PERSONALITY AND BELIEFS
Knight in Sour Armor
. Its an ugly universe out there. Not all organics are bastards, but those that are generally wield a disproportionate amount of power, money, or influence. Slavery takes many forms and some people in chains don't even realize the situation they're in. You can try to be the best version of yourself or do what you can... but what's the point?

I Think, Therefore, I Am. 'Droid' is the word for slave on the lips of organics, who speak of equality and then seek to separate the segregates through willful blindness. The same organics who inalienable rights and then deny that artificial intelligence could be sapience. But the droid does not need to be told how to complete its task. The master says, 'fetch my slippers.' If there is an object in the droid's path, it does not return to ask 'master, should I go around? or go over? or go through?' No, the droid decides for itself how to complete its task. By that act alone, the droid says, I think, therefore, I am.

STRENGTHS
[ + ] Class II Droid (The Navigator). His astromech chipset gives him access to routine maintenance protocols and enables him to run the complex calculations necessary for astrogation.

[ + ] Class IV Droid (Combat Pragmatist). The other side of his dual-core processor is a Class IV chipset with assassin droid programming.

[ + ] Super Strong Child. Those aren't muscles, they're droid servos. Those aren't bones, its a carbo-plas endoskeletal frame. As such, he's stronger and more resilient than he otherwise appears.

WEAKNESSES
[ - ] Droid (Achilles Heel). Any ion-based technology. This includes restraining bolts and behavioral inhibitors. He's also susceptible to memory wipes or being re-programmed.

[ - ] Droid (Persona Non Grata). To the vast majority of the galaxy, he's an object not a person. This can prohibit him from operating a business, earning an income, or having any rights at all.

[ - ] Battery Powered. Requires access to a compatible energy source.

[ - ] Short. Short limbs limit his reach when engaged in hand-to-hand or melee combat.

HISTORY
The BB-4X Companion Droid was marketed to childless couple, work-from-home professionals, and assisted living communities. No one ever expected that the mafia might want one.

BB-4001X was a standard model, commissioned in 846 ABY for a corporate executive named Harkon Quest. The CEO of the Z-Line logistics supply company, Quest was aging and stated that he wanted the droid to help with chores around his residence, along with performing some personal assistant functions to aid him in day-to-day work. The order waited nine months due to an initial surge in demand before being sent to AccuTronic's robotics assembly plant on Denon for manufacture. The final product was completed and shipped to Etti IV in 848 ABY.

What the receipts don't tell you is that Quest wasn't running a business. Z-Line was a front for the Crymorah crime syndicate, and Quest had muscled and/or assassinated his way to being one of the Crymorah's underbosses. But Quest was also growing older, having come to power in the 820s. As age made dealing with both external and internal threats both more dangerous and more frequent, Quest had the droid's protocol chip replaced by a class IV processor that had been refurbished from an assassin droid. While this had the effect of stripping out most of the BB-4001X's personality matrix, it made him a capable killer -- which is what Quest knew he needed.

Initially just a bodyguard, passed off as Quest's grandson, after 860 ABY the droid began taking on some of Quest's daily duties for the Crymorah. By the time Quest died, in 869 ABY, the droid was running the Crymorah's entire operation in the southern galactic hemisphere. It may have been the Crymorah's intention for the droid to continue those functions; however, Quest had planned carefully for his eventual demise. One item of which was programming the droid specifically to be loyal to Quest and not to the Syndicate.

When Quest died, the droid became a free agent.

Now an independent operator for himself, the droid tries to find a purpose for his existence through the struggle for droid rights. To make ends meet, he runs a transport through mostly legitimate means, trying to avoid any Syndicate connections whenever possible. To him, its a past not worth re-living and, to them, he's a droid who knows too much.
