A Synopsis
AECO units, meaning Atmospheric Entry Covert Operators are a dedicated branch of the Sovereign navy which often operates hand-in-hand with the Office of Naval Intelligence. The division is itself derivative in membership from selected individuals within the Sovereign Marines and to a lesser degree the heavily propagandized Sovereign Army. AECOs exist to fulfill the role of dedicated special forces units capable of quickly and rapidly striking selected tactical targets as needed. AECO units are deployed orbitally, using specially designed drop-pods intended to covertly breach enemy defenses and land targets safely nearby designated objectives. AECO training is solidified around this doctrine, focusing on quick stealth movements and heavy assaults when said cover is broken. Units are not necessarily selected by way of displayed skill alone, and instead, certain traits are preferred for organization entry, such as: Unorthodox tactics, Little regard for self-preservation, Those able to rationalize otherwise ethically questionable actions, individuals who display high levels of physical endurance, among others.
Ten individuals to a squad including two fireteams, a designated marksman spotter team, an auxiliary rifleman, and an Ensign to act as squad commander, and finally, in most cases an assigned ONI handler to ensure operational stability and tactical awareness. It is, however, important to note, most AECOs in the field simply refer to each other using Army ranks instead of their official Navy ranks (Ex, calling Ensigns Sergeants).
The sole organizational difference between AECO and its parent organization exists in the fact that outside of a few individuals, the exact operational details and in limited aspects, the operational existence of the division is a closely guarded secret.
Finally, AECO units are generally expected to fulfill any specialized need that should appear within the military hierarchy on an ad-hoc basis.
