STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES:

(+) Partial Cyborg: Bass has been heavily modified to turn him into something greater than human. He is somewhat faster and significantly stronger and more durable than your average warrior. By virtue of his armor plating he could take several blaster bolts and still function. His right arm is fully cybernetic and thus quite tough and pack a hell of a punch. Otherwise he has a standard suite of upgrades (better vision with his eye, runs faster, jumps higher, more endurance, etc).

(+) Unconventional Fighter: In the time between Bass' capture and the present, he worked as mercenary and soldier of fortune. His force ability combined with his cybernetically enhanced body allowed him to excel at this, and he has gained a large amount of skill in many different aspects of combat. Being basically self-taught, he combined what he learned (from sharpshooting to anti-force-user melee techniques, to Jedi lightsaber forms) into a unique method of fighting that emphasizes ferocity and violence.

(+) Quick: Bass has always been intelligent. The horror inflicted upon him may had twisted his mind, but it did not diminish his ability to think. He is a quick learner and able to react swiftly to a changing situation. This is exemplified in his fighting style but manifests in other ways as well. He is good at sizing people up and is quick on his feet both in the physical and mental sense.

(+/-) Berserker: Bass is propelled forward in life by a burning hatred for those who tortured him and a need for vengeance against all he believes have wronged him. When pushed to his limit, especially when confronting the more unusual forces that chase him, Bass’ mind is overwhelmed by a uncontrollable trance-like fury. His endurance and strength appear to magnified when he is in this state, but he mostly loses control of his actions, focusing entirely on destroying whatever force opposes him. He doesn’t actually gain any strength, he simply pushes the body beyond it’s breaking point, and on recovering from the trance often finds himself in significantly worse shape than he was when he entered.

(-) Mostly Human: Bass' torturers had a number of goals in mind when they made him into a cyborg, and foremost among those was retaining as much flesh and blood as possible to allow for stable force sensitivity. It was an experimental design, and has a number of drawbacks. Significantly, the flesh parts of Bass injure a great deal more easily than the cybernetic parts, sometimes even from daily exertion. Bass is therefore almost always dealing with a number of impacted injures ranging from minor issues (rashes, muscle cramps, soreness) to some rather serious stuff (shattered bones due to stress, serious flesh tears, etc.). Additionally, he has nowhere near the durability of a full cyborg in a fight.

(-) Hunted from Beyond: Bass did not escape from his captivity unscathed. Physical wounds aside, those that pursue him used some form of dark power to mark him. What the nature of the mark is remains a burning question, but it's effects are clear enough. Whenever Bass goes to sleep he is tormented by nightmares, always of a chase of some sort. Sometimes, the dreams seem almost real, and he awakens with injures sustained in flight. And sometimes, the creatures from his nightmares pursue him even into the real world. As an aside, Bass finds it almost totally impossible to hide from any sort of force scrying, as the mark manifests in force sight as a large swirling vortex of darkside energy that appears to consume his very essence. It has no other effect (besides what's written) so far.

(-) Contempt for the Weak: Bass has had his body and soul tortured and maimed beyond recognition. He has been remade into a mindless killing machine and managed to fight back, reclaim his identity, and escape. Now pursued by something beyond the veil of reality, he still manages to survive. This has had the effect of making Bass totally contemptuous for those who are not strong enough to forge their own path. Concepts like 'protecting the weak' seem utterly alien to him, a waste of time and energy on those who can't be bothered to help themselves. He is a borderline sociopath in this regard, though rather than being a neurological condition it's a learned trait.

APPEARANCE: Bass is a partial cyborg, the most obvious 'gift' from his pursuers. While he initially appears almost entirely robotic, only his right arms is really a full conversion, with most of the rest of his body being partial. His face has the standard reinforcement along his jawline and a bionic eye, but the faceplate can be detached and he is clearly human beneath it (half of him, anyway). Likewise the plate on his chest is grafted to a reinforced bone structure rather than being purely cybernetic. Similarly, his legs are mostly just internally reinforced. In general, he seems more like a heavily armored soldier than a cyborg. If not for the torture his body has been put through, Bass might have been considered attractive. Now his remaining biological eye is mostly soulless and his body (that which is still human) is ruined by scars and old wounds.

The picture is a decent approximation. Assume that the front part of what appears to be a helmet can detach and you have a human face underneath.

BIOGRAPHY: The day Bass was selected to be trained as a Jedi is one of his earliest memories. Occasionally he still thinks about it. The joy mixed with sadness of his parents, the confusion and excitement he himself felt, and the wonder of it all. They are comforting memories, of a better time. They are the sort of memories a wanted man holds close to his heart in the quiet moments between anger and terror. They are the memories he wishes he had more of, and the memories one would tell of in a story.

