OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
There are few absolutes when it comes to supply and demand; what is plentiful somewhere may be scarce elsewhere and the demand can shift just as readily with societal changes, emptying mines, new technologies, and more. In short, it is difficult to know in advance what to ship where.
To compensate for this - and beat their competitors to the punch - the Globex Corporation spent vast sums acquiring Gree relics and studying your average molecular furnace. By combining this with the scraps of data they managed to acquired from the Worlds Within, Atomic Forges came to be. Larger and more expensive than molecular furnaces, they are rarely seen on vessels smaller than cruisers and almost never on frontier worlds.
Ecumenopolises are where they shine - by warehousing immense amounts of 'raw matter', Globex can adapt to match demand near-instantly.
- Intent: Convert matter into more useful matter.

- Atomic Forges partially convert physical matter into raw energy in order to reconfigure its subatomic makeup, turning anything into anything, exceptions may apply. Such devices are most commonly used to transmute locally plentiful chemical elements into locally scarce chemical elements, e.g., to fuel major construction projects. This is not the extent of their capabilities, however - sufficiently skilled Forge Technicians can synthesise strange isotopes and exotic matter, e.g., turning a warehouse of iron into a small but valuable cache of Mandalorian Iron.
- Malleable Matter: Atomic Forges can turn anything into anything, exceptions may apply. Chemical elements can be transmuted into others or into unusual materials like beskar, phrik, and guerrerite or even entirely new and decidedly unnatural configurations of physical matter.
- Unequal Matter: Like more readily turns to like; it is far easier to turn copper to zinc than hydrogen to plutonium. The synthesis of more exotic materials like phrik is energy inefficient (vastly more matter is put in than is put out) and must be supervised by highly-trained technicians.
