  • Intent: Mentioned a fountain plaza in RP, wanted to make it a cool major landmark. | Helps flesh out Azar as a city, provides a good pace for starting RPs, meeting people, ect. Community space. TL;DR: Immersion and social area(NPCs too!)

SETTING INFORMATION
  • Structure Name: Azar Square
  • Classification: Plaza
  • Location: Azar, Aurum
  • Affiliation: Je'daii | Azar Municipal Government
  • Accessibility: It's a massive plaza that everyone in the city knows about, and many people frequent. One of the major landmarks of Azar, anyone deliberately going to Azar probably knows about it. The entire point is that it's accessible.
  • Security: City patrols, though it usually has a fair number of people in it, so shadyness would probably be reported to the Je'dai enforcers by civilians and then investigated. Well lit at night.
  • Description: Azar Square. A large open plaza, clearly built to encourage foot traffic throughout. A large flat surface, about 70 meters across at the shortest. The plaza's ground tiling was patterned with the area between equallt spaced concentric circles, every other one containing alternating black and white arcs. At the center of the plaza was a large fountain formed by several dozen spouts in a filled in circle formation. The spouts were flush with the surface of the water, which was about 30cm above ground level. The pool was contained by a half-meter tall granite structure, that functioned as a bench. At the four cardinal directions, shallow troughs carried water to the edge of the plaza, where they combined to form a circle that touched the boundaries of the square. The white segments of the outermost ring each contain a statue of one of the great figures of Azar and Aurum's history.

POINTS OF INTEREST
  1. Center Fountain: The main fountain in the plaza, and its main attraction. The fountain's base, which also is meant as a bench, is made of black granite, polished to an incredibly reflective shine. After the square's first opening, there were complaints that the base got too hot during the day, so the granite was partially hollowed out and heat sinks were installed, using the fountain for convenient water cooling. The square has wind sensors on the surrounding building, and uses these to adjust the fountain's output when strong gusts are coming, so that citizens do not get splashed. The fountain also had pretty lights that are controlled by a computer.
  2. Ground Tiling: Azar Plaza is one of the only places in Azar that uses Black marble in its architecture. Since most of the city is built with metal and white marble, this creates a striking contrast. Originally, the ground tiling's pattern was going to be the Je'daii's emblem, but after a surprisingly short discussion, the idea was discarded. The final design was chosen because this square was meant to be not for the Je'daii, but for all in Azar. Still, it remains similar to the Je'daii's emblem, acknowledging the massive role that they are playing in helping the citizens of Azar heal and rebuild. The black and white theme promotes the Je'daii ideal of balance, feeding into the square's use as a place for all.
  3. Four Troughs: Four troughs at the cardinal directions extend away from the fountain, all passing through one of the straight lines of white marble. They then form a circle that surrounds the largest circle of the fountain, and touches the boundaries of the square in four places. These four places are the square's main entrances: The Northern Entrance, The Southern Entrance, The Eastern Entrance, and The Western Entrance. These waterways are covered by a layer of special glass that is not only incredibly durable and scratch resistant, but also clear enough that it looks like the glass is not there. Under the water is a thin sheet of light emitting material, which is controlled by a computer, creating underlit water that looks astounding at night.
  4. Four Entrances: The Northern Entrance, The Southern Entrance, The Eastern Entrance, and The Western Entrance. Not marked by anything but the letter abbreviating the direction carved into the fountain, people seldom care what entrance they use. Nevertheless, they are still often referenced, frequently being used as meeting spots, references for direction, or as a general, separate area. Citizens of Azar often use these gates as mental reference points whenever they need to know what direction something is.
  5. Statues: Each of the black sectors in the outermost ring contain a statue of a figure from Azar or Aurum's past. These statues are made out of polished silvery metal, and their bases are black marble. The name of the person the statue is of, as well as any writing on the statues' bases is created by carving out the letters, then filling the void with molten metal, letting the metal harden, then polishing the face. This effectively means that the writing on the bases is colored silver, and flush with the surface. Summary: Silver statues and lettering, on white marble floor, black marble base. The statues are of Aurum's heroes. "Kära Hearthfire, High Queen of Aurum, along with the Saviours of Aurum: Jorus Merrill and Chloe Blakewhose, whose bases contained the names of those who had died during the Vong's assult on the planet. There were also statues dedicated to original Je'daii settler:s Qae Shena was the figurehead which sat atop, and he was flanked by a shadowed figure on either side, for the unknown Je'daii who settled and eventually fell.
