OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION

PRODUCTION INFORMATION
  • Manufacturer: Aurora Industries
  • Affiliation: Aurora Industries, Closed-Market
  • Model: Aurora Crest Drive
  • Modularity: The material that feeds the molecular furnace can vary, and the fuel it produces can vary, but otherwise no
  • Production: Mass-Produced
  • Material:

SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Utilizing an increasingly common technology in the molecular furnace, Aurora scientists and engineers made modifications to the furnace that is the heart of the Crest Drive to produce a variety of fuel types to power the engine, no matter what material is fed into the receiver port.
  • Thermo-Converters were included into the design to both provide power to the modified molecular furnace and to keep the heat generated by the breakdown and recombination of molecules at safe levels for the engine and the crews of ships they are installed in.

STRENGTHS
  • Using a miniturized molecular furnace such as those on certain types of mining droids, the Crest Drive never has to worry about running out of the preferred fuel type of the customer.
  • With effiency being a cornerstone for Aurora engineers in their starship signs, the Crest Drive's internal components have been streamlined to accept any fuel type effortlessly and generate better thrust speeds.

WEAKNESSES
  • Because of the internal systems and the molecular furnace, maintenance for Crest Drives requires experts on the engine due to its complexity. If one breaks down or is damaged, it will require specially trained crew or being taken to an Aurora shipyard.
  • If the Crest Drive's molecular furnace is sabotaged, it can cause a chain reaction where the furnace consumes the engine itself and then explodes.

DESCRIPTION

As part of the next wave of Aurora Industries' modernization program, affectionally called Phase 2 by the engineers, the company decided to first take a look at the components being used in their products. Many of them, while reliable, were older designs or those purchased through corporate mergers and this no longer fit into the company's vision for the future. The current engine systems in particular being used by Aurora would be the first systems to be redesigned and upgraded, moving away from the CREVALD and 221 designs.

The new drive, called the Aurora Crest Drive, was envisioned with efficiency in mind, both in performance and in fuel consumption. To achieve this, Aurora engineers modified and miniturairzed a molecular furnance, programming it to accept any material fed into it and in turn creating whatever fuel isotopes the customer or ship wanted to use. The internal components of the engine were created to accept any fuel source, similar to H-K ion drives, and streamline the deliverance of energy and fuel as increased thrust power. The new engine was met with approval from Ary Jaxson and placed into production for the next wave of larger Aurora Industries ships, although work would need to be done for a new starfighter sublight engine still.
