Once upon a time, there was a girl.
The girl was harmless. Her family was harmless. Although they lived under a terrifying, authoritarian government, nothing much happened to them. They lived their lives as best as they could, like any family does.
Then the wars came. Constant and endless. The Empire they lived under endured conflict after conflict after conflict. Their borders collapsed. The invaders drew ever inwards. Millions died.
Although that Empire deserved it, many of those made to fight for them didn't. Her father didn't deserve it. Her mother. Her brothers and sisters. Slaughtered in the battles, killed when the hordes of the Light roared through the systems. Butchered, along with everyone she ever knew. They dragged her from the ruins of her home, smiled at her and told her how lucky she was to have been liberated.
They took everything from her. They broke her with their kindness. Through their arrogant cries for justice, they had destroyed whatever life she had known.
In revenge, she created a new life. The girl became Astrea. And Astrea knew there were ways to make them pay. Powers that could be used. Energies that could be harnessed. Possibilities that could be exploited.
All she needed was time. Then she would show them.
