ADVANCED SYSTEMS
  • Missile Override Control: The Howling Harrier is capable of manually detonating its AASM missiles if the pilot so desires to either force the enemy along a certain vector or do at least some glancing damage if countermeasures are proving to be particularly problematic even if it cannot score a direct hit due to them.
  • Meiro Integrated Anti-Missile Deactivation System: Missile Deactivation Transmitters will have a harder time influencing the missiles of this craft.
STRENGTHS
  • A highly-armed, decently defended and maneuverable strikecraft capable of dealing with a whole range of enemy threats from fighters with its blaster cannons and AASM Missiles, smaller enemy capital ships and installations, with its Medium Proton Torpedoes, and heavy capital ships and installations with its Heavy Proton Torpedoes.
  • Decent all-around defenses, maneuverability, and speed.
WEAKNESSES
  • Jack of all trades, master of none, it does not do as well of a job as the rest of its brothers in its production group in specific tasks like taking out enemy capital ships, bomber interception, or dogfighting.
  • Like the rest of the XIII Limited Production run variants, is more expensive and sees relatively limited deployment to higher quality carrier groups or specific individuals.
DESCRIPTION

The last of the strikecraft produced by Voland Military Enterprises for its dedicated XIII Battlegroup forces, the Howling Harrier was designed after the Battle of Tython due to the need to have a strikecraft capable of rapidly adjusting to massive shifts in the tactical situation. It is ultimately a jack-of-all trades synthesis of the Screeching Owl Heavy Bomber and Strike Eagle fighter, not being as heavily armed as the first nor as maneuverable as the latter, but capable of performing both roles adequately enough if not with the same effectiveness. This allows for a strong degree of tactical flexibility when the strategic role of VME's carriers in a particular battle is mixed instead of dedicated-IE, needing to switch between anti-capital and anti-strikecraft capabilities on a dime. This is seen in the inclusion of the anti-strike AASM missiles from the Strike Eagle and the Heavy and Medium Proton Torpedoes from the Screeching Owl. Overall, it is a strong, heavily armed jack-of-all-trades strikecraft.

Of course, being designed for the higher quality military forces of the VME's XIII Battlegroup, it is ultimately more expensive to produce than the stock models and isn't to be found in large numbers outside of this particular force and company, the downgraded models of each available for that.
