DESCRIPTION |
The AT-FL9 was designed to provide the Galactic Alliance Defense Force with a suitable Anti-Infantry platform that was capable of being deployed in close quarters to clear out entrenched or fortified individuals. Its relatively compact size allows the weapon to be carried as either a primary armament or as a secondary backup without overencumbering the individual that is carrying the weapon alongside any additional armaments or equipment. The AT-FL9 excels in its given role, with additional internal components and modules providing the weapon with a higher damage output as these components assist in rapidly accelerating and amplifying the speed at which the flechette canisters are ejected from the barrel. However, this has also resulted in a greater recoil when the weapon is fired, demanding that the weapon be shouldered properly when fired to avoid potential injury to the operator, or a greater loss of accuracy if the weapon were to be fired from the hip. Likewise, the relatively shortened barrel of the weapon has resulted in a limited effective range of fire. This means that the weapon is much more suited for close quarters combat or shorter ranges such as being utilized in street to street or building to building situations. Each AT-FL9 is also equipped with a Nano-Counter which ensures that each flechette canister detonates at a minimal safe distance from the operator; this also ensures that the flechettes have amply time to expand into their mamimum spread and cover a greater area of effect. The primary drawback of the weapon, however, is its reliance on munitions and its limited clip size which requires the weapon to be reloaded after the sixth canister has been deployed. What the AT-FL9 can provide to the personnel of the Galactic Alliance Defense Force more than makes up for its shortcomings in its minimal range and higher recoil. The weapon, when deployed properly, can prove to be an efficient means to secure buildings and cause devastating losses to enemy personnel. Likewise, its size and weight are unlikely to cause additional encumbrance or fatigue to an individual, and its ease of use means that just about any individual can be easily trained to properly utilize this weapon. |
