Auctions: what do you want to see?

Auctions used to be a whole lot more popular than they are now. I've always enjoyed the crap out of them, personally. I'm curious as to what people want to see from them. What would you want to see for sale that isn't normally offered these days? What formats would you want to see explored? If you're not interested in auctions, is there something that might make you interested?

[member="Akabane Jarvik"] - Well, the rights to basically-uninhabited planets and moons in the middle of nowhere get sold all the time in canon. Might be tricky and would certainly be contested, but that's a fun one. At a step down, might also sell factories/facilities - the right to list certain planets on your company submissions. Interesting.

[member="Oren Beorn"] - In no particular order

  • Custom Ships: I think [member="Popo"] did this recently, as has [member="Ayden Cater"] .... Some of us just suck at making ships, so that could be fun
  • Restricted Materials: This is selfish. I want songsteel... But I suck, suck, SUCK at rhyming.
  • No More Holocrons: Getting played out, and seeing people use it already as a way to circumvent any IC effort to learn way advanced skills
  • No More 'Dates': It was cute, but it is way over-played
  • "Custom" Product: If the user wins, the auctioneer works with them to design a certain production level of product, presumably for their faction or such.
  • Custom Starship Components: Places like Silk and Rekali have some AWESOME listings, but I think it could be cool to have your own personal navcomputer or weapon or hyperdrive, just 'cause

1. Restricted materials.
2. Unused companies being sold for others to use ( trying this in SSB )
3. Custom created items IOU. basically to get a tech item made
4. Estate lots.
5. Old schematics of tech left to collect dust.

The dates is a fun way to have ic interaction between characters that normally might not.
Custom orders are tricky as it generally relies on the offering party to fulfill it. I love Noah and he is a great guy but I won 5 custom weapons from him and he said he'd get on it a year and a half ago. This was when he was active so custom offers should have some sort of safety
I want to personally see more fun items, one thing that happened in a lot of auctions was people ganging up or threatening others who might bid on something they wanted... which kills activity for them.

Also pie, the auctions need more pie

I'd like to not do dates in weekly auctions, but realistically I have to do it. I have to auction 3 to 4 special items every week, and if someone doesn't trade me an item for another item I won't have enough to meet the quota that I need. So when I put in the date I can auction off 2 to 3 items which makes it a lot easier for me. So unless you want to donate the crap you don't need, dates for days

1. Construction projects. Tech projects...

What I mean is that IRL a company or government needs something done. In order to get the best price and bang for their buck, they let companies bid for the project. They each give their own RFI quote.

I want to see major factions and tier 5 and up companies doing this. Using auctions as a way for other companies to win "bids" on contracts.

Heck partner up with other companies to do a joint bid.

Like a reverse Marketplace thread? I've been seriously considering that. I dig it.
