Intent: To provide the New Order Lords of the Fringe with a minor-production Light Star Destroyer based off of the plans of the Obscurity, recovered by Alicia Drey and given to Circe Savan
Development Thread: http://starwarsrp.net/topic/30544-did-someone-say-attrition/
Manufacturer: Subach-Innes Iron Crown/AEI | Defiance Consolidated Multipurpose Manufacturing
Model: Attrition-class Light Star Destroyer
Affiliation: Confederacy of Independent Systems Fringe Confederation, open market | Sith Empire
Modularity: Yes
Production: Minor
Material: Adamithium/Durasteel composite(hull), Duranium(frame)
Description: Attrition-class LSDs are Subach's attempt to provide the New Order with a Light Star Destroyer capable of adequately fulfilling specialty roles as requested by the Admiralty. Instead of developing a truly new design, however, Circe Savan chose to manufacture a design based off the Obscurity, a single-production Attrition-class Star Destroyer. While less produced than the Seinar-made competitor, the Attrition features special additions that its competitor does not have, lookbacks at older Imperial technology once thought to be failures, but now easy to acquire and adapt.

While the design is essentially the same as the earlier prototype vessel, some general improvements are in play. Instead of hypermatter reactors, the Attrition uses twin antimatter reactors, as well as a fusion reactor designed for use as a backup power source. Its hull is comprised of an Adamithium/Durasteel composite, while its frame, to ease production, is made of slightly less durable cast duranium hull sections. Due to the spare fusion reactor, the Attrition fits a backup hyperdrive entirely disconnected from the rest of the ship's power system and linked solely to the fusion reactor in the event that main power were to be damaged or disabled during a battle. More advanced automation from when the prototype was constructed slightly decreases the necessary crew count.

The armament of the Attrition is, however, modestly weaker than that of the prototype. Though there are more advanced weapons, such as mass drivers, energy torpedo launchers, and other powerful ordnance, the quantity of these weapons has noticeably decreased from the Obscurity. Instead of following the 'heavy gun' design, the Attrition focuses on a mixed armament, making it technically less capable against hostiles than comparable Sith ships. Hangar compliment is also less than the Obscurity, as a result of the new reactors and armor, not to mention slightly larger engines than usual. Its direct offensive capability is less than that of its predecessor.

Another downside is the cloaking technology. Still expensive, still difficult to produce, the Attrition utilizes a hibridium-based variant of the Annihilator-class cloaking device. Like the standard generator, it draws all the ship's power to the shields while providing a lack of detection. However, usage of hibridium means the ship is completely double-blind - it can't sense anything outside the "bubble" just like nothing can sense it. This is partially countered through use of the old Computerized Combat Predictor, in order to help the ship navigate through asteroid fields and the like through using the small supercomputer to determine what directions asteroids are coming from and where their fragments will come from. It in no way, however, assists the ship in combat with enemy ships, whether the ship is cloaked or uncloaked. The ship must decloak to adequately engage enemy ships. There is a two second delay between decloaking and the shields being raised, a delay enemy ships can exploit to easily damage the Light Star Destroyer. Attritions are only now coming into proper service with the New Order, and hopefully they will help fill the Light Star Destroyer niche.

However, it was not to be. With the New Order's collapse, the Attrition design had begun to be manufactured by the CIS, along with the Pluton-class battleship, as more advanced vessels for them to use.

I'm going to quote the guide.

  • All development threads must be completed prior to submission. This applies to any sub that requires a restricted material or as outlined above.
So this is gong in the archives til it's done.

  • Homing Missiles are sub-capital only. These must be changed.
  • A tertiary hyperdrive is really unnecessary, especially when the ship has a cloaking device. Space is a bit of a premium.
  • I'll have to talk with the other Starship Judges and Tech Judges on this Combat Predictor. It's named one thing, but its stated purpose to to help the ship navigate while cloaked. This has the potential for abuse.
  • Nitpick: Why is your Deflector Shield labeled "SD-Grade"? Is this implying it is a shield normally placed onto a full Star Destroyer sized vessel?
  • Assuming the above is accurate, this ship has four advanced systems. Three is the max it could have at minor production, so something is going to have to be downgraded.

Edits have been made. The Computerized Combat Predictor, similar to the canon one, is only capable of calculating the courses of asteroids due to their predetermined flight path through space. It is not capable of determining how fighters and whatnot would maneuver, so rather ineffective when the ship is cloaked. The ship would more than likely use the CCP before going into the asteroid field, to make sure that it had a series of waypoints to follow through the field.

Also, edits made, [member="Ayden Cater"].

You still haven't addressed why the deflector shield is referred to as "SD-grade". If it's a normal shield generator, then it should just be listed as Standard. By calling it "SD-grade", you are implicitly stating that it's of a strength normally found of a full-sized Star Destroyer, in which case it would be an advanced system.

I looked at the Wookie page for the CCP. It's explicitly mentioned as being made for use in combat. So either you're going to have to explicitly label in the description that it has zero effective use in combat, or it's going to count as an advanced system. Any system that effectively nullifies the weakness or flaw of another is effectively an advanced system.
