It never hurts to lurk for a bit before jumping in head first. Kind of along the lines of what [member="JanesBatter"] before going cake crazy don't over extend yourself.
I personally like to stick to more social type threads for the first thread or two with a new character before getting into the heavier stuff. It can give you not only type to work out the kinks on the character but get an idea of the flow of Chaos.
Mostly importantly though do not hesitate to ask questions. We are a friendly enough bunch most of the time.
