Basic Training (Combat Engineer Style)

(A small Foreword: Do to my limited schedule I would ask that you kindly only post 1-2 replies a day, thank you for your consideration)

"Yes, They told us to shoot at a tank" The captain said calmly to the assembled engineer squad behind him. He liked to conduct training for the 5th Himself, and where better to train the elite of the elite then on the battlefield? The men before him weren't young conscripts, they had seen training or battle in some form, they knew how to fight but, they did not know how to think, like a Combat Engineer would learn to. "It's not difficult really, you run up to it....and fire. Now if you're acting like a bog standard infantryman...You'll most likely die, its inevitable. However, fight like a combat engineer...Things may go differently. Heinrich, if you would bring up the Flammenwerfer.... " He said, with a grin beneath his gas mask clad fade. His seargant would step forth, presenting the Flammenwerfer 55 to the men. It produced a spray of magnesium infused promethium which would be ignited instantly, able to burn through nearly 200 mm of steel as if it were tissue paper. "Flame Them....They are hiding in big metal boxes....with this..." He walked offer, petting the Flammenwerfer affectionaly "We shall show them the error of their ways" He looked out over the edge of the trench complex again, the enemy assault group was getting quite close, it was now or never "Come on Engineers! We're holding up the whole karking war!" He shouted, waving a hand toward the approaching enemy "Charge!"

Bhaltair sat in the control tower overlooking the war exercise. He was the one pulling the strings and orchestrating the exercise. [member="Willreich Ritter"]'s men were positioned on the edge of a forest whilst open meadow was out before them. Holo projectors and umpire cameras dotted the trees to provide the realistic combat simulation men. The fog machine was turned on and a thick, heavy mist covered the meadow. The holoprojectors shown out from the forest and made it appear as though a platoon of rifle men were coming out of the fog. The tank(s) would be introduced later. First came the expendables to soften them up

At different intervals and randomly across the platoon line of holo soldiers, these fakes would run forward and take a shot or crouch down, move forward, aim and take their shot. The holo men worked together as a team, but were programmed to have a non-predictive script.

The initial skirmishes were minor, his men would fire at the approaching troopers, they would fire back, the heavily entrenched engineers had the better part of the conflict. After the initial wave the order to construct field defensive emplacements was given, and his men would set to, erecting a series of half a dozen field gunz, multipurpose, to counter both tanks and aircraft. It was a strategy the engineers oft used, flak guns were often as good against ground forces as they were against aircraft, especially the armor piercing variety this army employed. Once the second wave flooded in the men leading it , or rather holos, were torn apart by HEAT rounds in the field pieces, those that got within two hundread meters of the engieers would experience a whole new level of suprises, as mine after mine went off

"Too easy for them. Time to bring the pain."

Bhaltair cued the airstrike raid. Holo bombs would drop from the sky at procedurally generated (random) spots. Many of the trees were actually mechanical fakes and would collapse to the ground to remove much of the above ground cover. The last of the bombs still dropped as tanks rolled in from the present-once-more fog. After the staggered line of tanks came into view, shells would fly from their large barrels and pound the emplacements. Whilst the tanks grinded to a halt (to maintain maximum efficient range), more troopers would pour forth from between the tanks with viscious combat dogs leading the charge.
