- Four for the price of One - Quad barrel design allows the Scutum flak hun to unload rounds with a massive rate of fire
- Compensated - Recoil dampeners were added to reduce the amount of recoil of the weapon system
- Extra Sensors - Much like its predecessor, the system comes with its own limited sensor network, tied into the ship's sensors, to give it a wider detection radius for enemy missiles, torpedoes, and starfighters
- Hungry - Due to the advanced rate of fire and relying on physical shrapnel rounds, the weapon can run out of ammunition in an engagement
- Heat - Due to the advanced rate of fire, if caution is not taken when laying down continuous fire, the barrels will become too hot and start to warp
- Limited Danger - The weapon is designed to deal with missiles and starfighters. Anything bigger is not going to take any damage from these weapons
As yet another system designed as part of Aurora Industries' modernization program for its ships and ship weapons, the engineers at the company began designing the new AW-Fx01 "Scutum" Flak Gun to replace the old Splinters. Many of the design features of the Splinter were to be enhanced, but it was decided early on not to incorporate Aurora's Sianium and Siaber Crystal technologies into the system.
The weapon was redesigned to be sleeker, to be closer to a ship's hull than before, with the number of barrels increased to an even four. The increased barrel count allows the system to have an incredible rate of fire, supported by recoil dampeners installed through the weapon system to limit recoil as much as possible. Also, much like the Splinter, the Scutum is equipped with its own limited sensor system, tied into the ship's sensors, to give it a wider detection radius for enemy torpedos, missiles, and starfighters.
