V.E.R.O.N.I.C.A
Character
The first thing she felt was the cold metal floor below her. It was just the right temperature where you couldn't tell if it was just cold, or wet. It was extremely uncomfortable, especially when one took into account that she had no clothes on. Her entire brain was clawing for any information on where she was, digging through her memories for anything. Nothing was there except for one thing. It was like an order, but it was stronger than that she supposed. A mandate, something that needed to be done.
FIND UNIT H.A.R.D.L.I.N.E. TO COMPLETE PERSONALITY DATA
It was burned into her mind like a brand. It sat there in the back of her mind with every thought as if it were an integral part of her being. It was her prime directive.
She laboriously picked herself up off the floor, struggling with shaky limbs as the biomechanical limbs struggled to lift her up after so many hundreds of years. She felt the cable tugging at the nape of her neck, hooking her up to a computer system that had long since failed. She intuitively knew how to remove it, twisting the cable to the left and yanking with a bit of force.
The cable released with a snap and a hiss, causing her to gasp at the release of the umbilical. A small little door closed off the port for safe keeping as she collapsed onto her hands and knees, gasping for air as for the first time in 400 years, she had to provide her own energy to survive. The ancient reactor in her core began to come to live, slowly activating the aging coolant pumps. Terminal input flew across her vision at blazing speed and yet she was capable of understanding all of it.
Whoever she was, she was no longer human. She felt human, she was human at some point. No longer. She was something else entirely. Once she had collected herself, she looked around the room she was in. It was a rusty, abandoned room. The metal paneling was caked in rust, and there was no natural light to speak of. She could see clearly, despite being perfectly aware of the lack of light, though she was not perfectly aware how she was doing so. Whatever she was now, it was far beyond what she was before.
There was a terminal at the other end of the room from her, she supposed she should try and use it. She got onto her feet and managed to stumble her way over, there was an office chair with several belongings. Neatly folded clothes, a credit chit, an ID card, and a data disk. She picked up the data disk and slotted it into the terminal in front of her, when she did, it immediately came to life.
Displayed was a droid, a rather tall droid. She immediately recognized it as the droid she was looking for. He spoke in a deep voice which resonated throughout the room with a crackling energy which commanded authority.
"Welcome back to the world of the living. You probably have a vague understanding of who I am, and have been imbued with a strong desire to find me. Sadly, I cannot stick around for long, I have important matters to attend to, and I do not know where my travels will bring me. I have ensured that you will wake up within a year of the recording of this message, however, the reformatting process will take a long time and it will leave you without any of your memories. They may return in time but it is certainly no guarantee
"I have given you some items to get you off your feet. This is a complicated galaxy and without preparations you will be left by the wayside. It cares not for your inexperience. First, find D.E.L.T.A." An image of a orange haired girl flashed on screen.
"Then come with her to find me. It will be a challenge, but i'm certain you two together can figure it out"
The message abruptly cut off. That was the end. She was left alone in the darkness once again, with a purpose, and way behind schedule. She had a lot of work to do.
