, he struck out on his own into the private military contractor and mercenary field of work.
