DESCRIPTION |
The design of the AT-P5 was heavily inspired by the DC-17m Interchangeable Weapon System, producing a blaster carbine that could also be collapsed into a smaller handheld blaster pistol that is much more easily concealable than its full-sized state. Developed alongside the Phantom Assault Armor, the AT-P5 was produced to provide the Phantom Assault Squads with a standardized carbine that would prove to be much more effective in the tight confines experienced in boarding actions than an unwieldy full-sized blaster rifle. However, this focus resulted in a limited effective range thanks, largely in part, to its smaller size and the weaker blaster bolt that it produces compared to a standard blaster rifle. However, unlike the DC-17m, when the AT-P5 is broken down into its smaller variant, it is incapable of supporting additional attachments. Likewise, when utilized in its capacity, the already lessened capabilities are further diminished, resulting in a lower effective range of fire and a drop in its rate of fire. When utilized in its standard configuration, the AT-P5 comes equipped with a recoil-damping stock which, when combined with its already low recoil, makes it feel as though the weapon produces no recoil at all when fired allowing shoulders everywhere to relax. Furthermore, the inclusion of an Auto-Steady Gyrogimbal is quickly becoming the standard in weapons produced by Aether Technologies, with the component ensuring that the AT-P5 remains stable even when being fired or experiencing the usual movements when its operator is in motion. While the AT-P5 may be considered lacking to many, where it truly shines is its intended purpose and when deployed into the tight confines of ship-boarding combat. Its burst fire, though resulting in a lower overall rate of fire, ensures that a Phantom Squad Trooper can still effectively lay down covering fire and retain higher accuracy than if using a much more unwieldy full-sized blaster rifle in a similar capacity or tight confines. Likewise, its ability to be broken down into a small handheld blaster pistol also ensures that the individual utilizing the weapon can easily hide it if captured or caught. When the Phantom Assault Squads are inevitably seen and contact made with the enemy, they will do so with the AT-P5 by their side. |
