The 'Stinger' is an unanmanned aerial vehicle - or, less formally, a drone - designed by Archangel for close attack and rapid strikes on select targets. Equipped with a powerful array of sensors, scanners and communications equipment, it can also perform well in a reconnaissance, espionage and target acquisition role. This allows it to strike targets, but also gather information that enhance precision and target selection, acting in a manner similar to that of a big probe droid. Moreover, it can harass enemies. Or whistleblowers. Whoever its handlers want to kill really. Archangel does not judge its clients' morals - or their lack thereof. The drone is automated, which frees up organic personnel and means flesh and blood beings do not need to put themselves in harm's way. The drone is typically controlled by a sophisticated droid brain that is able to track targets and adapt to changing circumstances. Alternately it can be controlled remotely by a trained operator.
The drone is compatible with the NeuroDigital Matrix, which can replace a droid brain. However, Archangel prefers to replace an remote organic operator with the matrix instead of inserting the latter into the Stinger. One method is to implant the matrix, which houses the consciousness of an organic, into a computer, enabling it to control the drone remotely from afar without putting itself in danger. This is more cost-effective, as it means the matrix is not at risk of being permanently lost if the drone is blown up. Of course, exceptions may be made, such as if the organic housed inside the device is a criminal miscreant working off a very serious debt to society.
The drone has less firepower in comparison to some models, such as the Nemesis Air Combat Drone. The range of its weapons is also more limited. However, its armaments are modular, allowing the drone's handlers to adapt it to a variety of situations. Moreover, it is very fast and agile, allowing it to evade attacks from more heavily armed, but less mobile foes. A short-range communications scrambler can allow the droid to suppress enemy communications within its vicinity, though advanced or exotic communicators may remain unaffected.
Its quiet engines and low profile enhance the Stinger's ability to evade detection and get into position for an attack or conversely retreat after it has been carried out. This particularly useful since while the armour and other protective features of the Stinger are decent, the drone can be downed by portable missile launchers and other heavy ordnance. Being a drone, it carries no troops and is not meant for slug fests.
The drone features extensive anti-slicing countermeasures to prevent it from being tampered with. Should these fail nonetheless, the self-destruction mechanism will kick in, triggering microcharges of baradium in order to destroy the drone and prevent it from falling into enemy hands. The radius of the detonation is not big, but still dangerous to individuals standing in close proximity to the machine. This mechanism can be triggered by the remote operator or, if it has been calibrated accordingly, the drone itself if it has been determined that a suicide attack is an efficient way to eliminate a target. The code for remote activation is long because droid.