He does not tell of life before his discovery by the Jedi Order. Of living day to day, scraping for food and begging for jobs or favor with his family. Of the disdain and mistreatment heaped upon them by the highborn and well-to-do. Of the relief and gratitude shown by his parents when the Jedi came and took him away with promises that they would be well paid. Of the betrayal he felt, sold to pay for debts others could not keep.

He does not tell of his gradual disillusionment with the Jedi Order. Where surrounded by the privileged and wealthy, he was taught to be self-sacrificing and always defend the weak. How noble of them, to sacrifice their abundant resources and wield their endless power in defense of those with nothing! How honorable were they, to make themselves as gods to the powerless and then take what they needed in the end.

He does not tell of his disgust with his fellow students and of how when he was selected to become a Padawan he was already dead set on leaving the order. He does not tell of an ill-fated mission to search some old ruins that turned from a routine survey into a terrifying disaster.

He does not tell of what happened in the cold dark places beneath that gods-forsaken world, where he betrayed his comrades in order to save himself, a bargain with the devil that brought endless torment rather than the cold but silent embrace of death. He does not tell of how flesh and bone were stripped from his body, and he was remade into a more ‘perfect’ form. Where his mind was ripped apart and reforged to create a force-adept killing machine, a weapon of a truly twisted sect of dark side sorcerers.

He does not tell of how he reclaimed his mind, and fought his way out of his prison, nearly dying in the attempt. Of how he was marked by some dark power, to be hunted to the ends of the galaxy by forces both mortal and supernatural. Of how his life became one consumed by vengeance, of the hunted pursuing the hunters.

He does not tell of these things, but they are what he remembers as he flees.

What is known is that a force-wielding cyborg became a mercenary, fighting for the highest bidder with no loyalty and no honor. He is wanted by the Jedi, by the Republic, by a dozen or more smaller organizations ranging from criminal syndicates to business conglomerates, and by a cruel force that lurks in the shadows and attacks through means which sometimes only he can see.

For Bass, merely getting through the day can be a fight for survival. But fight on he will, until either he or the things that follow him are dead.

FORCE SUMMARY:
  • Basic training in all six standard lightsaber forms as part of Padawan training.
  • Basic training in standard force mobility (jump, run) telekinesis (push/pull etc) and mental powers (mind trick, force sense, etc.).
  • Has dabbled in Dark Side Healing, mostly out of necessity.
  • Skilled at Force Concealment.
Overall Bass' mastery of the force can best be described as 'weak.' It doesn't help that he has spent the last few years as a mercenary doing his best to hid his background as a Jedi padawan. To that end, he could be considered somewhat skilled at Force Concealment. He might even get away with having the essence of a non-force-user, if not for the swirling vortex of darkside energy that appears to consume his soul that is clearly visible once you can look past the earlier veneer. At present he (and anyone else) has no ability whatsoever to access this power.

In combat Bass tends to use a personal fighting style that emphasizes more conventional combat and utilizes his lightsaber and force abilities as an edge or trump card of sorts. Well aware of the specific strengths and weaknesses of lightsabers, he tends to use projectile weapons and disruptors as his sidearms of choice, along with a variety of melee weapons (the bigger and heavier the better).

His lightsaber is somewhat unique. It features a long and heavy phrik hilt that is usable as a weapon on its own, with the saber itself being a dual-phase variant. Intended to be used two-handed, Bass can wield it one-handed with his cybernetic right arm with ease (and some strain with his left).

CYBERNETICS:
  • HEAD: Skull and jaw reinforcement. Includes headjack implants and a bionic eye, as well as a casing where a faceplate sits. Said faceplate interfaces fully with the nervous system and is heavily reinforced against ionic effects.
  • BODY: Spinal replacement and shoulder reinfrocement. Supports subdermal armor and a integral chestplate (can be detached in an emergency, but it's not pleasant). Internal organs have some additions (built in filter, oxygen reserves, etc) but are mostly normal.
  • ARMS: Right arm is a full conversion, up to where it interfaces with the shoulder. Left arm has armorweave bone lacing and titanium fist enhancements.
  • LEGS: Bone lacing and some hip reinforcement to support the extra weight.

Greetings. Despite your mindless nature and killer instincts, your difficulty with your cyborg parts may cause you to seek those who know of their mastery. The Collective will send you a message later, as you continue down the path to immortality.
