AT-SX Scorpion Class Walker
OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
- Intent: To create a never-before-seen (but also combat-balanced) walker that can be used in skirmishes, wars, and conflicts.
- Image Source: Artem Balybin, ArtStation
- Canon Link: Original Lore
- Permissions: This is all my idea, you can blame it on me.
- Primary Source: Original Lore
- Manufacturer: United Trade Authority
- Affiliation: Diarchy Faction
- Market Status: Closed Market
- Model: Mark 1
- Modularity: Definitely not modular.
- Production: Minor. (OOCly, I will let most people just use it, but please ask first.)
- Material: Unique alloy of platinum, obsidian, doonium, and plasteel. Turns the color of the Scorpion black.
- Classification: Personal Walker
- Role: Light Assault Walker / Industrial Mining Walker
- Size: Large.
- Weight: Light.
- Armaments: Average.
1x Laser Beam Cannon [Head]
3x Anti Air Mounted Turrets
1x Proton Mortar Volley [Tail]
2x Spike Drills [Talons]
* Can be converted to "Full Defense Mode", allowing use of the Bubble Shield and Deflector Shield for 2 turns.
** Can be converted to "Mining Mode", which allows the Scorpion Walker to burrow with spike drills for one turn and emerge the next turn.
- Defenses: Low. Its small size and mechanical reliance makes it vulnerable to relentless assaults from larger opponents, especially from kinetic and EMP damage.
1x Deflector Shields
1x Proton Bubble Shield Generator [Underbelly]
- Maneuverability Rating: Very High. Designed to scale difficult terrain and reach enemy walkers or minerals with the Spike Drills.
- Braking Power: Average. Hydraulic / kinetic brakes.
- Corner Speed: Average.
- Balance: Average.
- Speed Rating: Very High. The mechanical and physics balance of the six arms and tail allows the Scorpion Walker to reach a shockingly fast land speed, especially if it has been outfitted with nitrous boost technology - which has been done in certain unique models. (Not this one).
- Propulsion: Hexapedal Propulsion. It has six legs.
- Minimum Crew: 1.
- Optimal Crew: 2. Possibly the least amount of crew available for any walker.
- Passenger Capacity: Zero passenger capacity. Too many moving parts.
- Cargo Capacity: None. No cargo capacity. This is designed exclusively for combat and industrial purposes. Cargo would be carried on a separate vehicle e.g. Sandcrawler.
- Burrowing Technology: The Scorpion Walker's specialty is burrowing underneath enemy troops and terrain like sand worms.
- Depth Detection Sensors: The Scorpion Walker has depth perception detectors that help the operators locate ore, and also avoid obstacles such as lava and cave-ins. The AT-SX burrows the hole quickly and precisely, and then the mining team extracts the ore and crystals.
- Sophisticated Radar: All you can see out of the front of the Scorpion is a tiny, visor-shaped view of the battlefield. To compensate, the Scorpion Walker has a unique GPS system that is state-of-the-art. You won't lose track of the enemy - ever.
- 16-Monitor Visual Coverage: Alright, so you don't have the sight of an eagle, but you can at least have the navigational capacity of a bat. You get camera coverage of every angle of the Scorpion Walker because of pin-hole cameras near the main joints.
- Protonic Mortar Volley: Devastate the enemy from a distance before you close in with the lasers, turrets, and melee attacks.
- Laser Cannon Penetration: The forward-facing laser cannon is so powerful that it may penetrate the outer hulls of other personal walkers.
- Spike Drills / Drill Mode: The Scorpion Walker can contort itself into a bullet shape and burrow through the ground at high velocity. This creates a useful means to escape when the AT-SX is outclassed by larger or better-armed foes.
- Full Defense Mode: Similar to a Droideka, the Scorpion Walker can dig in against enemy troops and vehicles, quickly releasing energy as the operator fires a torrential stream of proton volleys, lasers, and 5.56 anti-air turret slugs from behind a personal bubble shield. This lasts for two turns, depletes all slugthrower ammo, and overheats all fuel cells. The attacker can only move or perform a melee attack on the following turn.
- Energy Deflection / Evasion: The AT-SX often smacks away minor energy shots like they are nothing. The AT-SX is quick and maneuverable, and heavy energy lasers can often be too slow to keep up. Troop blaster rifle shots can bounce right off of the heavy-duty alloy.
- WALKER TIPPIN'!!!: If a Scorpion Walker positions itself with its spike drills pointed towards the stomach of a four-legged walker, and it emerges from the earth with enough penetrative force, the Scorpion has a good chance of overturning that walker. However, if the enemy also has depth detection technology, they may see the AT-SX burrowing and take evasive action by stomping down into the earth.
- PinPoint Perception from Inside Vehicle - Instrumentation is Required The operator can only physically see a very small distance forward, and has to mostly rely on instrumentation and monitors to navigate complicated terrain in the Scorpion Walker.
- Vulnerable to Fire Attacks: If the Scorpion Walker should catch on fire, it will need to be evacuated imminently because fires pose a threat to the fuel system and the engine lubricant. Additionally, since the space is so small and so enclosed, smoke inhalation damage is quickly enabled by a firey attacker. If a fire isn't extinguished quickly, the Scorpion Walker will explode or the operator will go unconscious from smoke.
- Vulnerable to EMP: If the Scorpion gets hit in a certain weak area with an EMP blast, the entire Walker may be KO'd. Attackers familiar with Final Fantasy 7's first boss may know where to hit the Scorpion Walker for maximum effect.
- Actual Sand Worms, Burrowing Wildlife, Wildlife in General: On planets with actual sand worms and other burrowing wildlife, Scorpion Walker operators need to be careful that they don't disturb these precious creatures, or the beasts could smack down the Scorpion with extreme prejudice, leaving nothing but a mess for the salvage team to find.
- Vulnerable to Kinetic - Lightweight Chassis and Mechanical Moving Parts: The AT-SX won't take many hits because the hexapropulsion system is all linked together. If one part fails, it could ALL fail. The operator has to keep moving to be effective.
- Weak vs Other Scorpion Walkers: The personal bubble shield generator is located on the underbelly, and other Scorpion Walkers can penetrate this thin layer with its very own spike drill, which will either destroy the hull or cause a fire.
The manufacturers down at United Trade Authority noticed something important about the walkers: that four legged walkers...well, their industrial design kind of...sucks. Four-legged walkers can be knocked down so easily: they are strong, but they are unstable. Walkers don't walk, so much as just kinda stand still and deliver a flurry of lasers. What kind of a "walker" is that where you spend three-fourths of the battle standing still? Four legged walkers are built much like that one Imperial children's game called "Spire", where you balance plastic blocks on top of each other and try and make a spire. So, in the humble opinion of the UTA manufacturers and retailers alike, that's what the four-legged walker is: a big, sucky spire.
The engineers reasoned...why not add more legs to a walker? Then, it could actually, you know, walk somewhere.
Instantaneously, the AT-SX was born. That stands for the "All-Terrain Scorpion Crawler". Hexapedal propulsion! (That means six legs!).
Sun Tzu once said...something-something-conceal what your army is doing. The Scorpion Walker was designed as a tribute, in "walker form", to the ideals of the Diarchy: both the light side, and the dark side. On the light side, the Scorpion Walker is a useful utility vehicle and industrial mining walker, quickly and effectively traversing difficult terrain so that the precious ores within can be extracted. On the dark side, the Scorpion Walker becomes a light assault walker, its purpose being to stomp down every vehicle, person, and other walker it comes across.
How will you use it? The choice is yours.
