At Cursed Crossroads

Vereshin

The cautious strides of Vereshin's feet sliced through the mist like a knife. Following the cries of jubilant ravens loitering on stone walls, the distance between himself and the spaceport widened as he left behind the remnants of galactic technology. Esoteric whispers were left in it's wake, travelling from the castle on the hill and carrying superstition far into the minds of the villagers below. A breeze hurled down the road and threatened to knock off his hat, causing him to squint and shield his eyes from the dust.

With a gloved hand, the Sith sorcerer gripped the hat on his head and huddled beneath his coat and scarf. His hand remained firmly wrapped around the handle of his suitcase as he continued to walk up the winding road. The gates of Bast castle came into view as his journey ceased. Guards approached him on the bridge and rested their hands on the hilts of the vibroswords. Their irises were entirely white, telling Vereshin that they were affected by the curse which had overtaken Bast castle. Pausing in his stride, he raised one hand and uttered a short incantation.

Both of the guards froze like figures sculpted in stone. Vereshin's hand remained raised in a casting gesture as he walked nonchalantly past. Once he was well out of their sight, they began to move, having no recollection of ever seeing him. Nobody greeted him on the other side of the wall, which appeared entirely deserted. Stopping beneath an archway, he combed the area for any signs of the Force and only picked up on energy thick with the Dark Side. Footsteps approached from the shadows, revealing the figure of a woman with raven hair.

"Ah, Master Jairdain, it is a relief to see you." The ends of Vereshin's mouth parted in a smile as he walked into the entrance yard. He extended a hand for Jairdain to shake if she wished and rested his suitcase on the ground for the moment. "From what your sages tell me, the curse can only be broken by a user of the Dark Side." Lowering his voice to avoid attracting attention from any onlookers affected by the curse, Vereshin spoke with an inquisitive slide to his tone. "If that's the case, then I can most assuredly be of assistance." He nodded in affirmation and picked up his suitcase.

"We should go inside, it's not safe to talk out in the open, we risk making those affected all the more paranoid." Turning to Jair, Vereshin spoke quietly and followed her as she lead him inside. They entered the huge wooden doors, which were then locked by a servant girl. As he looked at her eyes, Vereshin squinted in thought as he noticed that she did not bare the physical signs of the curse. "Tell me, does the curse only affect those who can use the Force?" The dark mage asked as he cupped his chin in thought.
